I was back again to get the results of my SI joint pain pelvic Xrays, and to have a cortisone shot in right hip Bersa for hip pain while walking. Dr Sima is the best! He is right to the point and tells you the facts, but in a friendly way. He made me a referral to a pain specialist for the SI joint pain as there is nothing he can do for that. My Xrays show arthritis there. I had a cortisone shot in the hip which was done quickly and nearly pain free. I have had 3 surgeries with Dr. Sima, carpal tunnel, and both shoulders. Following your comment to mine: So you knew I only had a few meds from ER to last me until Mon yet failed to schedule me sooner than Thurs. I mentioned to your assistant I was worried that you would not prescribe to me without seeing me and her words were, "Don't worry -- I'll talk to Dr Sima." At the end of the day on Mon your office called back to tell me to get meds elsewhere, knowing it was too late to schedule with another doctor. After 30 years and several surgeries together of my kids and myself you knew I never abuse drugs (I worked as a drug counselor in fact with my MS degree) -- a broken kneecap obviously calls for initial pain medication. And what does all this have to do with canceling my appt with your PA wife on Thurs and saying I had to find another doctor as you would no longer treat me? No explanation! So amazing, you can check in to his Posada Ambulatory Surgery Center, place yourself in the care of friendly, skilled staff, wake up , walk out, climb into your truck and go home! My hip had been so painful I had been using a walker for months. He has also replaced my left hip and repaired my broken wrist. Both procedures were a few years ago. Totally successful. My first experience at the Posada Surgery. My wrist required surgery and some hardware. As soon as the cast was off, hip surgery was scheduled. My son was getting married in June and I needed to be able dance at his wedding! Everyone was so helpful! Paperwork, lab work, etc., was like everyone was in overdrive! Dr. Sima performed a rather complicated hip replacement surgery on me and I was amazed. Literally walked to my awaiting car 5 hours post surgery with aid of a walker. Four days post operation rode five semi rolling miles on my road bike with little discomfort and did another 12 the following day The surgery center he works out of next to his office is also fantastic and all his and the surgery staff are first rate across the board. First appt this doc left me sitting for over an hour in his exam room. No one came in to say he's running late. My time is just as valuable as yours, doc. They called and apologized and I though great- will give another try. Went in discussed the appropriate Treatment plan. Told him both knees. He called in medication for only one and when I asked to have the other one added, office said I needed to come in for another appt. I'm sorry- what!? I received my second knee replacement surgery from Dr. Sima on January 27 of this year in the outpatient office. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Sima and staff. The whole process was very well organized, planned and executed. I was given a pre surgery regimen that I believe directly benefited and Expedited my healing process. Dr. Sima has been fixing all my orthopedic injuries for years, most recently, I underwent Knee surgery, and everything went great! It was an outpatient procedure, and I was walking within a couple of hours after coming out of surgery. He sent me home with this awesome "Game Ready GRPro Cold and Compression Therapy Control Unit", which was a great tool for healing and drug-free pain relief. They have x-ray facilities right there in the office, so you don't have to trapse all over town getting them. That's pretty cool. His staff are very professional, and efficient. After waiting more than a month to see Dr Sima I went to my appointment yesterday. I was required to print out a 7 page document before going in, in addition I had an interview with an assistant explaining my reason for the visit. But instead of the doctor himself I had another assistant named Jennifer I believe sent in to replace him. She hadn't looked at my paperwork or talked to the previous assistant about why I was there. I think I maybe have a shin split and it's painful but we'll never find out. She was focusing on trying to sell me another knee replacement or maybe stem cell injections or fat cell injections, only trying to run up huge medical bills I guess.. I kept trying to get her to discuss treatment for the shin pain, she told me I should see my regular doctor! Then she said she'd offered me 12 different suggestions that I refused, and walked out! Just to be clear I realize I have arthritis both knees but I was not seeking advice about that since I had a failed knee surgery and would never consider that again. read more

From the moment I walked through the doors of Dr. Sima's office I was impressed. His staff works hard, very professional, and efficient. Everyone's so helpful and polite. So, with such a well run office I was not surprised meeting Dr. Sima. He's friendly, approachable, and quite a good photographer! He was thorough in his findings. In fact he found an unrelated health issue that demanded immediate attention by my primary. His concern for a stranger was heartwarming and sincere. I've had multiple surgeries by Dr. Sima -- he's the greatest. Most recently, I had thumb CMC arthroplasty due to severe osteoarthritis in my CMC joint. My thumb was practically non-functional and caused me a lot of pain in almost all activities involving my hands. As a quilter, I was facing giving up on my favorite pastime. The surgery was about a year ago and it was a pretty long recovery. But today, I have no pain at all, I can do everything I used to do before the arthritis and it is such a relief. Hooray! I just visited Dr. Sima for my last post op visit after six weeks of being confined to a wheelchair or my bed! I am so overjoyed! For the last five years I have had to wear pads, braces, special inserts, PAIN, and as of now I am shocked and pleased to have a normal foot again, thanks to Dr. Sima. Dr. Sima was able to shorten my toes after previous doctors said I would never walk again, with very little pain. Dr. Sima is an intelligent, caring and loving doctor that made me feel right at home, and I have seen many doctors- they all told me to stop walking! Dr. Sima did my left hip replacement in July, 2018, and it went amazingly well. I had it done outpatient, and was walking within a couple of hours after coming out of surgery. He did my right hip replacement in March, 2019, and it went even better! He is quite a good surgeon, and his office is efficient. The only time I really had to wait was when I had bumped the incision and it opened and bled on a Sunday. When I was at physical therapy the next day (the building next door to Dr. Sima's), I was advised to go there to get it checked. So I walked in with no appointment, and had to wait a bit. If you need total hip replacement, this is the ONLY place you need to go. Dr. Sima is using the anterior approach which makes recovery amazingly quick! There is no damage to the muscles and very few, if any, physical restrictions after the surgery. There is hardly any pain involved. You will be walking within 24 hours of your surgery and going home within a couple of days! By 2 to 3 weeks after surgery, you will forget you even had it done! My leg was actually shortened from walking on it so long, 2 1/2 years while I was trying to find a better approach) and that was able to be totally corrected!! No more limping! No more pain! My surgery was done at Twin Cities Hospital in Templeton, CA, a hospital that earned a "Blue Distinction" from Blue Cross and Blue Shield as a Center of Excellence for Hip and Knee Replacement Surgery. Twin Cities Hospital is the only hospital in my local area that uses the Hana Table which allows for better manipulation, smaller incision and more precise placement of socket and ball joint. read more

Dr. Sima has replaced both my knees, done surgery on my shoulder, did joint reconstruction on both thumbs and just removed a troublesome bunion from my left foot! I've gone to him over and over during the last 14 years and I've never ever been disappointed in his skill as a surgeon, or his obvious concern for his patients. But what I really liked was when he was giving me a shot IN MY KNEE. The needle was deep IN MY KNEE and my phone rang. Since my phone was not in my pocket, the ring was LOUD. After waiting over an hour, I was finally called back only to be told my appointment wasn't with the dr, but the pa (not what I was told when I made the appointment). I believe Dr. Sima might be a good doctor - at least, based on some of the reviews I've read. But when I made an appointment to discuss a serious problem with my ankle, I found the Doctor and his staff to be very difficult to communicate with. I actually had TWO appointments with doctor Sima and I don't think my total face-time with him was more than five minutes, total. Just long enough for him to inform me that I need surgery, and when he had an opening for me. After the second visit, I left feeling like I still had a LOT of questions, so I called his office. After three calls, I finally got someone who would at least speak with me but when I asked if I could pose a few questions about my operation to the doctor, the answer was essentially "no". So, I asked about speaking with an assistant who could answer questions. Again - "no". Well, what if I emailed some questions.... "we don't do that". OK.... can I make a third appointment... I'll pay for another appointment if I can use the time to ask a few important questions about this procedure Dr. Sima wants to perform. I was given an appointment date two weeks after the surgery date! Thankfully, I found another doctor that specializes in the type of procedure I need, and she actually uses her words to explain things and answer questions. read more

The staff are less than professional. I was on time for my appt. But was passed up for the person who's appt was later than mine, but she so happened to come in just in front of me. I was unusually qustioned abouty insurance, Medicare, and it was openly discussed therefore everyone in the room could hear, making me very embarrassed. EXCELLENCE IS IN OUR OWN BACK YARD. No more need to travel hundreds of miles to have a state of the art "anterior" hip replacement. I have just had my right hip replaced by Dr. Sima and I'd like to share some of my thoughts. For those of you who need a new hip and are wondering who should I have do it, let me give you a little insight based on my experience. I wholeheartedly believe that Dr. Sima is by far the best and most knowledgeable surgeon on the Central Coast to do the anterior approach to hip replacement. He was trained in the anterior approach to hip replacement by Dr. Joel Matta, the American Godfather of the procedure, and the Dr. who did my left hip years ago. Dr. Sima's hip replacement was every bit as good as Dr. Matta, his teacher. A little background: About 5 years ago I needed a left hip replacement. I was almost set to have a replacement done by a well know orthopedic surgeon in SLO who did the old fashioned Posterior approach. A friend called me from Los Angeles who told me his x wife just flew into LA for a hip replacement by a wonderful surgeon who was doing a revolutionary new procedure called an "anterior" hip replacement. She was operated on, walking the next day, and flew back to the Carolinas two days after her surgery with no limitations on movement and generally pain free except for the incision which was tender. I went back to this famous SLO orthopedic surgeon who told me it was voodoo surgery and he would do it the old way "posterior". It would take months of limited movement to avoid dislocating the hip. Well, I decided to go to Santa Monica and meet Dr. Joel Matta, the recommended surgeon who was performing miracles with hip replacement by the "anterior" method. Dr. Matta explained why it was so much better. One of the keys was this table which he helped invent to do this procedure. In fact, he could do both hips at the same time with great recovery. The reason no one was doing it on the Central Coast at the time was they didn't have the knowledge or this very expensive table to do the procedure. Dr. Matta replaced my left hip and I was walking and had my wife drive me home to SLO two days after the replacement. Sure, it took some time for the swelling to go down and the incision to heal, but the pain was gone. It was worth going down to L.A. for this new procedure. There is no need to travel 100's of miles to get this new anterior approach. Dr. Sima and Twin Cities have the new equipment and knowledge to do the same "anterior" replacement right here in our own back yard, Templeton. It was every bit as good as Dr. Matta, and in some ways better. Dr. Sima's follow-up, physical therapy regimen and surgical finesse are excellent. I wholeheartedly recommend going to him. Your typical arrogant San Luis Obispo ortho surgeon. Been out on work comp for almost a year with a tear in my labrum. Surgery consult was finally approved referral was sent off and I thought everything was good I was going to get my shoulder fixed and get to finally go back to work! Nope, Dr. Sima declined to do the surgery that is already preauthorized by work comp which he is in their medical provider network. When I inquired about why he declined there was absolutely no reasoning behind it at all! They just told me it's his practice and he chose to decline with no reason. When I asked to inquire about the reason, she simply stated I dont question the Dr. As a medical professional myself, I know this is the worst practice that a healthcare provider can do is not question the Dr. Dr's are humans too and need to be questioned as well as be able to explain themselves! With being left with no information I'm inclined to think that he was not capable enough to perform the surgery and it was out of his scope of practice! I would enjoy seeing them prove me wrong and actually respond with a legitimate answer as to why he declined to do the surgery that I have tried every other treatment option for. Like I said I guess he is just another incompetent arrogant ortho surgeon in SLO county who thinks they are God's gift to the scalpel! What about you hippocratic oath you took as a M.D.?
