This place is absolutely terrific!!... I've had several bad experiences at the dentist that have left me terrified of going to the dentist... I mean utterly terrified-- like teeth chattering, tensed up, sick to my stomach terrified !! They treat people really well, and the dentist is super nice, professional and understanding. He really understands the patients and works with them well-- and caters to them. He is really awesome!! Like I can leave with peace of mind, knowing that it was a piece of cake-- and just an overall good experience. Also, the office staff is GREAT, cuz we all know when we go to the dentist or doctor we deal more with the office staff than the actual doctor. The atmosphere is GREAT!!... They said they take my insurance(every other dentist in the LA does). I went for digital ex rays and a cleaning. I paid my $25 copayment, then two weeks later a bill for $1000 arrived at my house. I called to question and they said my regular insurance doesn't cover premier treatment. WHAT? The dentist didn't even speak English. How is that premier? Every other dentist works with my full coverage insurance. It was a horrible experience. I would never go back there, and I hope you keep looking for a better dentist. read more

I sent my 20 yr. old son to Pasadena Smiles last Friday while he was in town from college.. I was very leery since I purchased an on-line offer for an exceptional price but to my surprise, my son and I were Very happy with his treatment there. This is a very nice office with a professional staff. The front desk girl was very generous to allow my Late son to keep his appointment even though I'm sure his tardiness disrupted their schedule. Dr. K was very friendly, professional and thorough. They even filed down a very bothersome front tooth for him that was longer than the other at No-Charge. That's what I call customer service! Not only will my son return to this office in 6 months for his regular visit, but I may become their patient as well. read more

Let me start by saying this review is long over due! I'm so glad a found this dental office. I had previous work done at another dental office in El Monte and it was just a horrible experience I taught the dental work I got done was good but it wasn't. Thanks to Dr. Koutchek she found all the bad work this other place had done to my teeth, too make a long story short, I had to get all the work that this other dental office did re-done properly. 5 months ago my boyfriend had a wisdom tooth that began to rott it became so bad he couldn't eat nor could he work comfortably . we reached out to almost every densit in our area looking for affordable 24 hour services. When we called the doctor it was around midnight, the doctor answered the phone personally and wrote my boyfriend a prescription for antibiotics and scheduled him first thing the following afternoon. The doctor was very helpful and removed the tooth quickly and painless, we really appreciate the help because this was something that was bothering my boyfriend for months, but affordable dentistry work is hard to come by...This was a blessing ! Dr. Spero is great! I has in really bad pain yesterday night and was looking online to see if any dentists are open weekends. I gave him a call and told me he can see me the very next day (today) first thing in the morning. Took care of my root canal and it was a totally painless procedure! Do not come to this place if you have insurance. Their dentist is about average. However, the service is rude. They have me wait for one hour although I was on time. Second of all, most dental offices that I went have the capability to print out the Xray but obviously it took them four days to print. On the day I picked up the Xray which I was told , it took them one hour to figure out how to use the printer to print the X-Ray. Good luck for retaining the business read more

PROS: I got their Exam, X-ray and teeth cleaning deal on amazon. I enjoyed how much education I received. They educated me about plaque build-up under my gums and sensitivity to cold or hot drinks. I'm not sure if the deal is for new patients only but @ 35$ I'll be bringing in the family soon. CONS: They need more car magazines in the waiting area. read more

I really didn't want to write this review because my experience here truly upsets me and I don't want to rehash it in my mind. I went to Pasadena Smiles on a whim one afternoon to get my teeth cleaned because my insurance allowance for the year was about to expire. I had never been to Pasadena Smiles but their office is very close to my house, so I made an appointment. I had no problems with any of my teeth at that point. During the teeth cleaning, they x-rayed my teeth just to check if everything was ok. The dentist there said everything looked fine, but he highly recommended that I change out around 6 or so fillings because they were silver fillings. He told me the white fillings were much better for a variety of reasons, one of which is that they prevent decay inside your teeth, and that silver fillings over time may cause decay. This was a preventative move. I agreed to changing my fillings to white fillings, not thinking there were potential problems that might arise. This may sound dramatic, but that decision is likely the worst medical decision I've made in my life. Now, nearly 6 months after the dentist changed my silver fillings to white, I still have teeth pain when I eat anything remotely hard, like toasted bread or crackers. The changed fillings also resulted in my very first root canal. If it was just the root canal, I honestly would be ok with it just because it's a day of discomfort, but the consistent teeth sensitivity/ pain I still have is the most upsetting to me. The worst thing about the experience is that the dentist did not warn me during his recommendation that because he would have to drill my teeth in order to remove and replace a filling, it could lead to a root canal situation. He also did not inform me that the replacement of fillings can also lead to teeth sensitivity and pain for quite some time. I remember just thinking, wow great! I'll have white fillings instead of silver now. Looks better cosmetically, and I'm doing "a good thing" for my teeth by taking preemptive action against decay. But I'm not the dental expert and neither are people who are not dentists. I really think the dentist should have told me the possibilities of what could happen, and had he done so, I know I would not have messed with my fillings. I've had those silver fillings for many, many years and they were never an issue. My teeth felt perfectly fine, no pain, no problems before I went to Pasadena Smiles. To make matters worse, after getting the root canal as a result of replacing the filling, my retainer no longer fit because the crown was a different shape from my old real tooth. So I had to get a new retainer, but in the meantime, some other teeth (that also had replacement fillings) were hurting, so I had to wait to see if that pain would go away or whether those teeth also needed root canals. As I was waiting, my front teeth shifted. I had Invisalign years ago to straighten my front teeth, so this really made me upset-i spent a lot of time, money, and effort to go through the Invisalign procedure and now my front teeth were slightly crooked again. Finally, I had to spend an addition $700 elsewhere to get a new retainer. Currently, my teeth where I had the filling replacements still hurts when I chew on certain foods. I used to love cereal and crusty bread, but can't eat those things anymore. I've spoken to a few dentists (some friends, and one other dentist where I got my new retainer) about my experience and they have all said one identical thing: they would absolutely not recommend replacements of fillings unless the patient is having some kind of issue (pain, discomfort, etc) with their existing filling. As I said earlier, I didn't have any teeth problems or pain when I first visited Pasadena Smiles. To be fair, when I had teeth sensitivity and pain following the filling replacements, the dentist did invite me back to keep adjusting my bite to see if the pain would go away. Unfortunately, I still have teeth pain even after adjusting my bite many times (including at a different dental office). In the end, I'm just deeply regretful that I picked Pasadena Smiles for my teeth cleaning because I've been dealing with a dental nightmare ever since. read more

Another health care provider of mine from City of Hope referred me there. We share the same condition. April who works there is a sweetheart and pleasure work with. Dr Spero is now our family dentist, I called him when my daughter had an emergency 11pm at night and he answered on his cell, he even saw us immediately the next morning. He took care of her root canal and was very kind very gentle and explained everything that he did as he did it. I did a last minute, last resort emergency appointment with Dr. Spero after my toothache had worsen rapidly over the past week. Had little options at the time (the pain increased at the start of weekend and the swelling started to appear) so I ended up appearing Sunday morning to get an extraction done same day. Due to insurance issues I paid out of pocket but based on the situation and the care I was given throughout, it was worth every penny. I was literally saved - the pain and suffering caused by that one tooth affected my last 2 weeks - the past week alone, I had not had more than 3 hours of sleep a night. With the pain gone and the medication received to treat the serious infection from that one tooth, I can now sleep peacefully. Thank you Dr. Spero! read more

Dr. Spero answered the phone at midnight, my son had a extreme toothache. He scheduled a early morning appointment for my son. I was very impressed and grateful for the information he gave us about how to reduce the pain for the night. He texted me the office information. When we seen him at the appointment, he was so kind, friendly and genuinely cares about his patients and business. I told him I trust his with the care of my teenager dental care. We have a dentist in OC, my son didn't like the treatment plan though it's mainly due to his lack f care for his teeth. Dr. Spero said I'm sorry for your previous experience, I'm going to be your guy! Your dentist that you will bring your future family too, tell all of your friends go see my dentist. With a root canal my son came of of the office happy and said that was fast. He was very happy with the work he received. My son had a follow up and was being a disrespectful teen, I canceled the follow up. Dr. Spero listen to my frustration about my teen and said he really needs to finish the treatment. He told me he too has kids and understands how I feel, he asked if I trust him to call my son, to discuss the importance of treatment. I told him yes. I was struggling for two days and I finally found a doctor who took me the same day during CVOD 19 pandemic when it was hard even to take an appointment with my doctor. He also called me after two days to check how is it going and gave me another appointment for check up. He os very caring doctor. The office and the rooms were very clean which was very important for me during pregnancy find a clean place while this virus going on. The nurse sanitized whole room after patients left. No Better Dentists in Pasadena! Dr. Spero and Dr. Koutchek are beyond the best dentists around. I had a dental emergency, a cracked tooth that my regular dentist thought was more a medical condition, and the urgent care doctor was certain was a dental issue. I sought a second opinion on the dental, and sure enough, it was a cracked tooth. They were extremely professional, took the time to explain what was needed, what would take place during the root canal, what I should expect over the next few days, and the portion my insurance would cover and my out of pocket cost. The office staff was exceptional as well and detail oriented. Pasadena Smiles really care about the patient's well being. They have well earned a family full of new patients. read more

Picture it.. Sunday afternoon and your son comes and tells you he has the most horrific pain being cause by his wisdom tooth ( we know it's his wisdom tooth because 4 days prior we went to our family dentist and he said it was and he will schedule us to get it removed "3 WEEKS FROM NOW".) I looked on my phone for any emergency dentist available. Knowing that I wouldn't have much luck, it being Sunday. I was so shocked to receive a call back from Dr Spero. He told me not to worry and that we will get it done first thing tomorrow morning. He advised us on what to do to reduce the pain and it worked. The next morning we visited his office and he took x-rays and before you know it the tooth was out. I can't begin to tell you how grateful I am that there is still medical professionals who are still professional. I have since advised my "family dentist" that we will no longer be needing his services and found someone who won't let a patient wait 3 WEEKS to remove what he should know is causing extreme pain to them. read more

I found Dr. Spero's practice on a whim. i needed some emergency dental work and it was the first one to pop up on my search. I was a little scared but i had a feeling it would be ok. They responded quickly although it was late on a Sunday evening and set me up for an appointment first thing Monday morning. I ended up needing two extractions that day. and I'm not exaggerating when i say it was completely PAIN FREE. They were professional kind and attentive and made me feel totally comfortable. I was in an emergency situation at 2am and desperate for tooth pain relief. When this office mentioned they had emergency dental services I immediately called the number. At a minimum I was expecting to leave a message but Dr. Sperro was on call and answered. Without hesitation he acknowledged my need and was scheduled for 8am that morning. He was short staffed but still managed to serve as receptionist, assistant and doctor with professionalism and urgency. He quickly examined my mouth and took xrays. What impressed we was how thorough he addressed each of the issues I had going on but his first priority was giving me pain relief. He quickly prepped me for a root canal and wisdom tooth extraction. I felt at ease but most important he ensured the entire procedure was painless. He was personable, genuinely considerate, and just candid about cost, my diagnosis and treatments. I have never had an experience like this from a dental office. Im so grateful this office exists in San Gabriel Valley. Oh and if you are concerned about going to a dentist during CoVid, they practice proper hygienic procedures, and social distance guidelines. read more

I came to see the charming, professional, and intelligent Dr. Spero and his lovely staff because I purchased a deal on Amazon Local for a cheap cleaning, exam, & digital X-rays. Needless to say, I was very impressed upon my first visit. The friendly staff showed me to the high-tech digital X-Ray machine, which offers reduced radiation and extremely detailed images. I could not read the old-fashioned X-Rays at my old Doctor's office, but when Dr. Spero went through my X-rays he explained my dental history and current condition in great detail and I learned things about my teeth that I never knew before. He even accompanied our discussion with a live-action digital camera so I could see exactly the parts of my teeth as he told me about them. I have a bunch of treatments coming up in follow-up visits, so I will update this review as they occur. I am positive that Dr. Spero will do a tremendous job, though, and I look forward to my new and improved dental health! UPDATE #1: I just had some work done, and I'm yet again really pleased with Dr. Spero and his wonderful staff. Dr. Spero extraordinarily gentle, and he told me that if I was uncomfortable at all or if there was too much water I could just raise my left hand, and when I did he would stop immediately and fix the problem. He found two cavities that my last dentist failed to see, and he said that the cavities were so deep that if I had waited longer they would have become root canals (there's a slight chance that they still will, but hopefully they'll be okay with just the fillings). I'm going back next week to finish the work, and I'll review again after that visit. read more

It's been hard finding a dentist lately with covid. Luckily Dr. Spero is open and willing to see people. I had a bad problem with pain and he saw me right away. He helped me out with my insurance and gave me a plan that I could use for treatment. He also made me feel very comfortable as I have a hard time with trust with dentists. I Had the most amazing experience at This Dental office, I called Dr. Spero on Saturday due to extreme Tooth Pain and he made time for me to come in Monday he was polite making sure I was ok even saying please and thank you to his Dental Assistant while she was assisting Him. During my visit there was an irate patient asking for the impossible and when he said he couldn't this she began yelling and crying saying he was a bad person he continued trying to make the person understand he remained professional at all time.
