I came to PTT with a broken wing. I was assigned to Chase who interviewed me and determined what therapy I would need. I was hesitant and afraid, but he thoughtfully and thoroughly explained the procedures as he went along. I found him to be caring, thoughtful, patient and funny. I also found him to be a good mentor to the various aides assigned to him. The entire staff is very helpful, friendly and caring. They make you feel like you're part of a big family. For years I had a problem with my knees shifting out of place whenever I land with all of my weight on one foot such as running or jumping. It eventually got to the point where I couldn't even walk down the stairs or downhill without being absolutely careful. I came to Pasadena Physical Therapy because I finally got the idea that maybe it was time to fix this issue before it got even worse. Loc was my therapist and at my consultation, he was patient and understanding with me even though I came in without a doctor's referral. Oops! Two things stood out to me the most at the consultation. One, when I think he was testing my legs out, my kneecap spontaneously shifted out of place. He called it gnarly. Two, he said that the muscles that were supposed to keep my kneecap in place had atrophied. (That was fun to hear.) About eight weeks of physical therapy later, I am now able to jog with my dogs safely and my legs feel SO strong! I never realized how weak my thigh muscles were until I poked my thigh one day and actually felt muscle instead of the usual squish of fat. All of the therapists here are super friendly and there's always some music playing. Thank you so much, Loc! I am so glad I decided to come here. The staff is friendly, helpful and welcoming. I especially appreciate their ability to accommodate my schedule. They also accepted my insurance with out a problem. What I found most impressive is how a minor correction in stance or lean can lesson pain, strengthen or activate a muscle. I am being educated when I ask while I am receiving the therapy. I am learning to use muscles that weren't working which contributed to my condition and pain. The staff works well together and their receptionist, Brittany, is super nice, helpful and a friendly energy. Pasadena PT is the third PT shop I've been to in a year of PT since being injured. Given my experience with PT, I feel qualified say Loc and the entire staff are on a completely different level. This place is so far above and beyond the (well reputed, very expensive) other PT shops; it's not even close. Each therapist is uniquely and deeply skilled and therapy addresses your exact needs. Other places have protocols for certain injuries which they seem mandated to follow without deviation. Pasadena PT customizes everything for exactly what is going on with the nuances of each patient's individual experience with the injury. I even heard that Loc went to a guy's workplace to assess the ergonomics so that the patient wouldn't reinjure himself. That kind of dedication at the top is reflected by the entire staff. My particular injuries are complicated with ongoing symptoms so I am still there but I see people leaving with rehab complete all the time. I've had some injuries and misalignments fixed on the spot, to my complete astonishment. Unfortunately, some of my injuries aren't fixable by PT or anything else I know of, but I know Dr. Rao will do the best for the ones that are. Honestly if every health care provider had the heart and dedication of Dr. Rao and everyone there, the medical system would be such a different and better place. I had a minor whiplash from a cycling accident . I had a stiff neck for a couple of months post accident. I was recommended to Pasadena PT by a friend so I did some research on Pasadena PT. The research yielded good reviews and testimonials. I decided to give it a shot. I went in for an initial evaluation and met with Dr. Locatelli Rao, who is the head of PPT. Lucky me! He was very thorough in asking a lot of questions and took the time to explain my symptoms. A lot of things he told me made a lot of sense where I understood what he was explaining without the medical terminology. Locatelli (Loc) is very much to the point, but he is also a personable guy. His straightforward mannerism may be intimidating at first, but he's a really cool guy. If you like cars, then you'll have a good conversation with him. He knows what he is talking about and is very confident on his approaches. My initial impression was that Loc and his staff can alleviate my problem. My dilemma between that Pasadena PT and another clinic was PPT out of my network so I had to pay a bit more before insurance kicked in. Since Loc instilled confidence that he can restore my normal functions in a month ( I wasn't so sure about it at the time), I figured it might be worth paying a bit more for quality care and a I had a good first impression. The payment difference wasn't significant out of network for what was prescribed to me. Fortunately, my gamble on this was successful. On top of this, the staff was professional and courteous which helped my decision from not continuing with another in-network PT. Loc doesn't chase the symptoms, but attacks the problem at the source. He noted that my bad posture was the root cause in amplifying my problems post accident. He provided a treatment plan that will help my posture improve. Also, every time I went in, Loc would do some tests for motion, assess my condition, and proceed with appropriate muscle therapy. I have to warn you he has strong hands so you will feel some pain, but your body will thank him later. I went in for 3 sessions and by the third one, my symptoms were more or less gone. The key to this is to be due diligent with the recommended exercises and instructions given by the physical therapist. Also, being physically active speeds recovery time. You will have to do some work on your part of course. Results may vary. I was done in 3 sessions instead of 4 like Loc anticipated. I guess the good doctor underestimated his awesome ability. He didn't feel like he needed to do any more or take more of my money. I appreciated that. So far, I am experiencing a 98% recovery. Thanks to Loc, Kelly, and Allison for being cordial! read more

5 stars are for Kerry Lane, for her amazing work in starting up the Aquatherapy program at Waterworks. She has helped me tremendously in strengthening back and muscles supporting my knees. I am very sad to hear that she is leaving Pasadena Physical Therapy soon. I am not aware of any other Aquatherapy program as good as Kerry's. Also want to give props to Kerry's aide, Carrie, she has been wonderful. read more

Liz is awesome. Totally no BS, she just gets to business. Very attentive to making sure you do exercises with correct form and that you do things that are going to make you feel better. I came in with a compression fracture in my L5, barely able to walk more than 20 or 30 steps in a row. Three months later, I am jogging, doing some weights and thankfully, even some light boxing again. I feel great thanks to the staff here. I had knee issues and was referred to Pasadena PT. The owner, Loc, was very accommodating and kept tabs on the Physical Therapist treating me at the time. I am now with Jordan Perry, a recent hire, and I couldn't be happier with my workouts and with him. He is thorough, knowledgeable, hands on, professional yet personable, available by email, and is a patient teacher and instructor. My knees feel much better, my regiment is set, and I feel i am doing what I need to keep my knees healthy and ward off any type of surgery. Lorry is awesome and pleasant to work with. Went here for 7th time due to serious elbow injury. She adjusted the therapy based on my condition. She also suggests home exercise which I followed every day. The facility offer different exercise equipment to treat different patients' needs. At first, I was doubting PPT's potential to correct my Achilles tendinitis because it's been hurting for the longest time even after a few sessions. However, I was wrong to make such an assumption. I'm glad I found PPT on Yelp because I am almost 100% better! Thanks to Kerry, I can get back on the track to train and condition for college track. I was afraid that my Achilles injury will haunt me in college, but I feel more confident that it won't bother me in the future. I had a torn ACL and went to another physical therapist and was cleared but my knee still didn't feel right and I knew I was still missing a lot of flexion and extension. I decided to do PT again with Pasadena Physical Therapy and saw Dr. Charles Benandi. After doing PT with Dr. Benandi I was able to feel confident in my knee and able to move around like I used to before tearing my ACL. I gained full extension and flexion, I don't wake up with a painful and stiff knee in the mornings. I don't even feel a difference in my knees anymore. I loved how every week when I would go to PT he would check my progress and go through with me what was causing what or why we are doing certain stretches and exercises and how they help. I enjoyed the homework he would give me to work on it and keep up my progress at home. The one on one attention was great and very much appreciated because my first physical therapist definitely didn't do that with me. I also appreciated how he was available to answer any questions I had regarding the at home exercises or my concerns about playing sports through text or email.Would definitely recommend to anyone I meet who needs to see a physical therapist and my first stop if I ever happen to get injured again. I was advised by my Stetson Powell orthopedic surgeon, Dr Christopher Lee, to come here. I am glad I listened to him because they have great physical therapists (I've worked with Loc and Liz, and both are AWESOME) and a professional staff! My therapist, Lory Yeh, DPT worked with my on a 1-1/2 year old knee injury from a yoga class. I was very pleased with her intuitive understanding of my particular problem.... stretching tissue (fascia) enable me to relax the knee and achieve a better range of motion. It is a highly prized technique, and I made constant improvement with her help. The new facility on California Blvd promises to have more equipment and service than the old one on Union. One criticism: I think the physical therapists could help you write out (or print out) an exercise to take home, otherwise the exercises targeted for your problem could be not performed correctly, or worse, completely forgotten. I was pretty skeptical of physical therapy till I started treatment here at Pasadena Physical Therapy. I'd seen physical therapists at other clinics who were working with 4 other people when I was scheduled to meet with them, as well as a physical therapist who was rude and lied to me about what my doctor ordered. I was in so much pain with my shoulder that I decided to try once more and I'm glad I did. I am currently working with Blair at the Pasadena Physical Therapy Center who dedicates my therapy time to me and does an incredible job of adjusting my painful shoulder and teaching me proper exercises for long term posture health. Blair is also charming and polite and really seems to like her work. She certainly has a healing touch! I highly recommend this center, the atmosphere is very professional yet friendly. I had injured my hip and wasn't able to run for over a year. I kept thinking it would heal on its own but every time I tried to exercise my hip would flare up again. After I tore my ACL playing basketball, I was worried that I would never be the same again. After I finished with my physical therapy sessions at Pasadena PT, I know I will be back and I will be better. Since day 1, Loc and his crew made me feel like I was at home. A very friendly environment mixed with strong knowledge about physical therapy makes this the best place for somebody to come after they have suffered an injury. They have a vast amount of equipment that they use to help get you back to the way you were, and they even have the state-of-the-art Alter G treadmill. For anybody that has suffered any kind of leg injury, I recommend coming here just for this amazing machine. It got me back into running way before my doctor had predicted that I would. I also cannot speak more highly about my physical therapist, Liz. She is absolutely great at what she does, and she cares a lot about her patients. I limped in to our first session with a big brace , and I walked out of my last session jumping back up to the heights that I was getting to before my injury. After a few sessions, she'll make you feel like you've been friends for years. Which is good because if you start slacking off during your workout, she'll call you out on it. Look, I can go on and on about how much I loved this place and how great everybody there is. Bottom line is, they know their stuff and they will make sure that you are back to 100% in no time. Their work is so great that even my doctor was shocked at how fast I progressed through my rehab. It's a small place, but they're doing big things in there. I would give it 6 stars if I could, but for now all I can say is; This is the only physical therapy place that you should be going to. read more

A good friend recommended me to Pasadena Physical Therapy and so thankful that she did! I had a silly kickboxing fall which left me with a torn meniscus and ACL. The orthopedic surgeon was ready to operate right away and very quick to offer me a surgery date without discussion of possible alternatives. Dazed and confused, I contacted Loc. He chatted with me over the phone and offered to do an evaluation.  I was a little uneasy at first since I have never been to PT before, but Loc's knowledge and experience quickly put me at ease. He laid out a recovery plan for me and confident that after about 10 sessions, I would be back to my usual routine and be able to even ski this season! I have just completed my PT sessions and my knee feels 100% better! Not only did I learn a lot about the mechanics of my body, but I was armed with home exercises to help maintain strength for the long haul. As soon as I walked in the door I knew I might be in trouble for selecting this place: after I had arrived right on time, the receptionist left me standing at her window while she finished a few text messages. I was told to take a seat and wait...and wait...and wait. Finally after twenty minutes the therapist came out and introduced himself and said it would be another 5 minutes. Then incredibly, another patient walked in the door, right past me, and was ushered right into a session. Obviously this place double-books patients and thus makes patients who arrived on time wait, which is beyond infuriating. After 45 minutes I finally gave up and left. I never received a call or email from the therapist apologizing for his incompetence. Nothing. In retrospect, it's probably a good thing that I learned early on how this place treats its patients before I invested any more time or money. Patients, beware of this place. read more

For over two years I've dealt with chronic knee pain as a result of a bad meniscus tear, despite having a meniscectomy and much physical therapy. Within weeks of working with Scott Saley at PPT, I am nearly perfectly pain-free and am armed with a host of strategies to bring relief when I do have pain. I visited several orthopedists and worked with several physical therapists to try to get to the root causes of my pain, including specialized knee rehab classes at the therapy pool at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center. I had just about given up being pain-free or ever returning to my previously fairly active life when I found PPT and things immediately started to turn around. Scott is a very careful, thorough patient evaluator and healer; he was able to determine problems and solutions no one else had been able to identify. Look no further! This place is a gem -- I feel so incredibly lucky to have found Pasadena Physical Therapy. I originally came in when a car accident left me with whiplash, and after clearing that up along with some postural stuff, the amazing Loc has helped me resolve a two-year-old problem with my foot. I had been to three podiatrists and tried everything for this injury -- from cortisone shots to casts to medication, not to mention a slew of expensive diagnostic tests -- and I was beginning to think I'd either have to undergo risky 'maybe-it-will-work' surgery or be stuck with chronic foot pain forever. Loc and his practice have changed all that. Immediately he was able to diagnose my problem as a hip issue, and now... well, I can walk around without pain, how's that for life-changing?
