We usually receive: Dry Cat Food,Wet Cat Food,Treats,Cat Litter, Flea & Tick Treatments,and Pet Shampoo. They also have Crates, Beds,Toys, Leashes and Collers per request. Donations vary each month based on what was donated. If you are a Pet Pantry member you also receive FREE Microchipping and Vaccines. This Program is for low income families in 11 surrounding cities( you need your check on their website for the cities that qualify) Once you are accepted into the program you schedule an appointment. We went in on a Tuesday in hopes to adopt a cat and we were just in luck, a 10 week old kitten was available for adoption! We had to wait a day for his neuter surgery, but the lady at the adoption center (I think her name was "Mei" or "Mei-li" was super helpful! She didn't want us to blindly adopt the kitten so she did what she could so we could meet him! Overall we had a great experience here at Pasadena humane! Our kitty found a forever home and the people at the adoption center were super helpful and informative!!! read more

This is my second time trying to interact with the PHS. The first time, to adopt a pet. This more recent time is in my attempt to rehome the cat that I adopted who is not a good match for what I can offer. I have two observations about the PHS: 1) Whether the customer is considered the human or the pet, it is not customer-service oriented. Any human trying to interact with it is faced with multiple barriers just trying to access the organization. There are literally only 3 hours a week when it's open to the public. The rest of the time, you must have an appointment. But getting through by phone is no easy task either - typically, I'm met with voice mail, rather than a person, or, worse yet, a full mailbox. When I did get a voice-mail response for the question I left on voice mail, the person misunderstood my question, so I was back to Square One. 2) The mindset seems to be to adopt out as many cats as possible, as quickly as possible. This instead of trying to help people make a good match. For one thing, they were not honest about the reasons the cat ended up at PHS. The last time I adopted from a pet shelter, they gave me the information form from the previous owner (of course with owner ID and contact information blanked out). This time, even after 3 phone calls, they refused to give me a copy of the report. When I asked them to read for me word-for-word, they paraphrased. I know this because each person I talked to used different words to describe the reason that cat was given up. Do they take for granted that a person who adopts from a pet shelter will not just bring it back rather than find it a good home? Because now, after spending a ton of effort and money, and becoming clear that this is not going to work out, they are no help at all. Again, the barriers trying to get through by phone. I was hoping I could use their home-to-home adoption page to be sure he gets a good new home. But again I was faced with multiple attempts to get through to PHS before I received a message with a string of organizations I can reach out to to put my pet up for adoptions. I realize this is a volunteer organization with limited resources. I suspect they are making more work for themselves the way it is organized now. They certainly are not doing the animals or potential owners any favors by risking bad matches. It just gets the animal, perhaps only temporarily, off their hands. read more

The Pasadena Humane society has low cosy spay and neuter procedures so I took my 8mth old Jack Russell girl to be spayed for $300. They did a good enough job, a bit raggedy of a scar on her tummy but worst of all...they tattoo a bright green line on the stomach after to show that she has been spayed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now my beautiful perfect puppy has a kelly green line down her tummy. I'm so upset I have no words. The stomach scar would have been more than enough proof she had been spayed. Anyhow, I'm her owner and I know and I dont need a green tattoo to remind me! She has about a bright green about 1 1/2 inch bright green line on her tummy. She is white and brown and it is horrible and her hair will not grow on her tummy to cover it. I'm so upset, everyday when I see her I see this big bright green line down her middle, I mean just awful. Come up with a better solution guys, I wish I had gone to the Vet and even paid 3x as much, my PUPPY wouldn't have a bright green tattoo!!!! I want to cry. read more

We took our bird for emergency boarding and we were turned away even though a potential reason for my bird critical condition being the Eaton fire smoke, we went to them searching help and told them that the vet was too expensive and they simply sent us to another vet that may be even more expensive. She was in a critical condition and they had the materials to help her, but she is now in a life threatening spot that might lead to her death read more

The facility is clean but it feels quite corporate. They have kittens on their website listed as available but informed me, after waiting and waiting to be able to see the cats, that NONE of them were available to adopt because they are saving them for CatCon (a huge cat conference being held this weekend). That is really too bad as she also said they would likely not adopt out all 200 cats at this convention. So you are a shelter hoping to help animals and I'm a willing person ready to adopt and you won't adopt to me? Because you are receiving money to hold these cats? It doesn't make sense.the volunteers were pleasant but the young woman who seemed to be in charge of adoptions clearly does NOT enjoy what she does.and lastly the entire system they have set up (scanning QR codes, then going back to The front to wait for someone to bring you back to the same area) IS STUPID. Especially when you have a child with you, and the organization requires all members of the family be present. So imagine seeing kittens in the website for adoption, bringing your child, going through these hoops, then being told there are not any kittens. GET IT TOGETHER. read more

My partner and I were fortunate enough to have adopted our sweet dog, Pepper, formerly known as Millicent, at a recent free adoption event from Pasadena Humane. Despite the commotion of having hundreds of people waiting, we were met with such kindness and compassion from the staff members and volunteers who have dedicated themselves to helping these animals. So much so that I felt compelled to write this. I think few people outside the organization really know what is really involved with caring for thousands of animals year in, year out, and all the intricacies and obstacles they must deal with on a daily basis. But regardless of the uphill challenges they inevitably face, the people of Pasadena Humane are really doing an amazing job (and have been doing so for so many years). We called the humane society last night to report a lost dog, the first thing the lady on the phone does is let out a massive sigh* Asks lethargically, where the dog is located, says we will send a truck out there and hangs up immediately. No follow up, no truck showed up and this dog was petrified. You need to monitor your calls more, it's unacceptable to have these workers at an organization that have obligations to take in and care for animals. I'd personally show up and tear a new one for the lady on the end of the line. We got the dog now, he's in safe hands no thanks to you guys. 4 days he was out on the streets eating fruit off trees and licking up water from the gutters. You people disgust me. Do better. This place makes adopting too complicated. 100,000 animals are euthanized in California shelters each year. I feel like if a person is interested in saving a pet, staff should be friendly, answer phones, and make it easy for a person to save one. I can't say thats true for Pasadena Humane. There visiting hours are strange. You CAN'T adopt during visiting hours. You can walk around feeling despondent while looking at animals you can't help. Staff can't answer any questions about the animals. So, you can't even figure what animal would best suit your household while your there. They want you to make an appointment during their limited available spots online only. Also, I tried figuring this information out before driving to Pasadena Humane, but they don't answer phones. I came in feeling a bit down hoping to be cheered up by seeing pups everywhere. All I wanted to do was spend time with some loving pups who needed forever homes. The cages were kept clean for the most part, and there were volunteers there spending time keeping the dogs company inside their cages. I came in hoping to be cheered up but by the end of my visit all I wanted to do was take home every dog that needed a loving home. Take your time when visiting the Pasadena Humane Society. Update: after weeks of trying to talk to someone at the shelter, I managed to speak with the VP of Operations Jonathan McDonnel. It took a ton of detective work to even track down his email, but since he was the deciding power on my dogs fate I was persistent. Jonathan was very professional and courteous, however he did tell me that it is the team's decision (led by aforementioned behavior manager Fernando) to stick with their original plan. He did, however, ensure me that they are actively looking specifically for the home of a breed-specific dog trainer to give this canine all the extra attention he deserves. Well, I mean who could argue that? Unless you're a trainer, that answer pretty much trumps any argument you might have right? I sadly accepted the answer, knowing that the boy will at least have tons of activity and a fulfilling purpose. Nope. The following week I discovered thru a friend that the shelter is just handing the dog out based on a few phone interview questions to any applicant, per their usual protocol with other pets. The VP lied to me. I was really hoping for even a bittersweet ending to this story but the mismanagement, lack of transparency, lack of humility and communication, and sheer lies of this organization just devastated me. If you're looking at a pet, just get it and get out. If you're looking at any interaction with this shelters staff or especially management, just don't. read more

really ridiculous and waste of time. i tried calling multiple times to set an appointment / call for information for any strays dogs that match the description of my poor pup that ran away yesterday, had both of my calls hung up. i drove all the way out there just to be denied entry to see any of the stray dogs. the worker i talked to lacked so much empathy about lost pets, and kept referring me to the website.. she wouldn't even bother to look at a picture i had. you're probably better off looking for your dog on your own since the workers don't seem to care. read more

I had found a lost dog at the park and called here to see if I could bring him in. They told me to take him to another shelter that does take in lost dogs and I was assured he would be taken in. Once I got to the place they told me they could not take him as the shelter was full. This is exactly why I had called in advance so I wouldn't be in an uncomfortable predicament. I told them I had no where to put the dog since I already have a dog at home. They told me to just let the dog out in the streets. Please make sure you have correct information before giving it out. Booking your birthday party here benefits animals AND is something totally different and fun. This is the area's best kept secret when it comes to Bday party venues, and it's reasonably priced. The staff members are so attentive and great with the kids. They helped me so much. I felt like I had my own built-in party planner/coordinator. They really facilitate most of the party and provide fun learning opportunities. The 1.5-hour party was a bit quick ... You get 30 mins at the end to do food/cake and free time, so make sure to have everything ready to go. The kids loved making blankets for the enrichment activity. There weren't many animals there (actually a good thing for animal welfare) so just be aware of that. We weren't able to play with cats outside of their cages like some of the promo phots suggest, but I think the kids were still on cloud nine. I took my cat here to get neutered and the staff were so caring and sweet. I was very nervous bringing him in and the staff made me feel comfortable leaving him with them. They told me that they were not able to neuter him because he has a heart murmur. After hearing that I was so worried and scared but they fully explained everything that I needed to know. They took the time to make sure that I had all the information I needed. I am so grateful for the staff, they are amazing! read more

I do not recommend turning in wild animals you find in hopes of saving them as this shelter will euthanize them. (Just be aware of that.) First off, I love all the programs they have here & know how hard all the volunteers/staff work. I acknowledge all their efforts to help the animals; however, I'm also disappointed with how the front desk staff and wildlife department handled an animal I turned in by euthanizing it!! I found a healthy baby pigeon that could eat on its own and just needed a few more days to grow & stay warm to be independent. I gave it food and took it here knowing they have a wildlife rescue department. Upon checking the bird in, the ladies at the front desk gave me a paper to fill out which elicited the animal's description, etc. There was also a section asking me to sign agreeing that I was Ok in case the animal needed to be euthanized. I did not sign it and asked the ladies if there was a possibility the bird would be put down. They assured me that would not be the case saying, "Oh no... that's just for really sick animals. We're going to take care of the bird and release it back in the wild." So I made a donation and signed the paper only to find out they took her to the back and euthanized her right away due to space and the fear of a potential avian disease going around. She wasn't even tested first. I understand there might not be funding, but I should have been told the truth. If I had known I was taking the bird to her death, well I wouldn't have done it & I would have taken care of it myself or released her at the park. I thought I was helping the poor thing. People should be told the truth and be aware that the animal will most likely not even get a second chance. I ask for forgiveness for having been ignorant. read more

I'm leaving a 5 star because my experienced ended very well and the staff was super kind, but I wish there would be some protocol implemented so this doesn't happen again. I drove an hour here, in the rain, so I could take a look at a specific cat. I already had a feeling that the appointment before mine was looking at the same cat and I was right, I didn't mind at first because I expected it. I arrived at 10:45am (despite the rain and traffic) and was told the other person waiting at the bench had the 10:30am appointment, was also looking at the same cat, but we were waiting on his girlfriend. His girlfriend didn't arrive until 11:04am, thirty minutes past his appointment. Normally, when you're late by 15 minutes your appointment is voided/cancelled. I understand because one of the party members were already there that it would make sense to wait, but thirty minutes? You don't book the earliest appointment just to be late, that's inconsiderate and disrespectful to EVERYONE's time. If you need two people to make a decision, and only one person is there on time, then I do believe that the staff should have voided their appointment after the 15 minute mark, because you're late. It doesn't matter if someone is there. It's not fair for the people waiting and it's not fair for the staff to wait on someone who booked the first adoption appointment of the day. The staff was super lovely though and I did still manage to adopt a kitten at the end of the day which I'm super happy with. I just thought there should be a protocol for when one member of a party is late for adoption appointments. I would also like to add that I am not bitter that the cat I initially was looking at was adopted, I expected it. I just think that some action should have been taken since it's considerably unfair for other people interested in the same cat yet the first party was late for their appointment. read more

My partner in crime and I dropped of an extremely thin sickly cat we found. We tried feeding it and had little success, indicating professionals might need to help the cat with shots and blood tests. They first encouraged us to keep it. As if we had brought the cat to McDonalds instead of the Humane Society. Then they suggested we simply release this emaciated soul back where we found her and (without saying so essentially) hope for the best. This cat was days from dying. It was a shy stray until it came up to my wife and did that desperate 'Help me!' cry. So then this fool tried a new line, "Listen! It's crying so hard! It can't handle this stress! So we can't take it." Wow. Okay. Every single #$%@ing time I've been to this place with an animal -- it's either crying or barking. OF COURSE IT'S CRYING you moron. I honestly wanted to go out front to see if this place had a big sign reading, "Under New Obnoxious AF Management." When they finally managed to remember any part of their mission statement, they took the cat into the back. Moments later we were told, "She's really old and maybe is just dying of old age diseases (and stuff)." She didn't say 'and stuff' but her opinion seemed that informed. We insisted they take the GD cat. Then we were told all sorts of new WTF'ery. That they'd put the cat on their site but not report any progress. Could we call? Nope, of course not. Which is fine, yes, but then why not just post the progress on the website? This entire bull$h!t song and dance eventually became transparent: they want to euthanize sickly animals but not catch any heat for having done so. If there were any adults on their side of the counter they would have simply said as much: we need 4 days to determine if she can be saved. If she can't we'll contact you and ask if you want her back or not. Or do you want us to just do it. Simple. Done. This poor cat went up on their website a day later. It now said she was two years old. Not an old lady at all. That page disappeared the next day. Nobody could answer over the phone what happened to her. I'd like to take some of the people at this place and drop them off as strays at the PHS. What might happen to them next? It's anyone's guess... GREETINGS RYNE, Thank you for reaching out. I adopted my cat here years ago and wanted to come back and adopt another as the process was so smooth and effortless (this was over 4 years ago now). However, things have changed for the worse. It was complete chaos and they don't allow you to go into the rooms to even look at the cats unless you make an appt. So after running back and forth from one end of the campus to the other, I was able to finally sign in to their iPad and make an "appointment". I was only allowed to pet/hold 2 cats and was constantly being pressured to adopt them. None of them could find the cats I was interested in from their site and the entire process was incredibly frustrating, we were there for hours jumping through their ridiculous hoops. How can I make a decision when I have someone hovering over me and telling me I'm only allowed to interact with 2?? They have kids helping people who don't know where any of the cats are from their site nor do they really know where anything is. As great as it is to have kids volunteering, you can't put them in charge of programs without proper training. I don't blame them, it's the management. Overall, I really feel sorry for the animals here, they've made this process really aggravating and inconvenient. i noticed an elderly couple looking to adopt and they were making them scan all these QR codes and they couldn't do it! How can you expect them to? I was ready and willing to adopt but was entirely turned off by their process along with many others that were there that day (a few fosters included). It almost felt like they don't acknowledge your existence until you sign in for an appt. The volunteers were nice but overall had no actual training. Like I mentioned, most didn't know where anything was (how to get to the cat area, the front desk, etc.). I really thoroughly loved this shelter because of the services they provide and how lovely it was to walk in and just interact with all the lovely felines. Of course, I will be forever grateful for adopting mine from here and I also like to donate here from time to time. But after this last visit, I'm done until they change this ridiculous process. read more

6 years have passed and still feel the disappointment when we were unable to take home the pet we were pre-approved to adopt due to Pasadena Humane Society employee's negligence. We do check the website quite frequently for suitable family dog that would be comparable to the dog we were initially planning to adopt back in 2013 and still have not found a dog that would fit for our family's needs. Sure, we could close our eyes and point at a dog to adopt in any of the kennels but the entire point of adoption is to find the right pet for you and to give that pet the best life you can provide. We had our dog spayed here in the fall. The operation was done well with a very small incision. Another vet who saw the scar said it must have been done well because of how neat the wound was. Our dog did not seem to be in pain after the initial medicine wore off. The process is easy and they leave you with easy instructions and ability to follow up if needed. read more

I pulled over to grab the kitten which I named Juniper and called Pasadena Humane - they asked I email the situation I described to them and they would call me back the same day. They did, even within an hour. They encouraged I try to adopt the kitten myself but my dog already isn't too fond of cats :( We scheduled a drop off and they took baby Juniper under their wing! Professional and safe place for your pets. I've taken a few cats/kittens for TNR services here. I've never had any problems or concerns. They are affordable and a caring establishment. I've even had two of my own babies spayed, chipped and vaccinated here at a low cost. I'd highly recommend to anyone looking for a clean and affordable place to TNR, spay/neuter, adopt. All my experiences here have been great. My own kitten and the colony of feral babies in my neighborhood are very appreciative as well. Appointments gets booked up very fast. Keep checking their website on the morning of last Sunday of the month. I usually had luck around 9am and they are usually all booked by the middle of that day. Their online appointment system is automated, as soon as someone cancels an appt, it immediately becomes available online... so keep checking throughout the week. read more

We came last year for my daughter's 8th birthday and returned this year for her 9th. This time we did the VIP tour and had a blast. We visited dogs, cats and critters. The two women who hosted our tour made her day so special. She also got to name a sweet puppy, Sunny, and she got to pet her at the end. We hope she finds her forever home soon! Lastly, they even gave my daughter a birthday gift and provided treat bags for her guests.
