The potato salad I ordered on the side was delicious, it had some bacon in it, and it was more savory forward in it, Amish style potato salad that has some sweet relish. Which I enjoyed a lot! Now the sandwich wasn't cheap, but it was well worth it, and we luckily got some seating and some rest from the rain while enjoying our really good food! My boyfriend got the Cuban, he was a bit worried because he hadn't had the sandwich before, but I knew he would like it so I ordered it for him and someone ate their entire sandwich (not me) so let that speak for itself! They make sure to pile those sandwiches high with meat, and they move so quickly our food came out, not even 10 minutes after we put our orders in and we were starving so it was much appreciated after walking the strip in Gatlinburg. It is tucked away a bit from the main road, but if you walk back, you'll see it, there's a bit of indoor seating, ample outdoor seating, but you just have to help the weather agrees with you. It's really active because the amount of people hoping to try the sandwiches, and it seems like they do happen to run out of the meat for the platters and what meat is left, they prioritize using it on the sandwiches.

I came in with high expectations. The restaurant has strong reviews, it's part of the Johnson Family of restaurants, and I've enjoyed several of their other establishments over the years. So I walked in expecting a meal that would have me planning a return visit before I even paid the check. What I got instead was one of the strangest cases of missing seasoning I've encountered in quite some time. Let's start with the positives. The people here are genuinely nice. Friendly, welcoming, and attentive. Everyone we encountered was pleasant and seemed to care about providing a good experience. The restaurant itself is clean, comfortable, and inviting. And the kitchen clearly knows how to cook food. The fried chicken was cooked beautifully. Crispy on the outside. Juicy on the inside. Exactly the texture you're hoping for when you order Southern fried chicken. The problem? The seasoning apparently called in sick. This chicken had all the flavor intensity of a weather report. No noticeable salt. No spice. No personality. It tasted like the chef had just completed community service at a nursing home and was legally prohibited from possessing a salt shaker. My piece of chicken was juicy and cooked properly. Unfortunately, my wife's chicken breast was noticeably dry, which didn't help matters. Then came the fried pickles. No seasoning. Chicken and dumplings. No seasoning. Coleslaw. Tasteless. At one point I started wondering if there had been some sort of building-wide seasoning shortage that nobody had told us about. The frustrating part is that none of the food was poorly cooked. Quite the opposite. The techniques were there. The textures were there. The execution was there. It just felt like someone got everything ready and forgot the final, critical step of making the food taste like something. This is a restaurant with good people, a pleasant atmosphere, and a kitchen that clearly knows how to cook. Now they just need to introduce their food to salt, pepper, and a few of their seasoning friends. Three stars. Because the potential is absolutely there. The flavor just never showed up for work.

My brother ordered the pancakes with strawberries and bananas, and we both got a side of bacon. Our food came out pretty quickly. They brought my French toast and our bacon first and let us know the pancakes would be out in just a minute. When they arrived, we were both shocked by the size. Those pancakes were huge! Everything was very good, and the staff was incredibly friendly. The only thing I wasn't a big fan of was the bacon, but my brother actually loved it. That's just one of those things where everyone's tastes are different. Whenever I can, I like supporting locally owned restaurants instead of chain restaurants, so I was glad we finally stopped in. I also appreciated the atmosphere. They had Christian music playing and scripture displayed throughout the restaurant. My faith is important to me, so I enjoyed that touch. As soon as my husband and I decided to get in the car and head to the restaurant, feeling like we had no other choice, the food arrived. The food was lukewarm and just bad quality in general. My first impression was that it was all cooked from frozen. The cheese peeled right off the "cheesy breadsticks" which were burnt and hard on the edges and the mozzarella sticks were hard and chewy. My husband ordered a Chicken Bacon Ranch "hoagie" and it was the size of a hot dog bun. The grilled cheese was not crispy and tasted almost like it had been reheated in a microwave, and the crinkle fries were clearly cooked from frozen. Not to mention, all this food plus tax and service fees was $80 total. Pretty much ruined our first night of vacation, 0/10 would NOT recommend.

I called my husband to tell him this ridiculous rule and he said no, I'll stay in the car and he won't eat breakfast and I insisted that wake our son up and he come inside. It wouldn't be fair to him. Meanwhile, the waitress asked her manager if they could make an exception but my husband was already walking in with my 18 month old. I told her if my son starts screaming because he's tired, not one employee by Sawyers better say anything about it. She said that wouldn't be a problem. I even told her that I know it's not her rule or her fault, but this is ridiculous for families to be subjected to this type of rule. The kids menu does not offer any type of waffle and my 4 year old had her heart set on a waffle. I told her they had m&m pancakes ($6.99) and she was sold on m&m's but not the pancakes. The waitress asked my daughter if she wanted a m&m waffle instead and she could get them to put the m&m's on top but they wouldn't be cooked inside the waffle. My 4 year old was so happy, she even gave the waitress a hug. Waitress was great. Fast forward to the bill, the waffle that the waitress offered my daughter... was $9.99+.99¢ for the m&m's. I didn't say a word about it, I was so aggravated at this point with Sawyer's, it wouldn't have done any good. And once again, the waitress is following the rules. Everyone at the table all said it was a mediocre breakfast at best and we all should have went to Mama's Farmhouse for breakfast instead. Sawyers, DO BETTER. You are an eating establishment in a family friendly tourist town. BE FAMILY FRIENDLY. The rule about not being able to allow my husband join us when my cranky baby is catching a quick nap? That's the dumbest thing I have ever heard and quite offensive considering we are paying customers regardless. Now, when people ask me where to go and where to avoid in Pigeon Forge, Sawyer's will be at the top of the list to avoid.
