I don't think some of the people working here are quite fond of darker tones. Im not talking about birds... At least the birds were nice. It was like some of the staff didn't like that the birds and I were interacting with each other. Very uneasy atmosphere here. And I can tell the birds feel it too. read more

So I love what they're doing with the rescued birds. But it pretty much ends there. They have an okay selection. But it's expensive. Here's the real kicker though.... The staff is very rude. Not a word was said to us when we walked in. Or during our entire visit. The birds were nicer than the staff. Thankfully, they had the pellets I was looking for, and I got a little foot toy as well. But over all, I don't think I'll be going back unless I run out of pellets and for whatever reason can't get them online. Sucks, because I was really excited. read more

I am writing this review because of all the less than favorable reviews from people who clearly don't know how a rescue works. This is a rescue, not a department store to come in and buy a parrot. That is what I am sorry to say, is what Petsmart does. People have commented about the staff not being friendly. They are not waitresses or salespeople. Many are volunteers. The main objective is to take care of the birds and help people adopt our birds. They are not selling them. Someone wrote that some of the birds don't look that great. People, these are rescue birds. Some of them have been living in really bad conditions. You wouldn't look too great either if you had been through what these birds have lived through. If you want to have a bird to just show off to people, go to a breeder and pay thousands of dollars for the "perfect bird" I wish people would just keep their mouths shut if they don't know what they are talking about. This is a fantastic rescue. The birds are well taken care and that is what is important. They have a well thought out adoption process. They want to make sure the birds are going to good homes, not a home that puts them back into a horrible environment again. Birds are complicated creatures. They aren't just something to pick up at Petsmart and throw in a cage. People need to familiarize themselves with what a rescue is intended to be, not what they think it should be before passing judgment in a post. read more

Sadly to say...I really wanted to write a Positive review but I have to be honest! This was my very first visit here. The staff is so NOT inviting or friendly at all. I'm not sure why this is. They did not greet us when we walked in which should have been warning #1. I got better treatment at the animal shelter than here. But they didn't hesitate to take my money for my purchases. I could have very well went to Pet Supermarket or ordered from Amazon as I have been but I really wanted to support this establishment. Omg the birds Welcomed us with open wings. Thank God there were birds!!! Fred gave us his undivided attention. He made sure we knew his name. Cyrus put on a very loud show for us. LOL Stewart was a little shy and cute! Cayman was so adorable just sitting there. Bosley and his friends came to the front of the cage to check us out. I literally fell in LOVE with Coco the African Grey. He seems extremely shy but warmed up to us a little. Nigel & Gandy were so sweet. All of them (the birds) were so adorable & most were very friendly. read more

I love Parrot University! Parrot U is a Rescue where you can adopt parrots by going through a free adoption process! I adopted two budgies and I plan to adopt more soon! They do free boarding and training classes. If you want to adopt a parrot this is a great place to do it!! read more

So disappointed I signed up for Parrot 101 class and the class never took place. The only way to even be considered for bird adoption is to complete the classes. How is one to move forward if you are not going to keep your end of the agreement? read more

Didn't really have the greatest experience here. The person working here is rude and seems to lack basic decorum. I drove down from Raleigh on two occasions to attend classes -- compulsory for adoption -- and filled out the requisite forms, yet was never followed up with when I inquired about any of the birds. They make you visit the bird at least three times before finalizing adoption. For every bird I inquired about, I was told, curtly, "A family is already working with that bird." I'm not sure why these birds are listed as available on the site if people are "working with" them and hence they are no longer available. For a bird who was available, I was told I would be contacted to schedule an appointment with one of the trainers, but was never followed up with. They also seem to have an unusual policy when you are interested in a specific type of parrot. The lady mentioned there was a wait-list, but, upon my probing, admitted that everyone on the list is called at the same time when a new bird arrives. Then I guess at that point whoever arrives to meet the bird first ends up being the one who is "working with" them and has dibs. When I asked about this, saying, "Oh I live in Raleigh so would only be able to come on weekends, how does this work? Does the first person in that this point always 'win'?" she replied with "I understand." Very strange indeed. Finally, they rebuke you to not "put your fingers in the cages" as soon as you come in. Condescending to adults, but reasonable I guess. Unfortunately, these rules don't seem to be enforced though for the "regulars," as I saw a few people who were friendly with the staff reaching in the cages and petting the parrots and were not reprimanded. Not really sure what that's about. If you are looking to adopt a parrot, that is wonderful! I highly recommend Phoenix Landing. They are infinitely more professional and knowledgeable, and are fantastic throughout the entire process. read more

Stepped in here on the request of my husband and was pleasantly thrilled at the place. This is a great aviary place. a lot of the birds that were surrended by their previous owners, some are 2nd or 3rd home birds. They have small birds as well as large Macaws. some of the birds have health issues that they are being treated for from either poor nutrition, or environment issues so some have no feathers which is sad. they have lots of toys to purchase and treats and they offer free classes to educate people on birds behavior and activities. their birds are available for adoption, and they also offer boarding services. The fact that they rehome unwanted parrots and dedicate their time and resources to these companions is fantastic... but I do have to say that the service was pretty bad. We have 2 macaws, one a rescue and he other was rehomed to us by an elderly man. Anyway, we have 4 children (husband is retired veteran and I am stay at home Mom.. so we have plenty of time to dedicate to our companion birds) and it's pretty obvious kids are not welcome here. Even on their adoption sheet they say how they are very hesitant on adopting birds out to families with young Children. Which I find ridiculous because our first macaw came from an extremely abusive situation and she is incredible with our children. I understand kids touch and hat may explain the nervous glares from your staff, but we went into there after we drove down from our home in Jamestown (1 1/2 hour drive!) to visit this place and got information and the young lady at the front just seemed completely bothered with us even being there; which I figured was because of the children due to the way she treated us all. Every single time we tried to ask a question or start a conversation, she just had no interest and gave us a "yeah..", "uh huh" or "oh" in reply. We purchased our items and left the store, bothered that we just wasted our time driving as far as we did. So I'm sad to say that we will most likely not be returning here. If you don't want children In your location, than don't allow them to come by letting it be known with a sign or notice on your website. I think your views about rehabilitated companions and children is horrendously uneducated and incorrect and you are missing out on people being forever customers and ever adopting with your rescue. I know that's the case for our family. Great cause, but will not be returning. read more

A stellar selection of food and toys. Superb retail shop with fair prices and it helps to know that the retail selection helps birds in need. The real star here is the staff and services offered. If you have absolutely ANY questions about your parrot this is the place to go. They know their stuff and are happy to share with anyone who wants to learn about parrots or has a question/issue with a parrot at home. The classes are FREE - absolutely no catch whatsoever. All of them (yes, I've taken all but one) are highly informative and an absolute must for parrot owners. I started classes here before my parrot hatched and by the time she arrived at the airport I felt more than prepared to handle any issues that may come up and if I don't know then I know exactly who to call! read more

I Love Parrot U! The people are always kind and welcoming, answer the questions I have as best they can and if they don't have an answer they refer me to someone who could. I have been buying my lovebird's food from here and donating newspapers to help them out a bit for some years. What they're doing is beautiful. WORST customer service ever! Followed us around making sure we didn't touch anything or no one put fingers in the cage. My son has a fascination with birds, he's autistic and loves them. But he was chased out by some creepy lady following us telling us not to put our fingers in the cage. I am not a fan of birds, but I was there for my son and I was going to spend, but no longer. The greeting alone is worth a visit to this place. Before walking in the door, you hear random screams, beeps and chirps from the adorable birds inside. I had to go out of town last minute and everything couldn't have gone smoother. My email of questions were answered quickly. The required documentation for boarding gave me the piece of mind that they had my bird's best interest (and the other boarders) at heart. My cockatiel had a small private room with a radio, nightlight and air purifier. I could tell from Amber the owner and all the staff that she would be well taken care of; their passion of pet birds is evident. They weren't annoyed when I checked in a few days later and were happy to give an update. Upon pickup, everything went smoothly. I hung out with "Bosley" before I left, what a sweetheart! Tip-make reservations asap for popular times. This place is fantastic. Better selection of toys and food than big box pet stores. Will go back for my boarding and food needs. read more
