What a mass of beautiful greenery. Any outdoor sport you want to practice, this is the park to do…read moreso. Community Parks create memories for birthdays, holding hands, kickball, learning to ride the bike and sometimes relaxing under the sun. By the way this is a good park to learn to roller skate. Montgomery Waller is surrounded by homes, near schools, the community library, senior housing and actual vibrant neighborhoods. It is quite a beautiful layout of this park. From a couple of baseball fields, full on outdoor basketball courts, paved walkways and walking trails, and play areas. It's a lot of land. If you can't social distance here, then there's a problema. As you walk the unmarked course around the park you may see cheerleaders practicing, litte league baseball, Pop Warner football, AYSO soccer, father's pushing baby carriages, celebration of birthdays and dog walkers. I really enjoy how this park is elderly friendly and safe. The paved walkways is very clean and flat and no cracks, crevices or unleveled ground. There are several manageable inclines and declines. If I was too start a walking or running club I would train at this park. In fact, I see groups doing yoga, tai-chi and cartwheels. It's biiiig. There are two areas of play structures that will likely become boring after a couple of times because expansion needs to happen. The rec center where classes are offered is atop the hill and classes are usually free. I saw Zumba having a blast. Also, there are dog poop bag boxes which offer free bags. Don't let your dog poop on the paved clean walkway. The cons to this park are a few: Limited toilets. I saw one outhouse, and two single toilets in this big park. I guess because this neighborhood is 90% diverse, perhaps they don't use toilets. I guess. Cause this is ignorant for this space to not have real toilets around the entire Park area. The other con, is the walkway should be marked with mileage markers. Parking is available in the lots or around the park. I come here once a week and enjoy it a lot. It is mostly an unshaded park from morning to evening. It's not impossible to find shade but it is a task. Bring your umbrella and/or canopy. You will thank me later. Absolutely, I would recommend this park if you are near the area. Would I make a special trip? Ummm, probably because it is a best kept secret; many people don't know it exists. If you're a trainer or have an exercise class or meet up outdoor meditation, this is a perfect place to do it.

Yet for early games they do not have bathrooms :-( Not sure if the rec center is even open on weekends but they should have a port a potty! Don't they know soccer moms drink a lot of coffee to be at the fields at those god awful hours! Goodness please fix this issue. I am never to proud to pee in a port a potty!

The park points to Mexico. Literally. (Look at the map.)…read more When I was here, it wasn't soggy. That was the nearby and much bigger Border Field State Park, whose sogginess changed our plans. That was all right, and I've given cryptic clues in my Barrio Logan-train-station review. It had to do with shrimp and warm Tecate, but it's not that kind of story. I didn't drink, and I managed to maintain my vegetarianness despite the difficulty of doing so. I've cracked under much milder conditions, which makes me want to affirm--although I won't--that pressure brings out the best in me. When I was reading at Cal, I attended a solidarity strike. It had absolutely nothing to do with Larsen Field, actually, but one of the organizers (?) reminded me a lot of one of the organizers on that bus in Tijuana. I wondered whether it was the same strong woman, but then I remembered that she (the one on the bus in Tijuana) was a nurse, and nurses didn't organize non-nurse UC workers, did they? Or maybe they did. I ate a burrito at some point. The field is well maintained, and that surprised me. I wanted to play Little League here. Or do more than pee in the community center, which was decorated nicely, like it was done by a second-grade teacher. Kids will run where they please. And they do. The river that runs near here is disappointing, but it reminds me of home. Home isn't Mexico. It's Whittier. But anyone who knows where Whittier Boulevard is might associate that home with Mexico (except for the Central Americans), and to be perfectly honest, I understand that. Better than I understand the Mission.

The festival had food truck vendors, radio stations Magic 92.5 and 91X giving away goodies. DJ Hurricane Andrew played a lot of great 80s music. They also had a Beer & Wine garden and 80s arcades for the kids. People were able to bring their beach chairs and enjoy the live music. The new park at Cota Vera had a beautiful kids playground and event entertained adults and kids. This was one of the best events I've been in a while and look forward to next year's festival. Happy Yelping :)

The area is safe and there's plenty of space for everyone. A lot of Côta Vera (neighborhood community) events are held here. Plenty of parking surrounding the park itself. There's even a bathroom and I can happily report that it's clean! There's also a gas station walking distance (across the street) and a gated dog park nearby. 10 out of 10 recommend Central Square Park :)

Parking is limited to street parking only -- there's no dedicated lot -- so it can fill up quickly during evenings and weekends. The park has two large pavilions with plenty of seating, perfect for birthdays, picnics, or group gatherings. I've seen everything from small family parties to large celebrations here. They have 2 bathrooms. There's also a sand volleyball pit, two full baseball fields, and a large playground area that keeps kids entertained for hours. As a dog owner, I appreciate that the park has multiple trash and recycling bins, so I never have to carry waste bags for long. The fields are mostly well-maintained, though there are a few areas with gopher holes -- something to watch for if you're running or walking dogs off-leash. The only downside is that the park occasionally attracts a few transient individuals or trailers parked nearby for extended periods. It hasn't felt unsafe, but it's worth being aware if you visit with kids or during late hours. Overall, this park offers great value for the community -- plenty of space, activities for all ages, and a welcoming vibe. It's one of our go-to spots for casual walks and weekend outings with the dogs.
