Beds were comfortable & rooms were quiet There was a lift for those not loving the stairs & my parents were extremely thankful for this! No free WiFi! There was a nice fruit assortment, lots of cereals & muesli, cold cut meats & a full on coffee service offering great house drip & lattes alike Staff was nice as could be & they had free parking. Would recommend Hotel Aschenbrenner as a lovely base for your Zugspitze getaway & offering free WiFi would have made this a 5-star experience!

Lots of fresh fruit, fresh bread, granola, yogurt, fresh cooked eggs. The staff was so friendly. It is beautiful and captivating and everywhere you look is a postcard. Staying at this hotel was hitting the jackpot. My friend found an awesome online deal for a few nights here. It was easy to find once we got into town. We were greeted by the friendliest employees. Michael was the man who assisted us with our bags, and showing us to our room. He was such a nice guy and continued to check on us throughout our stay to make sure everything was to our liking. Our room was clean and comfortable and large, with a small patio. It was simply decorated and we were both so comfortable the whole stay. Their breakfast buffet was INCREDIBLE. Fruits, meats, breads, quark, coffee, juices....YUM! We also got set up with bikes so we could scoot around town. That was awesome that they offered that free deal. It gave us the opportunity to see the town in a different way. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. It was a wonderful experience.

The hotel is quite nice and resembles an alpine guest lodge, which is basically what it is. The man at the reception was very helpful in getting us oriented to the town and in helping us find a restaurant for dinner. Our room had the same alpine style as the rest of the building and had a rather large bathroom. We had some trouble with the free wifi but I eventually fixed it. Breakfast the next morning (included) was good. As good as the place was, there were a few things I didn't like. They have no elevator so I had the lug my suitcase up a rather old staircase. As mentioned, I had some trouble with the wifi. The shower was tiny, much smaller than necessary and the radiator in the bathroom which looked like a rack and which we hoped to use to dry a few things we washed in the sink, did not work in early May. Finally, there's no parking here; you're on your own to find street parking somewhere. Despite that, I would stay here again. The place was nice and they were eager to help us find things to do in the area, so their service was also good.

FRAUD. NO HUMANITY…read more We arrived to this hotel late, very last minute. We decided to book hotel Maximilian because the pictures we saw on Expedia were really nice. The price was very expensive for a 3 stars hotel (over 500€ ) , but according to the pictures, we decided to go there as it was one of the few hotels left available after 10 pm. When we arrived to the reception, very exhausted after driving from Germany and some issues we had on that day, the owner received us saying that we were lucky that she was receiving us this late (11.30 pm- 12 pm), because it was a family business. (if you don't want to receive guests after 10 pm, just close the availability on the internet, as most of the hotels do, but don't use this card against us and say that you had to wait for us until we arrived: it's your business, you are supposed to do that if you want money, so If you do, don't complain!) After she complained, she was nice and showed us some places we could visit on the next day. When we arrived to the rooms, we couldn't believe it: they had nothing to do with the pictures we had seen on Expedia. NOTHING TO DO. They were really basic and poor for the price we were paying, and most of all, it was a fraud because they were different from the pictures we saw on the web. The furniture was old and some of them in bad conditions. There were stains on the carpet, sheets, and roof. Also the room was full of flies and insects, alive, and we also found a huge dead botlfie on the floor. (we have pictures of all of this). We didn't sleep well and on the next morning, we went to the reception and asked for a cancelation of the second night we had booked. We said that we wanted to leave also because on the next day we had to catch a flight in the evening in Frankfurt, so as the hotel was not good and really expensive for it's poor quality and conservation of the hotel, we thought we rathered leave this area and drive to Frankfurt so we could be close to the airport on that day. We kindly asked this, we didn't wanted to be rude and explicit about the poor quality of the rooms. But after we were nice and asked this in a good way, the owner that had received us on the previous night, got really angry and rude, and denied to cancel us the second night under no circumstances, (we told her about our need of going back to Frankfurt and she said this was our problem, not her's. Also we told her that we didn't like the rooms for the price and that they were not as we expected according to the pictures on the internet: she also said this was our problem that we had booked two nights at the hotel and we had to stay or to leave paying the rooms anyway, that she had waited for us that previous night, -maybe for 1 h maximum?- Again, if you are going to complain about this, just don't open the hotel for reservations at this time. ) After how the owner managed the situation, showing not care about our needs or opinions, just caring about receiving all the money, (she was lucky to have us there for even the first night, as we decided to go there very last minute because we were in need for a room, this wasn't planned on our trip at all. What we mean by this: 10 hours earlier to our request to canceling the room for the second night, she didn't count on the money that she was going to receive from us: almost 600€ for two night at a 3 stars hotel) . She just cared about the money, she showed to have a really bad customer care, we believe this is important to run a business. If your customer is not happy, you cannot obligate him to stay and pay. Also after you are lying about the amenities and quality of the rooms on the internet, and charging a huge amount of money for it) We would rate this place with a 0. It was a very sad experience and we were disappointed by seeing how people can be so materialistic and fake, she tried to be nice with us on the day we were leaving, when she knew she had been unfair and that we had to stay there only to not loosing our money and being very unsatisfied. WE WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE; because FIRST THING YOU NEED TO CARE IS ABOUT BEING NICE AND HAVING HUMANITY with clients and people in general. By treating clients like this, eventually you will lose all respect from the clients. We don't have anything else to say. Just a really bad experience on our trip and very poor humanity and customer care, from the owner. We hope one day they don't care only about getting a lot of money, but also caring about the needs and complains from their clients and that they make make sure their clients are happy with their service.

Overall fine hotel... with some SERIOUS caveats…read more It sounds almost unbelievable, but be aware that at least in the room we had, the bathroom doors and walls ARE SEE-THROUGH. This isn't an exaggeration: the walls and doors are actual, transparent glass. Frosted in some small places, but transparent enough to give a view into everything - including the shower (also with 100% glass walls) and the toilet, from which you have a truly splendid view into the room and vice versa. Great for open-minded couples I suppose but an absolute nightmare for anyone not willing to put their most intimate moments on display or ask their roommate to please leave the room while you're taking care of things. If, however, you can live with the display-window aesthetic of the facilities, the room, while compact, is pretty nice. The building is a bit older but that didn't stand out in a bad way, and everything that was of importance worked very well and was completely clean and well taken care of. In addition, I feel it must be said as a point of huge praise that the breakfast buffet is SPECTACULAR. Other hotels may have fruit on offer, but this hotel has FRUIT - not just the usual selection of local fruits like apricots or seasonal ones like watermelon, but a giant selection of exotic choices like passion fruit or tamarillo as well. All of which were fresh, unblemished, and readily restocked in an attractive display a mile long. Similarly impressive was the cereal selection, which included a muesli bar with at least two dozen different toppings. Truly above and beyond. It's not a giant buffet like some big chain hotel (this is a modestly-sized place after all) but for its weight class, it punches way above what you'd expect. In a world where breakfast has often been the first casualty of service shrinkflation, this one stands out. However, I just cannot get over the see-through toilet. Sorry, that is a deal breaker. Good gods.

If it wasn't for that, I would give this place 5 stars. The staff here are excellent, the food is really good and, the bar has an excellent selection of wine, whiskeys, rums and schnapps, at a reasonable price. The view here is spectacular and, there is a small lake at the back of the property where, you can go boating and hire the boat from reception. Although, the breakfast, lunch and dinner was buffet style, the food was excellent and tasted amazing. The meats were excellent and beautifully cooked, breakfast choices plenty, lots of salads and so on on offer and excellent service. The bar was the real highlight for me as not only were the staff here excellent the choices were plenty and I could have spent almost all my money just tasting various single malt whiskeys and other such drinks. I would happily come back here again for the great location, excellent food and great service.
