What a delightful little park on Park Road. Considering the playground section ... it is nice that they have separate areas for the different age groups. This solves most of the problem of anyone being a bully. There were loads of parents there with their kiddies to insure sharing. Loads of free parking avaiable. When we were there they had a few damaged parts of the playground that were boarded up and in need of repairs. All in all a very nice park area. read more

What a cool spot right by the house. I never realized this park had a not only 1 playground but 3 different ones. They have 3 different playgrounds for all age kids. It wasn't too crowded even on a Friday night. The ground of the playground was cushioned instead of dirt or grass. The area was well kept and clean and my nieces really enjoyed it. I recently discovered the stunning Park Road Park located conveniently just past the Park Road Shopping Center! There are beautiful covered picnic areas, trails, and a pond in the center with spots for fishing. The Greenway is even nearby so lots of opportunities for hiking trails, biking and more! On sunny days this place can be pretty packed, so just keep that in mind when planning your visit. I love going on walks around the pond, there are always lots of dogs and families - it's too cute! All my years recycling at this park and I never stepped foot inside to see how gorgeous it was! Thank God I got the chance to discover it when I went Saturday for an HBCU cookout. This park is pristine and beautiful. There's a playground, plenty of areas to BBQ and gather or picnic on the water and more. There's beautiful bridges and greenery everywhere. I even saw families of turtles in the water, ah so cool! This was a nice escape! Can't wait to go back. read more

Such a lovely park that you can get to on the Greenway! There's a good amount of parking, and it wasn't terribly crowded on a Sunday morning (maybe many folks were still at church). I really like this Charlotte park. It's not as big or as popular as Freedom Park, by it's still centrally located and very pretty. We went for a stroll around the pond. It's only about 3/4 of a mile, so it's not super big. It would also be a great place for a picnic. There are two large shelters. There's plenty of parking too. Up the hill from the main part of the park, there are several baseball fields. It's a great place to spend some time outside close to the city. read more

I really enjoy coming to this park. If you live in the area, I'd recommend checking it out. It doesn't have the mileage of a Greenway or as much seating as Romare Bearden Park, but it's still a nice park for those local to the area. Perfect for those interested in recreational activities (basketball, tennis, playground, cookout) or cardio around the pond. When I go, I walk the trail and enjoy the views, especially on a nice sunny day. read more

Beautiful and easy to navigate! We found just the right length and difficulty level of trail for us.

Originally I thought Park Road Park was relatively boring until yesterday when I took a run here and found that the park is connected to what is called the Backyard Trails. These trails are meant to be mountain biking trails, however they make for wonderful trail running. Other than that trail, which I can elaborate on in a separate review, the park has a lot to offer. There are 6 baseball parks, 12 tennis courts (although these are on the other side of Park Road), lots of picnic areas, ample parking and a playground for the kids. Bathrooms are conveniently located throughout but not particularly up to date or crystal clean. A trail within the park that is part gravel/sand, concrete/asphalt and boardwalk takes you around a large pond. There is currently a lot of construction ongoing to repair and upgrade these paths. In addition it appears they are working to upgrade the various pavilions within the park. Attached to the park is a recycling center and what appears to be a relatively new connection to the Sugar Creek Greenway. The pond in the park tends to stink a little bit after a rain. This comes as no huge surprise when you start to realize that the park is right next to the Charlotte wastewater treatment plant. Otherwise this is a rather large green space which is wonderful to have in this part of town. read more

Park Road Park is massive with lots of pavilions, picnic tables, a large lake a ballfield and lots and lots of speedbumps. I simply wanted an outside spot to eat my sub and I found it. This is a really cool park and there is a lot of space to be around and about. Yep, there's even a few spots with water fountains and bathrooms! read more

There is a new Greenway near this park. It follows the creek and the parking area just opened. I drove in and there was only one truck in the lot. To my surprise the dude was tuning up his mountain bike. There must be single track nearby? Most MTBers are friendly and he explained that there are trails in those woods. I have not picked up a bike for n this area yet. Guess I'll need to yelp a bike store. I have 6 bikes, all are mountain bikes save one. All are in Portland save one in Dallas. Now o need one in Charlotte. read more

I have to begin by saying I live very near to this park and I love that fact and the potential this place has but... They have apparently grounds people who take care of emptying the trash, They have landscapers that keep the place manicured, they do not have landscapers that pickup trash and trash guys they do not pick up trash. The place is terrible for litter, sort of like a new apple, when you first see it then you get home and it has a worm. Do not walk the park trash litters this place, the lake, the trails. The lack of responsibility on staff and visitors is self evident. There is actually weed eater twine littering the area, what does that tell you? If your landscapers feel comfortable enough to run the mowers, weed eaters and throw down their litter and not pick up what is being chopped up by the mowers, there is a perception it is okay. Perfect saying for this place is set by the staff first and enforcement. Then signs posted stating: Teach Your Children Correctly through example Take Only Memories Steal Only Pictures Leave Only Footprints Still time to Step Up CMC PS The lake today had signs posted that it had unhealthy bacteria..Shameful read more

This park used to be so sad that not only is it dirty, that includes bathroom, ground etc, the pond also had its water drained. I suppose they drained the water because the water got so dirty that it started attracting a massive amount of mosquito in the Charlotte summer heat. Now the water is back, but the water is still dirty and there is trash there. I am not sure why this park does not get enough attention...I go to pineville lake park and literally I see park rangers there daily, refilling poop bag stations. One time I was at pineville lake park and we had to park farther away from the park due to an event, the park rangers event offered to carry my family and our dogs on a golf cart to the park. The plus is now the bathroom in this park is much cleaner, down side I can't seem to find the light to use the bathroom! The geese poop are still on the ground. Poop bag station, I think there was one was empty. I can't seem to understand how the city decides to spend its money to maintain public recreation Also though there is not a dog park here, there isn't that many people at the park so you could technically walk your dog leash free. And if you bump into a few friendly folks who are also trying to let their dogs roam free, you can have an impromptu dog play date. read more

There's a lot better parks in the Charlotte area than Park Road Park. They're currently under construction making it impossible to walk a simple loop around the park. The lake is unkept and has a sewage smell coming from it and foam creeping up to the shores. There's also goose poop literally everywhere. Other than the immaculate baseball fields that aren't available to the public, this park looks like it hasn't seen maintenance in 6 months. I suggest Freedom Park or the Pineville Park as better options read more

I have to echo most of what Jeff S. said... My first visit to this park was this past Saturday, for a house music event. I like that there are several shelters, but it was a bit much to have a loud music event at one shelter & directly next door, there was another event, which probably didn't appreciate the music. The park area itself was clean & open; however, like Jeff stated, the pond/lake was VERY dirty looking - there was scum all over the top, even the geese were steering clear of going in. Overall, it's a good park with plenty of amenities. read more

Who knew it covered 122 acres?! Huge park with lots to do for any outdoor activity. There's a lake as well and some drainage system or something, but I like to think it's a submarine top. Great looking basketball courts! They have tennis courts across Park Road. The children's play area looks good too. I'm sure they have some great softball games on their 4 fields. I was seriously impressed with all the different areas (you can tell from the road that all of this exists!)!! The one thing that I think others have mentioned, is the upkeep. Perhaps due to funding, it could have more maintenance. Also, there is a recycling drop off in one of the corners off of the softball fields. Cool. Yelp has this location in Ballyntyne, but it's in the South Park area on Park Road, just south of Tyvola/Fairview. read more

Great park. I'm surprised no one has reviewed it on Yelp yet. The park itself is on Park Rd inbetween Archdale and Tyvola/Fairview... right around the corner from Southpark Mall. They park has a great tennis facility with 12 lighted courts and across the road is the main park with basketball courts, horseshoe pits, concession stand, volleyball, picnic shelters, and walking trails. There are also baseball fields and playgrounds for the little ones to go crazy on. I mostly go here for the tennis facility, but have been to some functions that are on the other side. There is ample parking and a lot to do here. read more

Having a dog who never tires of adventures and new places to experience, my boyfriend and I often venture to several parks around Meck County to try them out. Park Road Park was unfortunately a not-so-great decision of ours. This review is simply for the walking trail/pond area. We did not go to any of the courts or play areas. Like said in previous reviews on here, there is ample parking at all separate areas (playground, courts, "trail") so this will not be a problem. The problem comes into play when you take out onto the small trail around the pond. Unfortunately, it is not kept up like it should be. It was speckled with trash, cigarette butts, and most unfortunately a deceased duck that had swarming bugs around it. After we saw this and knew there were several grounds keepers around who either A) did not notice or B) did not care to remove it, we made an about-face and headed back to the car. The pond is also filthy, not your "oh what a pretty pond" experience. The park overall had a dingy, dirty feel to it. There are picnic tables and a couple of shelters for group gatherings. But overall there are much better parks to experience in Charlotte and the surrounding areas. Oh well, we will just chalk this up to living and learning and cross this one off of our list. read more

TENNIS. TENNIS. TENNIS. While I enjoy playing here, I wish the back courts were more level. It seems that the baselines closer to the trees are higher than the other end, so that sucks. And there always seems to be some club or league that hogs most of the courts. It's a nice location though. read more

I can't really speak for the rest of the park, but this place is great for kids! There's 3 playgrounds with space to run around. Love the tots area here for little ones 3 & under! Everything is low to the ground for new walkers, and there's a sandbox too! There's also 2 bigger kids areas with great climbing features. Lots of swings, tables, and ample parking. read more

Did the park come first or the road? I often ponder this question as I make the 2 mile jog along broken sidewalks from home to Park Rd Park. This park is a favorite of the sports leagues in town because it's very well lit and includes baseball diamonds and soccer fields. The park spans over a hundred acres and has playgrounds for kids as well as some tennis and basketball courts, but I haven't utilized these features so I can't comment on their conditions. The soccer fields, that we use to play ultimate on, are in great need of some TLC. Many ankles have been sprained whilst sprinting across these fields. Hopefully the fields will be better maintained with revenue collected from Park and Rec's massive fee increases. Despite some maintenance issues, the park has a great location along Park Rd and is a great place to get your sport on. read more

My office came here for a park outing and I was not very impressed at all. Where to begin?!?!? My mom always says to start with the good...so here goes: there was ample parking for all of us. Yep. That's as good as it gets. The lake/pond was very dirty, the trails and grass were covered with doggie "fertilizer" and the bathrooms were just bad. no complaints here. I go to Park Road Park for two reasons: softball or basketball. It's the closest park to me so I might be a little biased, but I don't have any complaints. There's plenty of parking and it's quite huge altogether. You can find space to play. It seems pretty well-maintained. There are plenty of rims at the basketball court. I've driven by the tennis courts too. The Kids play area doesn't apply to me, so I can't really comment on it. The bar is pretty low for me. I've been to Revolution Park, Freedom Park and the Hornet's Nest for various softball league games, etc. Park Road Park works for me. Thumbs up! read more
