Bath house near lakefront camping has bathrooms but no shower. The lake front camping spots are gravel and are going to be rough on your tarp/tent/airmattress/feet. Happy Hollow looks fantastic and I definitely would've loved to stay there. They have hook-ups, bathrooms, and showers. There is no longer a playground at happy hallow like it shows on the map and lists on the website. We went to Eva Beach recreation area and there is a playground there but it's about a 12 minute drive from the campgrounds. The recreation area had a sandy beach, but a foul smell and the water was very dirty. There are 2 large factories that make a humming noise that can be heard from the campgrounds and constantly seeing the large plumes of smoke from them on both sides of the lake ruins the nature side of things. The cabins were nice. Lakefront camping spots are not kid friendly - lake on one side and a road that people fly down on the other. I personally wouldn't recommend this park especially for families but if you have to stay here then stay at happy hollow.

This is the most boring state park I've ever been to out of around 25 TN state parks (and several…read morein KY and SC). However, I say this as someone that loves to hike and usually long distances. I drove here from Franklin, TN. The drive is around three hours. It was a bit aggravating as 95% of the way here was one lane roads that will get you stuck behind semis going 15-20 under for 15-20 miles. SR-432 is littered with potholes and desperately needs redone. Also, for reference, it's June and 94 degrees in Greenfield, TN. I chose this state park because it's a hot day and I knew my dog couldn't be out long. It was worth it in a way for me because I'm trying to visit every TN state park ‍ Keep in mind that there are only two trails at this state park, both paved (well one is a boardwalk so wood I guess). I started at the visitor center which was closed and had no posted hours. I noticed the park was pretty empty, only one other car and I didn't end up seeing any people here. I went at 1 pm on a Tuesday for reference. There were some t shirts in the visitor center. If you park at the visitor center and walk behind it towards wooden signage, you will get to the boardwalk trail. There isn't a map of the trail at the start, but there is some history info that's somewhat legible if you can squint past the wealth of bird poop. Once on the wooden boardwalk, it's pretty and well taken care of. There are plenty of spots to sit, but also a million mosquitos so I didn't want to stop moving for long (I forgot to put on bug spray). Just a little bit into the boardwalk there is construction and there weren't any warnings at the beginning that the trail was closed past a certain point. The water around the trees was mostly dried up from the heat so it might be better to go when it's not hot or after a lot of rain. You can hear birds here, but the only wildlife I saw was a small lizard scurrying across the boardwalk. I then went to the picnic area parking and ate lunch. It was a nice little spot to eat lunch and there are tons of benches and tables around this area, some more tucked away. Park bathrooms are so hit or miss, but this bathroom is nice. It looks newly renovated and it was clean and cold inside. I walked the trail after. It wasn't anything too exciting, but it was a storybook trail and the story was legible throughout the entire trail so good for kids. It was more shaded than the boardwalk, but you might find a tick on you after this one. There's a basketball hoop, a playground, and lots of those little park grills. There are paper maps available by the picnic area parking. As for dog friendliness, there aren't poop bags and the refillable dog water bowl is broken and gross. However, there is a faucet next to it with a half broken concrete divot that will hold enough water long enough for your dog to drink water. I would be careful where your dog steps though and don't let them lay down because there's a jagged piece of unmovable mesh wire poking up. There's a little garden, but I will say it's hard to tell what plants are what because there are so many weeds. Overall, an underwhelming state park that you might just have to visit in order to check it off your list.

One of my favorite running paths in the world! When I was a…read morelittle girl this used to be railroad tracks. We would get off the school bus and walk down the tracks to get home. Now it's a clean, shaded walking, running biking path. The city of Clarksville turned the old railroad tracks into a walking path with a bathroom. I usually start at the Mary's Oak parking lot entrance and run to the bathroom. It's exactly 2 miles out. There are clear distance markers along the path. There's another parking lot at the bathroom area. They have bikes you can rent there. I have been down further past the bathrooms and it's absolutely gorgeous that way. A couple of steep hills keep me off that part of the path. Have seen deer, bobcats and tons of birds and squirrels, Sometimes I have found cute painted rocks here as well. Bravo Clarksville!

We stumbled upon the park while driving the Trace and decided to stop for a quick stroll and stretch. We were pleasantly surprised with the immaculate trails (perfect t for walking or running), and the lush greenery that surrounded it. The trails are marked so it's easy to navigate, and you're never too far from the car. As we were walking a light drizzle began and the sound of the wind and the rain falling on the trees was magical. Timberland Park is a place that takes you away from the city and into a world of nature and calm. If we lived here I would frequent the park and run the trails. They also have swings and benches along the way for a rest or a lovely place to sit down and journal or ponder life. The park is very well kept and the ranger does a good job of making sure people know when it's closing time. They have porter potties available if necessary as well. I wish we had more time to explore because I am sure there are wonders throughout the park that I have missed, but maybe I'll discover them next time, Highly recommend Timberland Park for exercise, recreation, personal reflection time, or just a pretty picture.

Johnsonville State Historic Park is situated in Humphreys County, and has over 1000 acres. It has a…read moremuseum, hiking, fishing, picnic tables and grills, and a boat launch. During the Civil War, when the Union and Confederate soldiers were working hard to ruin each others' supply lines, this actually became the site of a Union supply depot. This site was established as a state park in 1971, and is very cool. It's a tribute to the Civil War significance, and there are cannon and cabin replicas. The hiking trails snake around Kentucky Lake, and there is also a Civil War graveyard on site. This is such an amazing, well worth road trip from Nashville.

Kristina was our tour guide, and she was very kind, professional, knowledgeable, and courteous. She provided the children in our group activity groups and provided fascinating information about Native American Indians and the Trail of Tears. She refused money and tips. Instead, she requested that we only sign the guest book. If we liked, we could provide a donation to the Heritage Center. It was an honor to have Kristina as our tour guide and learn more about Native American Indians.

In addition to being the resting place for two Cherokee leaders it was also a winter camp and ration stop along the Trail of Tears and there are benches along the path around the former camp area to take in the surroundings. I needed to use the restroom and I saw the sign for the Paris Landing State Park so we stopped. I am so glad we did. This park is LOVELY!!!!! The waters edge is gorgeous....and there is a swimming beach. Tons of picnic areas with grills and lots of fishing spots...and tons of people fishing. I need to get my fishing license and so does Tony. I want to go back here to swim and picnic this summer once my daughter arrives. There is NO charge..it is all FREE to enjoy!!
