This pertains only to the Riverboat Restaurant.
Date: 24 Jul 16
Time: Noon
Atmosphere: As I understand it, the Riverboat Restaurant is part of the Paris Landing State Park. There is a hotel and cabins that can be rented, as well as boat slips, docks, etc.
We ate at the Riverboat Restaurant which is part of the resort. It is your typical, generic buffet kind of place - vinyl backed chairs, formica-type tables, etc. Carpet was clean as was the rest of the place. Decor was sparse, and the room itself had a very high ceiling, but with nice views of Kentucky Lake through the floor to ceiling windows.
Menu: It was a buffet ... A Sunday Buffet at that, meaning they're trying to get rid of everything they didn't use during the week, which leads me to ...
Food: For the most part, dreadful.
Hot Line - they had horrible vegetables (your usual overcooked green beans, corn out of a can, mashed potatoes out of a box, etc.). Gravy was from a mix or can. The only thing really edible on it was the fried catfish. Fried chicken breasts were only palatable with gravy (which, as noted wasn't good itself). There was a carving station at the end of the line, and one look at the shoe leather they were calling roast beef begged me off of it.
Soup/Salad - Fresh and clean if uninspiring. Shrimp had a very weird texture - kind of spongy. Decent variety, and things were cold. Soup ...
They should have called it "afterthought soup," as there was clearly no inspiration in this. Basically, they took what they had left over and threw it into a soup pot and called it soup. A film of very visible fat covered it, and one look at that precluded even trying it. Mop water looks better.
Desserts - sad, sad, sad. They had slices of meringue topped pies in a rotating cabinet, and they just looked bad. The banana pudding in a hotel pan topped with at least three inches of meringue, though nicely browned wasn't inviting. I opted for the soft serve ice cream. Cones were stale.
Average age of patron in this place from what I could tell was at least 60, if not older. No wonder they cook the *hit out of everything.
Service: Our server was great, not intrusive, kept plates cleared and drinks filled. Overall the high point of our visit.
Bottom Line: They charge $13.95 for this stodge. If I were the Chef, I'd be ashamed of myself. Do yourself a favor and make something at home. It will be cheaper and better. read more
