I was already starting to know, I was in for a good meal. (Later I found out I was wrong, because I had an outstanding meal! ) I tasted all of the meals on the table and they were all sensational. See pics. The service was impeccable. Very attentive and extremely knowledgeable about each dish I asked about. The desserts were to die for. (I ate them too quickly for pics.) My hips will thank them later. I walked past the kitchen on my way out to say thank you to the chef but all I could find back there was a young lady who is young enough to be my daughter. Wow! The chef is young and beautiful and somehow creates these most incredible dishes. She really is a talent. And, she's co-owner. I love that! I urge you to go check this restaurant out. Family owned and operated, each meal is made from only the freshest ingredients and served with a huge smile and a warm, "enjoy!". Prices are reasonable so no need to wait for that special occasion. Although, I know you'll still want to celebrate your special days there. Located right below the theaters, you can make an evening out of it with a movie and a dinner. They are open Tues -Sun. Cheers to you Grimaldi's for raising the bar and giving diners and amazing culinary experience.

Even if you're not there for a night at the movies, this little café really impresses. Though I'm not crazy about its location, right in front of a busy, noisy main road, the café has a spacious and comfortable outdoor area. I've taken a book to this place once or twice and have had a comfortable read whilst seated outside. The interior is well decorated and has warm, earthy tones to compliment the establishment's Italian roots. The menu features many of the classic Italian pizza and pasta selections, as well as creative renditions of other popular main courses. No matter what you go with, you're bound not to be disappointed with your choice. The staff is incredibly friendly and makes you feel very welcome from the moment you take a seat. Good food, great coffee and excellent customer service - Grimaldi's ticks all the boxes.

So, I recommended it for a big friend gathering on a warm Friday night . I have to say - the food was delicious and the service was great. It was a good place to have a big group of people catching up, but I have to agree with the others - the ambiance is somewhat lacking. It was lucky that it was a warm weekend night and there were lots of people in the restaurant, which helped the atmosphere greatly, but the restaurant is essentially one giant room with lots and lots and lots of.... white. The wood oven is still visible in the back, which is a good thing, but it does need some colour and character. However, I really enjoyed the food and the wine and would recommend it for a tasty meal!

That said, a friend of mine used to take all his highschool girlfriends there on first dates (his father ran an account, cheeky boy) and his experiences were always positive too. The atmosphere is intimate and sophisticated without being overdone, the staff are approachable and accomodating and have always provided great assistance when selecting wine. I have been fortunate enough to dine outside in the tiny courtyard which appeals to my love of outdoor dining and also means that you can escape the noise created by fellow diners in a packed restaurant. This space is a little dated and that just increases my love for it even more, it's so comfortable and inviting, providing good, honest Italian fare. Just like Nonna made.

As good as a slice can be, Ambrosinis have been bringing the likes of bresaola, stratcciatella and traditional pasta to their tables for over 20 years. Amabile, patriarch of this cosy cottage eatery, was this year awarded "Individual, Hall of Fame" at Restaurant and Catering SA's Awards for Excellence. Born in an alpine valley of the Lombardy region, he trained in classic European cuisine in St Moritz. He migrated to good ol' Adelaide and now at age 79, heralds three generations at Ambrosini's. Can you imagine it? Three generations of your family working together - in a commercial kitchen! Brava. Dishes are big on flavor while pretty to the eye. Amabile is particular about presentation and passionate about herbs, many from his lovingly tended garden. His Genovese specialty of sautéed, sliced veal in lemon juice, aromats with a basil chiffonade, and rounds out with spinach, pine nuts and pecorino. Speaking of rounding out, it is easy to go the whole nine yards here - antipasto, seafood risotto, roast duck with orange glaze and garlic king prawns with brandy and saffron. The best part? You can feel comfortable enjoying comfort food in comfortable surrounds. Just writing this I feel the need to wipe away from my chin a glorious dribble of the nut brown butter from their homemade gnocchi with sage...mmm.

The Sommelier was Duncan Vent, Front of House d'Arcy Sadler and Mackenzie Sadler and Kitchen Tobias Gush and Ann Oliver. To let you imagine the wonderful menu, it started with a glass of Italian sparkling at the bar, then antipasto of lardo and roasted chestnuts on toasted house-made rye bread washed down with '13 Ermes Pavese Blanc de Morgex se de le Salle. A cabbage soup was next served with rye crostini and Fontina cheese, and the wine '11 Ermes Pavese Le Sette Scalinate Magnum. Next was a cheese fondue with a glass of '13 Elio Ottin Torrette Superieur. Then grilled wild Adelaide Hills porcini with polenta. Absolutely divine with '13 Elio Ottin Pinot Noir. The final savoury dish was panfried milk fed veal filled with Gruyere and sage. A glass of '11 Proprieta Sperino Uvaggio Nebbiolo was the perfect drop to have with this. The dessert was chocolate and hazelnut mousse with nougat gelato and a delicious dessert wine Le Birlou. These special events book out early and is worth every dollar. The waitresses are lovely but green as, but who cares with this guy cooking! Brand new cute traditional Italian. This is a proper little authentic Italian restaurant, not a low grade Italian Cafe like most on the Parade. Other than Ambrosini's this is the only other one in the area and as Ambrosini's is Northern Italian I prefer this place (they do dishes from all over Italy). OK, the photo of the 'Nonna' in the marketing is dressed in an Eastern European outfit and I'm pretty sure the chef wasn't Italian (stop press, he's half Italian) but he was sure trained in Italy as this place is like being in Italy and everything is made from scratch not out of a tin like the cafes on the parade. Beware in winter, kitchen isn't ventilated so when you walk out you smell of amazing food! (In spring the doors open) . They now have a license but you can byo $5 per person. The wine by the glass was good. Great flounder, very nice home made pasta, excellent calamari and finely prepared vegetables.

It was served on crisp crusty bread that wasn't the least bit soggy. Next came the roasted capsicum and mozzarella which was prepared with the right amounts of olive oil and balsamic vinegar - neither overpowered the other, but instead did as intended and complemented. Again, a generous serve. The very best was saved for last! Portobello mushrooms with oooey, gooey cheese!! It was tender, generous, and ah-maz-ing!!! I could have eaten it as my main. Oh yum!! My main of pan seared grouper was a chef's special, it was topped with tomato, spices, and a wonderful white wine and butter sauce. It came with a side of pasta topped with marinara - oh, wow, so tasty!! My friends' enjoyed their mains as well. One had Chicken alla Nonna - chicken breast topped with sautéed eggplant, and copious amounts of melted cheese) it came with a fresh dinner salad, another had the stuffed flounder (spinach) it, too, was so tender and fresh it literally melted in the mouth! Finally we celebrated our discovery with a unique take on tiramisu - thin layers of fresh cake, drizzled with coffee liqueur, fresh cream and beautifully presented. Don't walk, run to this little hidden restaurant on Margaret just off of the Parade.
