Having passed this place pretty much morning noon and night for some time now I've noticed the development and change in the shopfront.
Now it's incarnation as an Italian cafe/pizza/pasta spot finally proved too tempting.
I went in to book a table for the evening, no problem there. However when we arrived the place was full. So, the booking process might need a shake up.
That said, while we were talking to the staff a table became free so we didn't really miss out. They are very popular as being full at 8pm on a Tuesday night would suggest.
We ordered a lasagne and a passed a fish with a garlic bread/pizza.
It's definitely too much. Though we did find room for the bottle of Barbera. Their wine list, though not massive is much larger than you'd expect and has many wines from Italy which we greatly appreciated browsing through.
Hearing Italian spoken naturally by staff and customers made us feel like like a we were on holiday, rather than just around the corner.
The owner (?) came to our table and gave us a post dinner drink. Vecchio Amaro del Capo is a herbal, almost medicinal tasting post dinner digestive. Truely added something to the experience.
We will be back, we were made to feel welcome, and with the food we couldn't eat (and took away with us) the cost of dinner will be spread over two nights making it a bargain. read more
