I was really excited to finally try Daniel's Cheesesteak House after seeing so many positive…read morereviews. Unfortunately, my experience didn't quite live up to the hype, which was disappointing considering how much I was looking forward to trying their cheesesteaks.
I ordered their traditional Philly cheesesteak with extra onions and mushrooms, along with what I believe was a combo that included fries and a drink from their beverage selection.
Unfortunately, when I got home, I realized my fries were completely missing from the order. I'll take some responsibility for not double-checking my bag before leaving, but at the same time, if I'm ordering a combo, I expect all the items I've paid for to be included. It's a simple detail, but one that makes a difference in the overall experience.
As for the cheesesteak itself, I found it surprisingly bland. I was expecting something flavorful and memorable, especially from a restaurant that specializes in cheesesteaks. Instead, it felt like something was missing. Maybe it needed additional seasoning, a little more flavor from the meat, or something to bring everything together. Whatever it was, the sandwich just didn't stand out.
Now, to be fair, I did have approximately a 45-minute drive home before eating my meal, so I'm willing to acknowledge that the time between ordering and eating could have affected the overall quality. Perhaps enjoying it fresh and hot would have made a difference. I'm also open to the possibility that the kitchen was simply having an off day.
The atmosphere is interesting. It's not your typical sit-down restaurant but has more of a neighborhood bodega or convenience-store feel. It's casual and straightforward, without much emphasis on ambiance. They do offer other food options beyond cheesesteaks, which might be worth exploring. However, given the restaurant's name, I specifically came for the Philly cheesesteak.
For a business that puts cheesesteaks front and center, I was hoping for something that would make me want to return. Unfortunately, between the missing fries and the underwhelming flavor, I left feeling like the experience didn't justify the excitement I had going in.
My feedback to management would be to double-check takeout orders before handing them to customers, especially combos, and ensure the cheesesteaks are consistently seasoned and flavorful.
Overall, 3/5 stars. I wouldn't completely rule out giving Daniel's another chance, particularly if I'm in the area and can enjoy the food fresh. However, based on this visit alone, I can't say it's somewhere I'd go out of my way to return to. Hopefully, my experience was just an off day, because I genuinely wanted to love this place!
