Add me to the list of people here who are NOT IMPRESSED with this predatory and inconsiderate builder. I sniffed a bad situation from day one, when they bought the house next door and sold a bill of goods to an unsuspecting couple -- telling them they could build their dream home on a lot that wasn't suited for it. We see a lot of tear downs/rebuild projects in this neighborhood, and as project managers, Paramount has been the least considerate neighbor we've seen. They block our driveway without warning, let debris blow onto our yard, and blare loud music across the neighborhood, often starting before 8am, even on weekends. They let the yard become overgrown and weed infested and didn't mow until we demanded it. They clear cut this huge lot, inexplicably tearing down mature trees that were 50 feet from the house. And while other companies bend over backwards to ingratiate the neighbors, Paramount never so much as introduced themselves or sent over a thank you note, even as the project went over a year past the scheduled completion date. Oh yes -- about that project. It was originally to be 8-10 months but has now been going for 2 years, and isn't close to finished. They promised these poor people that they could build something that was unrealistic and unsuited for the lot, creating erosion problems after clear-cutting the lot that degraded the property and caused mudslides into another neighbor's driveway. I don't know what this is costing the buyers but I wouldn't want to be in their shoes. read more

Yikes I called and spoke to a guy named Rob to see if we could talk about building a home since I had seen some of their properties on Zillow within our range. I wish I never had! I was completely shocked at his tone and overall attitude. Rob was abrasive and rude, I would have absolutely no interest in working with him. I can see why there are bad reviews for this business. For anyone considering using paramount construction for their home build, read EVERY one star review here, have a lawyer review your contract, and do not move forward! Working with them is a nightmare for me and my family and I dont wish it upon anyone. Them building your home is NOT a 12 mo or even 24 month process, there is high turnover with VERY little communication and transparency. read more

We moved into our brand new home built by Paramount 3 mo ago and could not be happier. After our former builder disappeared off the face of the planet, we felt pretty defeated and were thinking to sell or rent out our existing 90 yr old home. Then, as fate would have it, I received an email from Bethesda magazine highlighting Paramount's home plans and decided to give them a call. Immediately, I was impressed with Rob's (owner) warmth, candor, and most importantly, his sense of urgency as we've been wanting to tear down and move into this home since we bought it in 2013. He took me on tours of new homes they've built to get a sense of their craftsmanship and architectural range. Impressed with what we had heard and seen so far, we decided to take a leap of faith and we've never looked back. We first met with the Kevin, the architect, to discuss our vision, and he definitely exceeded our expectations. We had a pretty tight budget, as most people do, and he took care to keep us as close to budget as possible and still give us the design aesthetic we wanted to achieve. In fact, Paramount even offered multiple upgrades for free throughout the construction process, given our budget constraints. For example, as it became more and more apparent that the standard traditionally design baseboards we had selected (because they were within budget) would not match the home as well as the modern clean lined baseboards we had originally wanted, Paramount provided this 3k upgrade for FREE, yes, FREE. Behind door master closet full length mirrors - FREE. Many more that I don't have time to list. During construction, our main POC was Howard, who also has exceeded our expectations. His careful thought, attention to detail, and experience really helped impact the final home layout and practical usability features that we would not have thought of. i.e. aligning basement stairs with hallway, cabinet hinges that don't swing out and hit the other cabinets, etc. Even post construction, he's still assisting us with any small details or issues that may have arisen. Bottom line is, for anyone who's considering building their own home, I would highly recommend Paramount. Everyone there is so kind, patient, and easy to work with that I would not hesitate to hire them again for the next new home we decide to build! read more

Crap customer service and very rude workers. I am a neighbor who is watching a house he constructed with no adherence to county building codes or rules. Regularly working before 7a waking neighbors. Huge illegal dumpster is halfway into the street almost causing a traffic accident. The workers don't care and won't stop working even when asked before 7a on weekdays and before 9a on weekends. Don't work with these unethical people who are a menace to the neighborhood. read more

Robert Maggin and his company are guilty of ELDER HARRASSMENT. We have repeatedly told him to stop his offer letters because they are very upsetting to my mother who has no intention of selling her home. We have made written requests and I personally called his cell phone (number in his offer letter) & he said he would remove her address from his mailing list. Today we got another letter. He is a disrespectful prospector. Update: Mrs. Maggin is now plaguing my mother with letters promoting her real estate business. So they cross-purpose their mailing list. read more

I made an appointment for a 4:30 consultation with Rob Maggin, and he canceled my appointment at the very last minute for someone else, claiming there was a glitch in the system. The least he could have done was contact me earlier in the day to reschedule. I noticed that he checked my LinkedIn profile the morning of my appointment, and it seems to me that he thought I couldn't afford his services based on what he saw on my profile. He called me at 3:50 pm to let me know that my 4:30 appointment would be canceled due to a glitch in his system. During our 10 minute conversation, he paused after he mentioned that the houses start at $1.4 Million, thinking that information would deter me. He clearly made an incorrect assumption based on some information he found on the internet without asking me the questions directly. Bottom line, I believe I was racially profiled, and I recommend that POCs take their business elsewhere as this builder does not want our money. read more

Description Of Work: I paid Paramount to provide architectural drawings for a small pool house. I bought a groupon like promotion where they were to provide very specific things to me: * One exterior elevation drawn to scale -- this is the view when you are standing outside and looking straight at the home (not applicable to interior-only renovations); $500 value * 'As-Built" floor plan of existing areas that would be impacted by the proposed new floor plan; $250 value * One birds-eye view floor plan for each floor of the project; $500 value * Material and product specs for the entire project (so you know what will be needed); $200 value * An exact price for the proposed new home, addition or renovation (not just a guesstimate!); $100 value Member Comments: It took weeks for them to provide me with drawings -- so I received the first three bullet points. But the plans were uninspiring, flat and did not include aspects that I wanted and were essential to the structure (like a way to enclose it in the winter to keep animals out). But they found a way to include totally unnecessary and more expensive elements. My six year old could have created these plans on the computer. They never gave me the material and product specs or an exact price, notwithstanding multiple emails asking for this information. And most insulting was the price they quoted me. It was at least double what all other contractors gave me. Plus, I had contractors provide the same type of drawings for FREE. I really believe they saw my zip code and decided they could take me for a ride and over charge me. They are not responsive and uninspiring. I would not use them for anything. read more

Paramount has done teardowns/mcmansions on several houses on our block, as have other companies. In terms of being considerate of neighbors, they are the worst of all we've seen. Right now there's a crew working inside blasting music that can be heard 75' away in every direction. This is the second day this has gone on for 8 hours. A call to the to the company with a complaint and request to reduce the noise elicited a visit to the site but no change in volume. Neighbors have also complained to government agencies about trash on the site (including food wrappings and used masks), prefab trusses left in the street extending into the travel lane, excessive noise outside of construction hours. That's just on this project; others have seen similar complaints. Some architects who live in the area say they'd recommend other design/build firms based on what they've seen as homes are built. Meanwhile, the original house was demolished around Thanksgiving and this one is still just wood and Tyvek, not even a roof over the Tyvek yet. read more

We worked with Paramount to prospect a lot and build a new home. A few days after moving into our home in 2019, we discovered there was a leak in one of the air conditioning units. Paramount not only prioritized having that fixed immediately that day through their vendor, but coordinated additional service calls the following year when the AC problem persisted. Despite assurances from the vendor, the leak was never fully fixed and we experienced further difficulties this Spring. To compound matters, our latest discovery occurred outside of our warranty for the unit and our house. Paramount stepped in again to advocate for us with the vendor, who insisted that we pay for the repair, and resolved the matter completely at no cost to us - as it should have been given the history. Rob and team again made us a priority despite being outside our warranty and nearly three years after they handed us the keys. read more

They gave me a quote of $700 for the smallest drywall repair known to man. In total it equals to one sheet of drywall. My framer didn't even charge that for bulkhead work and all! I am doing it myself. A total joke! I think that they though since I am a woman I wouldn't know any better. read more

These people are complete frauds. Any buyer or potential buyer or seller in the market beware. Their method is to tell you that they will find you what they want only until the point your ideal house goes on the market and the broker, Lori, doesn't disclose it to you (you'll see it on Redfin)...the reason they do this is because their goal is to find a piece of dirt of old house that is off market that you can overpay on. They get a fee for that then they tell you a dream home can be built within your budget. Far from it. Their idea of your budget and their budget are very far part. They just want profit and aren't looking out for you. Not to mention I walked into many of the properties they have built and they are made with below builder grade materials. I hate to say it, but just very poorly construction. So not only do they intent to hurt you on the price but on the actual construction of your home. These are not good people and it's sad. Please take very large caution if you are considering to work with these people. It's sad to see many of their sites within a 1 mile vicinity of my home. Just means they are scamming a lot of people. read more

VERY unprofessional and unresponsive. Work crews seem to have never done construction work before. Project managers do not return phone calls or emails. It seems that there is no one to escalate any issues to and concerns are ignored because they have "more important issues to attend to." I bought the Service Alley deal that Paramount Construction was offering. When I called to make my appointment with Paramount, the earliest they could come was 3 months out. The day before my appointment, they called to reschedule due to a conflict. In the course of my conversation, I indicated that my plan for construction is preliminary and it would be 6 months before any work would begin. The Paramount representative told me they had plenty of customers that needed work now so they were not interested in working with me. I received a refund. In my opinion, Paramount has a terrible business practice and poor customer service on multiple levels. I wouldn't do business with them, nor would I refer anyone based on my experience. read more

Do NOT buy a house from Paramount Construction. They tell you what you want to hear, but don't deliver. Our house had numerous problems (interior and exterior), and it was nearly impossible to get them to come back to fix anything after we moved in. You can do better. read more

We used Rob and Paramount in our home search a few years ago. We ended up buying an existing home after making Rob join us on 10+ tours of tear downs. Since we used his wife as our realtor there was no cost, even though he spent a ton of time with us. Rob was very friendly and we felt like he took very good care of us. We will definitely contact Rob if we end up building a home in the area. read more

They helped us design our dream home from start to finish. Today was our one year anniversary and they came back for a walk through. Really no major issues throughout the project, and the minor things that came up were taken care of. We chose Paramount because they have you work with a real architect to come up with a custom design, rather than some cookie cutter house. I would recommend them to anyone who is prepared to deal with the complexities of building a new house from scratch. read more

I always try to be fair, and realized this review could use an update. I will note that Paramount never mentioned the ad to me, or asked me to change it. I just want to be a fair Yelper. Rob and his head guy did come personally at the end of my tenancy to make sure all the final repairs were made. Now, I don't know if that was because the following tenants were moving in so they wanted to start on a good note, but they didn't really have any incentive to work with us since we were leaving, so I appreciate that they were trying to fix everything before we left so our last couple of months were comfortable. I did leave on good terms in the end. I also am friends with the tenant family that moved in after we did, and so far Paramount has been pretty responsive. So maybe my review did the trick. Anyway, if you are their tenant, I would just be persistent, but they do eventually get to things. read more
