The worst kabob ever. Ordered a chicken breast kabob. The meat wasn't seasoned. Bare chicken. The meat was boiled prior to grilling to save time. Took all the flavor away. The meat was tough and dry. Bec. It was made with frozen chicken instead of fresh chicken. Lol. Cucumber & Tomato salad should be called just Cucumber salad. No Tomatos. Cheap owner. The owner charges $1. Service charge when paying with a credit card. The lunch was $12+$1. Service charge. +$1.20 tax. =$14.20 for a simple lunch!!!! Go elsewhere. I don't think the owner or the cooks are Iranian/Persian, because this is not how their food is supposed to taste. Not only does the food taste terrible, but the people that work their are very rude. I ordered grilled fish and they sent me stew. I called to inform the restaurant and the man who picked up the phone got upset, saying he doesn't believe me. Then he hung up on me. The rice had a very foul odor and the fish looked like jerky. The texture was off and the flavor tasted like a cross between salty vomit and rancid lemon juice. People who actually know what Persian kebab/food should taste like would know that this is not an acceptable restaurant to order food from. This is my first and last time I will order "food" from this place. Hopefully, the people who unfortunately get food from don't discover real Iranian food, or else you guys will really go out of business. read more

I just learned not to chose a place on by the stars. I was looking for a Kebab place as I was in that area, I saw the reviews and it didn't catch my attention at first because it had 3.5 stars, I decided to read the reviews. And I started reading de first one, I said enough I love what the review state and dito, is a whole in the wall. I decided to try it my self. I'm amaze on the taste of my chicken kebab #3. Besides that is an old building the restaurant is very clean, Mr. Santos is a very humble and well manner man, funny. And the food was amazing that I had a plate there and I had to make another order o go. I want to share it with my family and advertiser this restauran more. I was please and prices were reasonable for the amount of delicious food I got. I highly recommend and please follow your instincts not a number. The person that would not give me his name was so rude, he claims he has been doing this for forty years, even if he was right which he wasn't you do as your asked. Well I'm a Persian girl and I don't usually eat meat but when I do, it's usually kabob that my dad makes. Last night my boyfriend and I stopped in for some takeout kabob because we were hungry and this place was open. We got two skewers of koobideh and a side of mast o khiar and DUDE, SO GOOD! The koobideh had the perfect blend of turmeric, onion, and salt. It had the perfect percentage of fat content so it was fluffy and soooo juicy. I was so impressed and out of all the places I've gotten koobideh so far in LA, this is the best. The mast o khiar was also bomb.com and I licked the takeout bowl clean. Then I took two lactaid pills :) worth it I think you should disregard the current rating status of this place and try it. Really bummed about what happened here! I ordered through grubhub/yelp for a takeout order this Mother's Day. Understandably it's busy and it seemed that the owner was working with only one other person. I made a semi large order for my family an hour ahead, when I arrived the app told me it had just been received... okay. So I proceed to wait another 40 minutes outside. Yelp tells me the order is done! I come inside, show the owner my phone. He looks confused and states he "never received anything, come check my tablet for yourself" I show him that I paid for my food already and have been waiting now almost 2 hours. He just shrugged his shoulders and said sorry he's had a lot of orders being made and mine isn't one of them. He didn't seem all that inclined to make my food after he learned that I had already paid either. I left really irritated I paid to wait 2 hours for nothing and now have to make a dispute via grubhub to get my $50 back Long story short! Call ahead on the phone because he doesn't seem all too concerned with his online orders! I'm sure the food is tasty but the experience left a bad taste in my mouth read more

AMAZING FOOD!!! Excellent!!! Some of the best Middle Eastern food I have had in Los Angeles. The prices are affordable...way below any prices at any Indian restaurant I have seen!! You can get a combo kebab plate with saffron rice for $10 ($8.50 on Mondays and Wednesdays). And they give you free pita bread, humus, and some type of cilantro topping. The food is very flavorful and the portion size is very filling (unlike most Indian restaurants that give you scrapes for twice the price). The owner is Mexican (go figure), but he has mastered Middle Eastern food more than Middle Easterners! The owner is also super nice! This place is NOT chintzy and they really care about their customers. Usually the place is not even crowded...I guess word has not gotten out enough. YOU MUST CHECK THIS PLACE OUT!!! read more

I implore my fellow Yelpers to go in and give Paraiso a try. I've tried a number of things and all of them have been excellent. The surprise favorite has been the cornish game hen kebab. The gentlemen that runs it cuts it into eight pieces and its marinated in something that is makes it utterly amazing. The othe meats have been awesome as well. The entrees he makes come with a giant pile of basmati rice that is wonderfully flavored and seasoned. He also gives you a grilled tomato and a green chile. We've gotten take out and he's also given us a seasoning (the name of which is escaping me at the moment), but it is great on the rice. The yogurt & cucumber dip, hummus, grape leaves and eggplant dip are excellent accompaniments if you are REALLY hungry or you want to set aside some for left overs. The kebabs are made to order and have always been moist and tender and really tasty. Honestly, if you are in the Van Nuys area, I suggest you try this place first. If you've been to other places, give this place a try. I'd almost be willing to bet you'd like Paraiso at least as well and their prices are really competitive. read more

Went there for lunch. Found hair in my lunch plate when she brought it out. Pointed this out and the server just took the hair out in front of me and flicked it on the floor with a expected look like "you should still eat it." When requested for a new plate of food, she took it back and returned with what was obviously the same plate of food that had the hair on it (you can't make all that in 2 minutes). Nevertheless, I still ate it b/c I was starving and had to go back to the office. Later, when I went to pay with my colleague, they charged $1.00 for credit card transaction - which is a bit unreasonable. Even when we pointed out the hair aggression, they weren't too apologetic about it. The only saving grace was that the actual food was somewhat decent (albeit the hair incident). Wow. Ordered the kebab combo which is kubideh beef and kubideh chicken as well as the shallot yogurt and both were absolutely horrible. Chicken was burnt to a crisp and also didn't even taste like chicken, actually had the texture of scrambled eggs in a burnt casing which was really really really weird. Shallot yogurt was so salty I couldn't even finish it. Wanted to give this place a shot cause I love Persian food but NEVER AGAIN. I get that $11 is low for a kebab combo plate, but how do you mess up ground meat ? I ended up just eating the rice with butter and the beef kubideh. These people need to set themselves to a higher standard. Literally the only value here is the cheap beverages. One starts to wonder if the Owner/mgmt/chef is even Iranian themselves. This is a decent place for Persian food. It is pretty much a one man show. The owner is the cook and waiter. The food is very tasty at a very reasonable price. It is usuaslly not too crowded. I recommend this place as the atmosphere is nice and informal. There is a large parking lot. The portions are big and you might have take home for lunch tommorow. read more
