Took my kids to do a trial. The coaches here are really nice. They do gi and no gi. They also have muay thai. They always end with some games and will be great for beginners looking to try bjj for the first time, especially younger kids. Starting Brazilian jiu-jitsu as an adult is pretty intimidating, but my experience at Paragon has been awesome and I wish I'd started training much sooner. The instructors are extremely knowledgeable and the classes are run in a way that allows people to train seriously but without being too overwhelming to newbies like me. They've created an atmosphere where the training is intense, but everyone checks their ego at the door and both the instructors and students seem interested in helping everyone progress and get better together. If you're interested at all in learning BJJ, do yourself a favor and give it a shot. read more

My Jiu-jitsu has seen immense growth at Paragon, especially under Neil Torrey at his 6am classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. His even-tempered approach in teaching the art has been both positive and supportive. He will patiently critique you when needed and at the same time feel fulfillment when you succeed. When I do get the chance to train with some of the other instructors such as Beefcake, Edgar, and Justin, I have only had positive experience with them as well. I just recently started a training program with Watts MMA. They have a very friendly and patient. As a newbie to this at age 47 I was a little reluctant to take on such a program. The training is great and each workout I feel stronger and my stamina improves. I also have observed their children's classes, since I have two young daughters that I would like to get started and they are awesome. The instructors are very patient and engaged. It is a serious sport and the training and workouts are challenging, however, from the owner to the newest instructor, they are total professionals and make you feel welcome and at ease. Come to class with a water bottle and a clean gi and have a blast. You will not be disappointed and from the faces on the kids I see training you can tell they are gaining confidence and some serious skills. The only concern I have is that the classes are growing and I think they may need to add more classes. The word is out and they have a solid reputation. Give it a try, you will feel great. read more

My son is loving his Monday and Wednesday classes. Everyone there is so friendly and welcoming he took to it right away. My son loves his jujitsu class at watts Brazilian jiu-jitsu. what we like about this gym is that the offer classes for toddlers. Their staff is very knowledgeable and they are really good with the kids. After years of getting dragged down by wrestlers and judokas, my candy tae kwon do ass could sneak in a few strikes before getting dominated. I realized that most fights will end up on the floor in one way or another, and being exposed to ER thugs and drunks, along with getting fat, I had to do something. After research everywhere within 25 miles of my work, Watts MMA (back then, Simi Valley Jiu Jitsu) was the only school that called me back, answered all my questions, and didn't treat me like I was in boot camp. All the guys there treated me with a lot of respect and were eager to teach me anything I could possibly ask. My search ended right there. KIDS CLASS!! FUN, FUN! I have been going here to the kids class for almost a year. I checked out about 6 other schools in the surrounding area before signing up with this one. I really liked that there was a wide variety of different ages, sizes, and experiences of other kids to grapple with. In some of the other places that I visited there were NOT a lot of variety of kids/choices, so grappling was not a challenge. I have been in martial arts for over 5 years, so I can tell you that these instructors are very patient compared to the ones that I have had in the past. Their knowledge has helped me with winning in competitions and I look forward to growing and learning more with this school in years to come. read more

This review is way overdue. Going to a new Jiu Jitsu school can bring fear like starting anything else new. This was not the case with Watts. From the moment I walked in I was welcomed with open arms. Having been a to couple different schools in the past you quickly realize that each school has a unique vibe to it. The vibe at Watts was one of family and the want to get better as a school in Jiu Jitsu. There were no egos or crazy higher ranking belts who were just looking to destroy a new white belt. Dion, the head professor and instructor makes sure that all egos are left at the door and that classes are conducted in a safe manner. The classes offer a mix of skill levels and physical sizes, as far as I know it's the only school the area that has a daily morning class. I'm glad to call Watts Bjj my school but even happier to call them my Watts Family! read more

My daughters have been going to Watts for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for about a month and a half. The staff and the other clients were very welcoming and patient with my kids from the very first day. The gym is large and the class sizes are small so they are moving the whole time, not waiting around for their turn, like we experienced in other gyms. It is a family friendly atmosphere, but they will help you to get ready for competitions if that is your goal. Dion is very good also at explaining pros/cons for different takedowns, whether it's on the street or in a competition. And he makes it clear that fights should always be avoided if possible. I've been coming to Watts MMA for over a year now and i've been very impressed. Very large studio, wrestling mats, jiu jitsu mats, multiple kicking bags for Muy Thai, big mirror to focus on technique. The one thing that I love is they continually update and upgrade the studio. I have been training at watts for a few months and I'm posting this review because of something that happened a few days ago. No matter what class you take here you will feel close to the people you're with. Theres no egos and you will feel completely comfortable the moment you walk in. My son also has been going here to the Funjitsu class which is for kids aged 3-6 yrs old. For parents that want your kids in a martial arts school I can guarentee there will be no better than this one. My wife has been taking my son and I saw the instructor tara in the adult class so I started asking questions about him and how hes doing. A few questions in she got suspicious and super defensive of him because she didn't realize I was his father. She started asking how I knew him and pretty much why am I asking about him. It was a little funny, but it made me feel good cause I know if I'm not there that there will be a good person that cares and looks out for my son and the rest of the kids as well. If you're thinking about taking classes or you want your child in some sort of extra curricular activity I couldn't recommend this place enough. They will have fun, they will make friends, they will learn self defense that actually works, and they will be taught by people that actually care about them. read more

When you go to Watts, it feels like you are part of a family. Rhona and Dion are so kind and easy to work with. My daughter went for about a year. I loved the instructors, especially that there were women in instruction. Rhona one of the owners teaches and some of the older girls assist with instruction. It was so nice to see women in a strong athletic role. They were firm but kind with her, they taught respect and discipline along with skill. I really wish my kiddo stayed with it but it just wasnt for her. If you're looking for a great place to participate in a martial arts family, I just dont think you will find better. read more
