Me and my family love this place!!! This is truly a Martial Arts Academy, many different styles mixed into one amazing school. Guru Rene (Owner/Instructor) is an amazing man, he is so knowledgeable he trained under the infamous "Dan Insosanto" (who was Bruce Lee's friend and training partner). He is so good with all of the children and adults that attend his academy, I think of him as a gentle giant. So kind/respectful but firm and everyone respects him. He takes the time to get to know every single student and they all love him like family!! His academy offers so much more then any other gym that I have been to... I stumbled on the Martial Motion Academy purely accidental while I was exercising at what is commonly known as Lemon Park. For weeks I had notice the class, and it caught my attention. I finally walked over to inquire as to what this was all about. I received a very warm welcome from the instructors, and the students in attendance. Now, I'm 63 and have never done anything like this before. Although I have played other sports most of my life. I'm at a point in my life that I need to really find something mentally and physically challenging, but at the same time I needed it to be fun and safe. I am completely hooked on this and look forward to every class. I'm not what I was 20 or 30 years ago. But with the help and patience of the instructors, and the other students, I am already seeing positive benefits in just a few months of this training. I have learned so much about how to keep myself safe, and things I can do to keep my family safe. Every class day you review what was done in a previous class, then go on to something new. At no time have I ever been hurt or even injured. Safety is the number one priority, and techniques are adjusted to your individual needs. This is truly a different way of Martial Arts training. I'm not off somewhere to the side all alone doing some kind of form or Kata, or doing hundreds of punches and kicks in to the air. There is always someone working with me, which is what I need to succeed. Everything that I have learned so far is real world situations that anyone of us could find ourselves in. Even though I'm very new at this, I do have an increased confidence level with the new skills I now have. But I do have a long way to go, and I am looking very forward to that journey. I turned 40 last year and thanks to Guru Renee and all the helpful students at Martial Motion Academy my mind and body are more than ready for the next 40 years. I searched all through Simi Valley and the valley for a place that I could open the door, for my 9 year old boy, to mixed martial arts. Through my search I found it difficult to find a place that held respect, disipline, structure and a teaching of a practical art that can be used in a real self defense situation. Not only did we find all that in Martial Motion Academy but Guru Renee has also given our son that special bond I always imagined a student and his Guru having. After my first visit to an adult class I knew I too had to be a part of Guru Renees' program. I was hesitant to join at first due to a back injury that has left me bed ridden for a week at a time. Now, I only wish I would of found Guru Renee earlier. He really focuses on the word motion, that is in his schools name, and he has started to re teach my body the simple body movements and mechanics I neglected for so long. I have been training with Rene (Owner/Head Instructor) on and off for some time now before his school officially opened. Without being bias, I have had the experience to train with other instructors at other gyms before but Rene's demeanor with his students and methods of teaching stand out. He welcomes students from different skill /age levels, men, women & children. Here, you won't ever feel like you are just a number at some mcdojo. Egos are also checked at the door. I think I've found the martial arts gym that I want to plant myself in and grow. I also want to mention that the system is very well-rounded. Training under the infamous Dan Insosanto, Rene has much to offer as he is experienced in many fighting styles. Guru Rene has a teaching rank(Black Belt) in Kali, Silat, Hapkido, and Jun Fan Gung Fu (which people just refer it to as JKD, which is Bruce Lee's own self expression through Jun Fan Gung Fu).
