The entire building exudes a sense of adventure, with its impressive size and exciting hunting decor and waterfall makes it feel like stepping into the great outdoors. I was amazed by the wide range of products they carry, from cart hart to north face to ray ban. We decided that I needed a new fishing pool for offshore fishing. We found a fantastic deal on one, and we also got a great deal on a fishing license. The service provided was exceptional and courteous. I'll be coming back here again and again to explore what other products they have that will enhance my next fishing adventure.

Cabela's is a wonderland our outdoorsy fun/games/sportsmanship…read more Are you hunter? Gatherer? Fisher? Archer? Kayaker? Backpaker? Anything Elserer? Chances are they're going to have what you're looking for, and more than likely in stock. There are other outdoor lifestyle chains out there, but none that measure up to the outdoor/wilderness environment that Cabela's has. From its rustic, natural(ish) décor to the outdoor displays to wildlife exhibits, you really do get that "I feel like I'm out in the woods" vibe. While I've always been a fan of Cabela's, this summer we found that they carry my absolute favorite line of bird seed. I'm a birder and feed 6 to 8 different types of feed in my back year nearly year round, and the fact that they have my favorite brand (Harvest brand bird feeds), but A) in multiple varieties and 2) IN STOCK immediately made this my go-to place when I need bird seed. We used to have to visit 3 or more retail outlets to find what I needed, but not any more. This has got to be one of the largest Cabela's in existence. Seriously. I've been to a number of them but this one just seems ENORMOUS. It's also got an absolutely beautiful 'front door' that can be seen from the expressway nearby. As I wandered around trying to find my bird seed (it literally took me over 10 minutes) I passed a number of staff members helping others and stocking shelves. OH...and an aquarium. There's a freakin' AQUARIUM in this Cabela's. As if the animals and all the outdoor displays aren't enough, they add an aquarium.

Obviously cheaper if you decide to become a member or BYO guns/ammo. - Range is spacious and the clubhouse is clean. FYI this is a trap-ONLY range, so if you're not shooting shotguns, look elsewhere. But a very fun time even if you're new to shooting. Will definitely be back!

Up until I had…read moremy forensic pathology lecture and witnessed some seriously mentally disturbing pictures that will assuredly make you hate humanity. That's when I witnessed the awesome power of what a shotgun can do to a person. I assure you, it was disgusting as much as it was fascinating. Well, I come from a gun-toting family. My mother can bust ass with a 45-magnum, and my sister could probably make a career as a professional sniper. For the longest time, they thought I was adopted because I had absolutely no interest in guns. After school was over, I decided it was time. IT WAS AWESOME. My axilla are bruised (both! learned that although I'm right handed, I'm a lefty shot). I had a teenager help me out since it was my first time. I yelped my first shot (and not in the usual yelp-kinda way). Since I'm a girl and it was my first time, I got 2 boxes of shot free. Normally $3 a box. 100 shots = $30 = better way of spending 1.5 hours of entertainment than in the casino, and way more rewarding, I assure you. They will lend you the gun, ear protection, eye protection. Ask for David, the young lad who helped me out. Given the popularity of hunting, fishing, camping, backpacking, and other outdoor activities is…read moreMichigan, you'd think there'd be more stores catering to these activities in South Oakland county, but the number has shrunk over the years. There's a Cabelas over by Selfridge, and a Bass Pro Sports up in Auburn Hills, but this is the only big outdoors store within 30miles of me. (I don't count Dunhams, which caters mainly to team sport activities.) Sportsman's Warehouse is the only big box store in the area that caters to traditional outdoor activities, and while it's no Cabelas, it's not bad. The archery selection is fair if you're a fan of compound bows or crossbows, but the last time I looked that had on,y two recurves or longbows. There's a lot of fishing gear for fans of spinning and bait casting, but not a lot of quality fly fishing gear. Selection in most departments is a lot narrower than you'll find at Cabelas, and not all sizes are in stock. Several times I've gone there looking for shoes and boots but couldn't find any 12s in what I was looking for. I went looking for a range bag a while ago and found just a handful of bags. The firearms selection is decent if you're looking for a 9mm auto or an AR clone, but you won't see a wide range of .22 rifles or pistols. The reloading equipment section is very thin, with only a handful of powders, cases, and bullets. Ammunition selection is wide in areas like 9mm and .223, but thinner in other areas. The .22RF selection is a seemingly random selection that changes, probably depending on what available. Still, I do visit regularly, and sometimes find good deals. I picked up a Frog Togs rain jacket that was on sale not long ago, and sometimes you'll see something interesting in the used firearms section. If you don't have a regular sporting goods store nearby, and you do t want to make a long trek to Cabelas, it's a hand place for many supplies.
