What a coincidence I was traveling to Barcelona and I read an article about the world's best bar list and Paradise was number one this year. It took more than one try for but finally we could get in. They have an online queue, so plan on spending some time in the area for shopping or a meal. The place is very small and cozy, very nice old cover music , with a very good ambience. The staff are very welcoming and the service is first clase. The menu is right on point , no too long, not to short and very tempting drinks descriptions. But Why are you going to a cocktail bar? Everyone would agree : to have a buzz with tasty drinks!! Drinks have an out of this world presentation, which is very admirable, but when I go to the bar , I would like to remember the bar for their good drinks and not for the presentation . Top 50 bars in the world! An absolute must in Barcelona. Pro-tip: arrive AT LEAST 30 minutes prior to opening time. A line does form and because of limited tables and bar seating, they won't accept customers once they're full (of course, seats will open up as the night progresses so you can keep trying even if you can't make it prior to opening). I ordered: THE CLOUD This is a fun drink with a coffee bubble cloud on top. Eat it right away! The drink itself is fruity and balanced. MEDITERRANEAN TREASURE I got this drink because of its presentation and because I'm a sucker for egg whites. I loved the conch glass, and the salt rim didn't add too much salt flavor to the drink. You don't get to be a top 50 bar in the world (#37 in 2019) by accident! Enter through the fake freezer door, part the red velvet curtain and you are transported into a casual, classy, sophisticated speakeasy that almost feels "tiki-like" the further back you go. Personally, I'd recommend sitting at the bar where you can meet new friends and watch the bartenders (truly mixology artists) do their thing. The drink menu is interesting--visually and for the content. Make sure you use the blue and red glass plates they provide to see the hidden wonders in the menu. The drinks are wildly creative as are the glasses and other containers in which they are served. Order the Magic Wizard and it's served in a black top hat. Others come in a trojan horse, a mini-hot air balloon and even a crystal skull. Didn't try any of the food so can't comment other than to say it looked like pretty good bar food. The drinks were as amazing as they looked. Highly recommend visiting this bar at least once when you're in Barcelona. read more

This was an amazing experience! The drinks were reasonably priced for the drink experience that each drink comes with. The staff was very friendly and we loved our drinks. Just be aware that you might have to wait a long time depending on the day! We went on a Thursday arrived at 8 pm and signed up for the que and didn't get seated inside until about 3 hours later. But I have had friends who went on a Tuesday at 7:00 pm and only waited 40 minutes so it really can depend. Definitely plan accordingly and it's a good experience! read more

Checked this bar out because it was really high ranked. There will usually be a long wait but it's cool for the experience. It is VERY gimmicky, starting from the moment you walk in. The most whimsical speakeasy I've been to. Located in the Gothic Quarter, this place is the spot to be on the weekends. The main entrance is a fridge door that is located in a restaurant. Once you're inside, there are seats at the bar and more tables in the back of the space. I arrived right away when they opened that evening. I thought to myself that I could just breeze in and no one would be there early but that was not the case.The space was nearly packed but I lucked out and got a seat by the bar. Since the space is very dark inside, they have menus that have lights up and I thought that was such a brilliant idea. The server was very nice and attentive, she kept coming back to check in every now and then. Great customer service! I ordered the Mediterranean Treasure and I was blown away by the presentation! The drink was in a sea shell, inside a smoked treasure box. The drink was creamy but light. It had a very nice smoked aroma and the salt flakes, on the rim, was a very excellent touch. I ordered the Caballo Del Troya next. This drink came in a wooden toy horse! It was so over the top but I loved it. If you pull the tail up, you will find a capsule and that was where the drink was. It was more alcohol-forward than the Mediterranean Treasure. It was a balanced drink with great flavors. Not too strong or too sweet. Overall, I was very impressed through out my entire experience. If I had to pick only one place to recommend in Barcelona this would be it. There was a 15-20 minute wait at about 11PM on a weekday, but absolutely worth even a more significant wait. One you enter the "hidden" bar you're instantly greeted by a host and taken to a table/counter. Menus followed and drink orders were taken just a moment or two later. The menu is incredibly diverse and is sure to have something for everyone. We were seated near the bar and were able to watch the bartenders carefully craft each drink and place them into their specific vessel. We shared 3 drinks- my favorite being the great gatsby, but all were lovely. 10/10 you must stop here! read more

So Paradiso is rated as one of the top bars in the world... so I had high hopes. We got in after about a 25 minute wait. It was super crowded, so I'm not sure where they stand on COVID safety. They have an enormous menu that may be overwhelming when deciding on a drink. It might also be good for you to know that they have some really bad drinks and some really good drinks. After trying about half the cocktails here, my favorites are Big Bang, Sea Heart, and Parallel World. We attempted to come the evening before, but time was not in our favor as the line to get in would have taken 2 hours. This is not a place to get a drink. This is a place to be entertained. You wait outside a pastrami shop. The wait was more than 15 minutes but more than worth the wait. Once in (going through a refrigerator door!), we sat at the bar and enjoyed watching the bartenders make the various drinks. They looked like they had a good time as well! We had to come here during our vacation in Barcelona since it was rated the #1 bar in the world. We showed up around 9pm and the virtual queue was close. We were told it's likely it will not be open today, but we could try again later if we would like. We came back around 1030 and the queue was open again and we were able to join. We waited for about 30 minutes at another bar then got seated. When walking in the bartenders all greeted us by chanting and we were amazed by the decorations. The vibe was amazing and we were impressed right away. Our waitress was very nice and patient with us as we were struggling to choose drinks because there were a decent amount to choose from. We ended up getting the cloud, the voyager, and the great gatsby. The drinks were presented very uniquely, aside from that though there was nothing special about how they tasted. To our surprise, for being the #1 rated bar, we expected our bill to be a lot more than it was, which was a nice surprise. Would I call this the best bar in the world, I'm not too sure about that but it is definitely worth a visit if you are in Barcelona! read more

This place was hilarious and fantastic. I am not posting any of the photos we took because the presentation should be a surprise as that is part of the fun (there are enough examples posted already). It is crazy inventive, unique, fun, and everyone in the place is spying other tables to figure out which cocktail another table received so they can order another round. Went in the early afternoon and scanned the QR code about 10 minutes after opening on a Sunday. Waited 30 minutes for a text that our table was ready and were able to find a spot to sit for a snack nearby to kill time. We felt it was worth a visit as it was unlike anything we experienced before. Service and menu are multilingual, they list any potential allergens on the menu, and cocktail list is extensive. I am sure some folks will think Paradiso is "gimmicky" but it is a memorable experience. So glad we got to try it out! read more

I had such high hopes coming to this bar considering it is the top 19 in the world, unfortunately I left unsatisfied. It was a cool experience, however in no way was it worth the wait. My boyfriend and I came at about 11 pm on a Saturday night and the line was through the door. We waited for about an hour and since the line barely moved we decided to come back the next day right before they open at 5 pm. There was only one group ahead of us at that point and they didn't even open the doors to let people in until 5:20. So finally after being opened for 20 minutes, they decide to let people inside, and they did not allow me to come in because I didn't have a mask. In my opinion that was terrible customer service and also quite ridiculous to not be let in because I couldn't walk in the door with a mask. Once you're at the table (which all tables are close together by the way) so there was literally zero logic to that. I had to go across the street to buy a mask. Upon finally entering, the interior really was beautiful! My boyfriend and I ordered our drinks, which we both didn't enjoy. It's fair to say we just didn't try the right things. We ended up spending less time in the bar than we did waiting in the line to get in. Went here with some friends while visiting Barcelona. Walking in looks like a store front with an old school freezer door. Once you open that freezer door you are transported to another part in time! The bar decor is gorgeous! The menu glowed in the dark and featured a lot of whimsical drinks. I only wished that they offered more food options... After we drink we were invited to another part of the bar. The waitress escorted us to what looked like a tiny bathroom. In the bathroom she opened the hand sanitizer and entered a secret code at which point the wall with the sink opened into another bar area! Super cool! Very fun and interesting speakeasy hidden away behind a refrigerator from a pastrami shop. I would have never spotted this place if there wasn't already a long queue to enter. The line moved fairly quick and I was in after about 20 minutes. I sat right at the bar and had a front row seat to all the action. They have a great selection of cocktails but as a first timer, I went for some of the more interesting, photo worthy drinks. Mediterranean Treasure. Served in a conch shell placed in a wooden treasure box. Ketel One based drink served with an oyster leaf (really has an oyster after taste) and smoked with rosemary and thyme. The Great Gastby. Macallan amber based drink served with manchego cheese. Smoked in a glass contraption with vanilla and chocolate tobacco. Such a cool experience! It's neat that they pose as a pastrami shop (although the line out the door is a bit of a giveaway now). I did see a family with kids sit down outside thinking it was just a sandwich shop and they were able to order the snacks that Paradiso served. We loved sitting at the bar though, watching the bartenders make various drinks was a really special experience. The whole atmosphere was fun and we had a great time. We got the tornado, martini with super chilled water, and the aurora. The martini was a bit strong but presentation was so cool since they made a mini iceberg in the glass using super chilled water. My husband and I were lucky enough to travel to Spain (he's a citizen) in March of 2021. Paradiso was open, but only for takeout. We grabbed a few cocktails one evening while doing some wandering around the neighborhood and really enjoyed them. Despite the pandemic regulations there was a decent sized crowd outside hanging out and having drinks. I wish we would be able to see the place in all its glory (you definitely don't get the same experience as being able to sit down inside) but it was still super fun none the less and the drinks were solid! read more

This place is really cute. Go behind the "freezer doors" and there it is. The bartenders were very attentive and hilarious. They seemed to be really enjoyng their work and each other. I got an Into the Woods. It came on a log with actually ants Haha. Which the bartender suggested I try- not bad! My drink was very strong and had an ok flavor. I felt overall this place was big on kitsch and price but not a place I'd come for more than a drink, maybe two. Although the food looked good. On my recent trip to Europe, I made it a point to visit as many speakeasies as possible. Paradiso was the winner for the best one I visited. The ambiance is awesome, the menus resemble iPads but not really (you'll see), the drinks are solid (however, not as good as other speakeasies I've gone to), and my bartender was mega nice (Raquel). It was my husband's birthday and she made him a "cake" with two shots and some chocolate butterflies. Absolutely beautiful (see pics). What a nice surprise! Overall, this tops my list for best speakeasy (overall) I've ever been to and I've gone to over 20 in the world. I loved it. The only suggestion I have: improve your old fashioned. Nice speakeasy behind the refrigerator in a little deli/pastrami shop storefront. Just walking by, you'd wonder why there is a line of people in front of a shop that seems to have just a little counter and no place to sit! The bar itself isn't that large, so I'd recommend not showing up with a group larger than 4 people, or, if you do, split into smaller parties -- you might move through the line faster, although, you may not get to sit together once you're inside. They have some really interesting drinks, including one that is served inside a horse statue (yes, it's name is the "TROY HORSE"), one that is served inside a glass shaped like a bird (you drink out of its rear end, which we all thought was a bit disturbing) and another that arrives inside a jar that has been filled with smoke (they lift the lid of the jar to let the smoke out and present your drink from the tray) -- I think this was the GREAT GATSBY. If I remember correctly, the "SUPERCOOL MARTINI" had a very interesting presentation, specifically with the ice. They really focus on the craftsmanship and the presentation here, so don't just come in and order a neat Scotch... like some other reviewers indicated, this is not a place to "get a drink" ... you come here for the experience. If you're with a group, see if you can each order a different drink. This ensures that you receive multiple experiences... not something that I thought about until after we'd been there. It was a "duh!" moment, but our group was large enough that we only had a couple of duplicates. The drinks are not inexpensive: 10-12€ each, with an average around 11€. Some of the non-alcoholic drinks are 7-8€ We came here and had one drink to check the place out before heading to dinner. It would have been nice to spend a little more time, but we had a reservation and a group to meet. Because of that, we didn't try any of the food, so I can't comment there. I suspect that the contents of the menu rotates fairly frequently to keep things fresh, although there are probably some favorites that stick around. Don't be disappointed if the cool drink from the photo or review is not available when you go. Odds are good that they have something new that is at least as cool. read more

Pastrami & Speakeasy! Very cool eclectic place in Barcelona's Gothic District. The storefront is an actual working deli by day. But you enter the speakeasy at night via the old fashioned refrigerator door! It opens up to a small narrow bar space, that's comfy cool with awesome wood slatted ceiling and friendly mixologists behind the bar. They do serve food...and I got their famous pastrami plate. I recommend going a bit early as they usually fill to capacity and then you have to wait in line until people leave. Great place to meet pals for a cocktail after dinner. read more

However the wait times here can be really really long. I'm certain they keep a line waiting outside just to create a buzz around the place. We were two people standing first in line and I saw at least 12 people exit the bar before the bouncer finally let just 2 of us in. Signs up to a BS wine, waited for an hour and a half, never got a text to confirm, waited another hour, they let people in front of me who had just arrived, it was clear that because I was by myself that they didn't wanna put me at a table. We came for the pastrami but left a bit disappointed. The pastrami platter looked fabulous - it was basically a deconstructed pastrami sandwich which I prefer so every bite can be custom made.. Everything else on the platter was good but I thought the pastrami was undercooked and just had way too much liquid smoke! It was the smokiest meat I've eaten in a long time! Same goes for the butter.. The potato chips were okay.. The old bay seasoning made it a perfect salty spicy pairing to a cold glass of beer. Theres's seating outside so bring your pooch.. I couldn't have dreamed this place up. Some of my favorite things: fun cocktails, pastrami sandwiches, and things hidden in plain sight. With Paradiso, you get all of it. You can tell it's a bit of a tourist hot spot, but our Barcelona native host found out about Paradiso recently and has been obsessed, too. And honestly, it's worth braving the crowds and the line. You walk up to an assuming Pastrami Shop, that seems empty, save for a line outside. You walk in through their refrigerator and are ushered into a swanky cocktail bar. Our host told us not to look at the menu. He ordered us two drinks to begin with, the Mediterranean Treasure and the Great Gatsby. The presentation of these drinks just cannot be compared to anything else I've ever seen. So innovative, not to mention fucking fun!!! Plus they do actually serve pastrami and it's good and smoky! I'm a solo traveler and was in Barcelona for 9 days. I decided to book a tapas tour the first night, meet some people and get a taste of the city. After the tour ended, 5 new friends and I headed to Paradiso, a really cool speakeasy in El Born. It was a Wednesday night around 9pm and very easy to get in - no line at all. We were seated at a table in the back and then the fun really began. The drinks were unique, exciting and delicious. I ordered the Caballo de Troya - a whisky drink served in a horse. One friend ordered the Great Gatsby - another whisky drink but with with a fun visual. And yet another friend ordered a drink called Into the Woods, which was special in its own way in that it was served with a side of ants. I don't recall 2 of the drink orders, but the coolest drink (both visually and literally) was the Supercool Martini - a traditional gin martini, but served in an exciting show. The service we received - from the front door, all the way through to our exit - was super outstanding! The server we had was lively, energetic and hugely entertaining - a really big part of the experience. As with any other big city, Barcelona has its fair share of good, great and banal pubs and wine bars. Paradiso is *not* at all boring. This is a place with an offering unlike any other in the area. Sure, if you measure the product as a product on a molecular level, you can get the same thing at any bar in town or around the world - and probably pay less (drinks here range in price from €10-€14). But the EXPERIENCE was the difference and made it worth our time for a visit. If in Barcelona again, or if friends are seeking tips on places to go, yes, I would recommend this place, at least for 1 drink. read more
