As a first time parent, I was very worried to leave my then 11 month old daughter at any daycare. I and my husband both work full time and we didn't want to leave out little one at a big daycare center because she would've been sick all the time. At the same time, she needed some interaction with other kids, so small in-home day care environment was our best option. It took me over a month to interview every single in-home day care at the area that had openings. I was looking for one that had it all - provided healthy home cooked meals, outdoor play, arts and crafts, was clean, and just that feeling of "you know it is right". The first things that I noticed when I visited Shahnaz were that there was no TV, it was extremely clean and there were washed broccoli and other vegetables draining in the sink and ready to be cooked. We singed up.
In the begging my daughter cried for a bit in the morning which is completely normal. But every evening when I picked her up she was very happy and by VERY I mean she was squeaking of happiness from the time I picked her up till bedtime. Even though I was worried that she can't speak and tell me how her day went, her squeaking said more than enough.
Shahnaz is one those people who were just born to interact with kids. She loves playing with them, tickling them and all the pretend and peekaboo games. They paint, dance and play. Every now and then I will get stacks of my daughter's art work. It has been over 7 months now that my daughter is doing to Paradise Child Care and she loves to paint and dance; she eats my home cooked soups and stews without a problem. Also, I wanted to mention that we do not speak English to her at home and I noticed she knows all the animals, the sounds they make, all body parts and colors in English.
Shahnaz has be very flexible with our schedule. We do not have any relatives close by and there were a few times that we needed to pick her up an hour later which she accommodated without a problem. We also have the option to drop her off on weekends if we need to (with prior arrangement, of course). We have done this only once so far but it is very convenient and a relieve to know we can rely on Shahnaz. We do not need to look for a nanny and have our kid get used to a stranger.
There are not enough words to describe how thankful I am to Shahnaz for taking such a great care of our little angel!
Update (7/1/2018): my 2nd child also went to Paradise Childcare and it is still as amazing as our first time around.
When our older one grew up, we moved her to a Montessori school and I can testify that she was learning way more academically at Nana than at the Montessori. Nana does implement a lot of Montessori practices, she does practical life to build fine motor skills.
Both my kids started eating by themselves a bit after their 1st birthday and that is all thanks to Nana. My friend's children still have trouble with that 2.5-3 years old. read more
