[Review]:
Like my wife (surname Sherman) and myself (surname Camp), Camp Sherman is a blessed union of features both recreational, rustic and rural. It's not the largest campground around, with only 15 campsites suitable for tents or RVs, but it boasts access to the gorgeous Metolius river (great for fishing enthusiasts), a stellar fly fishing & general store, and numerous hiking and biking trails, all pleasantly shaded by the canopy of massive evergreen trees of the Deschutes National Forest!
Facilities within the campsite are limited vault toilets, drinking water faucets and hookups for RVs (no electric), and a covered picnic area. Cell phone service is spotty to non-existent (this is a perk, if you ask me!). Showers, sadly, are not provided on-site, unless you're in a cabin; if you get desperate, use the river!
For less rugged adventurers, who prefer glamping to camping, cabins are available for rent throughout the campground's sprawling acreage. There's even a Mexican restaurant, ¡Hola!, complete with umbrella-covered patio dining tables, so you can really feel like you're "roughing it!" And hey, if you get sick of being stuck in the sticks, the towns of Sisters, Bend and Sunriver are all within an hour's drive or less! You know, in case you are in need to do some "foraging" in an antique store, or something.
In short, Camp Sherman is the perfect campground for those who want to get away from it all...but not TOO far away. The conveniences of civilization, and the primal beauty of Mother Earth, are in equilibrium here. If only we could achieve this level of harmony with nature everywhere!
