It took my wife and I more than six months to find what we thought would be the right builder for…read moreour screened in back deck. This was the biggest project we'd undertaken on our house to date and one of the few times we believed it would be worthwhile to hire a contractor to get it right. We made a good decision. Our deck was collapsing into the ground and frankly somewhat hazardous to our guests. We didn't just want to replace it; we wanted to upgrade it into a space our family and friends could use any time of the year and a structure that would add value to our home. Our contractor Lou met with us twice--for free!--to talk about the deck, plan, and to model it in 3D. Lou gave us an estimate, took care of all the permitting, and ordered the materials with no fuss. Every house project comes with unexpected costs and problems, but Lou's team never troubled us for more money or excuses for why they couldn't do what they had promised. They just got it done. I can't overstate how rare this is when working through a house project. The only thing that didn't meet expectations was the timeline. Adam Hunt led the team that actually assembled the deck. We cannot say enough about how impressed we were with the quality of Adam's work and his positive demeanor. He seems to know about every aspect of home repair and building and has an artist's eye for the craft. When the ceiling beams weren't exactly right, he came back and re-did them flawlessly. I cannot praise Adam's sturdy, beautiful work enough, but there is a whole other aspect of having a team come to your house people politely don't talk about. I'm going to talk about it here. We were glad to have Adam and his team there. Adam and his assistant Josh don't just want to get the job done. He spoke with us any time we wanted about the next steps for the project and the potential for the deck after his work was finished; providing advice about painting, caulking, and landscaping. When there was a small problem with water getting into the building, he solved it quickly and without complaint. We realized that he didn't just want to finish the project well, he wanted us to be happy with the space for years to come. He spoke like a friend. We would trust Adam with any project. We would trust him with the keys to our house while we were away. That didn't happen because there's a pandemic so we can't go anywhere, but we would have trusted him just the same. The screen-in back deck they built is beautiful and incredibly sturdy. Hilariously, I think it's sturdier than any other part of our home. Friends, family, and nosy neighbors familiar with construction have all crawled over it looking for where Deck Builders cut corners. They cut no corners. They delivered the highest quality with care and pride. When it's time to build our patio, we hope to return to Lou and Deck Builders. They have our highest recommendation because we can't even conceive of someone having a negative experience with this crew. We hope you'll choose to hear Adam singing Dean Martin, Mary J. Blige, or just sawing to Tchaikovsky in your yard.

A beautiful outdoor 3-season room and a lovely patio complete with gas firepit and stone wall. I was impressed when meeting Vic Henderson for the first time for a consultation and quote. He noticed some things that were problematic for me but not on my agenda for discussing or fixing at that time. For example, there were some shrubs on the side of the house that have caused grief for years. Vic suggested removing them. He also offered the idea of replacing my concrete stairs with paver steps that would match the patio. I hadn't even considered this - it turns out that this is one of the best decisions I made. It really completed the project and makes everything look connected. Vic has been fine-tuning his craft for years. He knows his stuff and is happy to make sure things are done well and to your satisfaction. Everyone who worked on the project was very professional and efficient. The project started when Vic said it would and finished in a timely matter. If there were ever problems (such as projected rain), Vic would promptly send a note so I was aware. Vic answered my questions, tended to my concerns, and made sure things were as they should be. The three season room as well as the patio are wonderful! I have gotten so many compliments from neighbors and friends about how wonderful it is. I couldn't be happier. The room itself feels good and my family uses it all the time. The ceiling wood and the tile floor compliment the stone around the fireplace and everything comes together nicely. Love the easy breeze panels which easily slide up and down to either form a window "block" or expose the screening for a wonderful outdoor space. The patio is also wonderful and my kids love the firepit. We decided to go gas for the fire pit which makes it so easy to get outside and make s'mores (very important to my kids). Overall, the room and patio are exactly as I envisioned. Both are beautiful and Vic and Raleigh Deck and Screen Porch Builders are highly recommended.

In the seven years we've lived here in our new home, I've had to remove the old stain and then…read morere-stain our front porch decking three times. I've also had to sand, scrape and re-paint all the white railings, the 4 big posts and, the worst, all the 60 + balusters! at least that many times. Although I worked in Building Maintenance for 20+ years (now retired) and have more than the average amount of experience in this kind of work, the results of my efforts, while OK, just looked less to my eyes than the time and effort I had to put into getting them done, and they just didn't last. Contemplating the work I needed to do yet again early this year, I decided perhaps we should try a professional who specialized in these kinds of jobs. My search narrowed down to 3 or 4 local outfits that advertised deck refinishing. Among them was APEX DECK SAVERS. I was struck by the statement that refinishing and repairing decks was the only thing they did. I called and left a message. Charlie Soden, the owner, called me back a few days later and we made an appointment to have him look at the job and give an estimate. I was favorably impressed by Charlie's professional and friendly manner. He spent a lot more time than the others looking over the job. He explained what he felt needed to be done, with what materials and how he would do each step. He encouraged questions and answered them fully. When I mentioned that I wanted to repaint all the rails, balusters, etc, before the work on the decking proceeded; he said that he could do that as well for an additional cost. I told him to add that in his estimate. He said that he would make up a detailed estimate and email it to me in a few days. He left a very professionally done brochure that explained and pictured some "Before and Afters " of jobs he had performed and told me to call anytime if I had any more questions. I will say that Apex Deck Savers quote was the highest among the bids. But I had seen for myself the poor quality of work that some of my neighbors got when they opted for low cost work. It's generally true that you get what you pay for. Charlie and his crew came by a week or so after I had called and gave him the go ahead. The first day, almost 10 hours, was spent entirely on prepping. As I watched them work, I knew I had made the right choice. Prepping is the true foundation of a job well done and, these guys were meticulous and thorough way above and beyond anything I had done or thought needed to be done. "No wonder my previous work was so less than stellar", I thought! They were just as meticulous and thorough when they came back to repaint and re-stain. My wife and I were - and remain delighted by how sparkling clean and new our front porch looks now. We both agree that it looks better now than when our home was brand new. I can think of very few jobs I've had done that were so completely satisfying. Kudos to Charlie Soden and the great crew of Apex Deck Savers!
