I had…read moreabsolutely no knowledge of kickboxing, so I thought this would be a place where I could learn from the beginning, especially since I was hoping Nam Phan would guide beginners like me. But honestly, my experience was very bad. I came on a Saturday and arrived about 20 minutes early. When I told him I had never trained in martial arts or kickboxing before, instead of giving me basic guidance, he seemed annoyed that I didn't know anything. Then he told me to warm up by myself. When I came back, there was only one other student there, and that person had only been training for about a month. But the person who actually showed me what to do was that student, not Nam Phan. During training, Nam Phan briefly demonstrated a few moves and then told me to practice with the other student as if I had already been training for a long time. I was a complete beginner, so it was honestly very difficult to keep up. Throughout the entire session, he only corrected me once, but kept yelling loudly at me whenever I made mistakes. I felt extremely uncomfortable but still tried to continue training. Since it was my first class, I also didn't know what I needed to prepare. Before I came, he specifically told me I didn't need to bring anything. But when training started, he suddenly asked if I had boxing gloves. When I said no, he threw the gloves he was holding onto the ground aggressively and asked in an irritated tone why I didn't prepare anything. Throughout the whole session, the way he spoke and his attitude made me feel like I was being scolded for not knowing anything instead of being guided as a beginner. He spoke Vietnamese very quietly and unclearly, so many times I couldn't even understand what he was saying. That training session made me feel extremely bad and uncomfortable. I came in wanting to try and learn a new sport, but instead I only felt pressure and negativity from beginning to end.

Professor Dory is an awesome instructor and overall a very respectful and welcoming individual. Tough and technical rolls with the members there, with no ego. As soon as we walked through the door, we were treated as part of the team. Thank you Daoun Jiu Jitsu for the rolls and hospitality. Congratulations on a huge milestone of operating for one year! She's always there pushing us to improve, which honestly makes a huge difference compared to coaches I've had in the past who weren't consistently present for classes. Her routines are also really well put together. She mixes in new combos here and there, so there's always something new to work on. She's very knowledgeable and experienced in what she teaches. Boxing: Jessie is an awesome boxing coach! He's very attentive, walks around the room to make sure everyone is using proper form. Great combos and I like that he suggests options to add a strike in the middle of the combo routine. Jessie exudes an incredible energy that motivates you to push out your best efforts in every class. Also shoutout to both coaches for good selection of music and always ending each class with stretching. I really appreciate that they take the time for recovery and not just the workout itself.

I dabble in both Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu classes on a weekly basis. Morning and evenings classes for both martial arts are offered and this works perfectly with my work schedule. The space is huge and is always clean as well. Everyone I've met at this gym is nice and willing to help as well. Overall the fighters and grapplers that Master Cordeiro and Professor Ricardo have produced in the past years has paid off because this gym has many high level athletes.
