Parachute has great selections on children's clothing, including vintage. Staff was quite friendly and lovely.

This is a small shop but full of lots of great baby and kid finds…read more The husband and I made it a point to stop by Smoochie Baby while we were exploring Williamsburg during our babymoon, based on its great reviews. The first item on our wish list: a hat for our 1-year-old nephew. The clerk quickly showed us to a display of winter hats, and we found a great knit hat for roughly $30 that will hopefully stretch a bit as our nephew grows. And since we have a baby on the way, we couldn't resist looking for something fun for our babe too. Smoochie Baby carries everything from baby and infant clothes and shoes and accessories to books to nursery decor to toys. (I particularly remember that Smoochie Baby carries shoes because in perhaps an example of Brooklyn extraness, the customers who came in after us asked the clerk if they stock any vegan baby shoes.) We ended up going with a soft, plush dragon -- our future son's first stuffed animal. It seems well made and didn't break the bank at about $35. And it makes me smile every time I look at it. Smoochie Baby also offers gift wrapping. Whether you're buying for your own kids or others, this is a great place to stop.

With more time I might have found more to favor in this children's boutique…read more We went after Preschool for a new winter cap. Another immediate need was mittens, flexible enough for everyday play, with strings that would hook to his coat. A cap that matched his jacket and shoes was cute, warm, well made and large enough to allow growing room. The mittens were a different experience. The employee brought out about 5 - 6 pairs of mittens with strings. Although there were two employees and I was the only shopper in the store, neither offered to help fit and determine if the mittens met our specific needs. The comment was made "That is all we have with strings." Since the store doesn't offer refunds, only store credits, we decided to purchase the cap and look elsewhere for mittens. A little more customer care might have changed that decision. The store offers a very cute Yelp check-in offer: A hug or a high-five. The employees weren't aware of the offer but immediately complied. Located in a very "hard to find street parking" area of Williamsburg, the store is one street off Bedford, allowing a parking search down commercial side streets that will eventually meet success. Would I return? Probably not. There are so many other children's stores with better customer service, larger inventory, and easier street parking. And some of the merchandise seemed overpriced compared to similar quality at other stores. But we were pleased with the quality and price of our purchase. And we left to a smiling high-five.

The customer service alone is what had me thinking 'I've gotta write a Yelp review for this place'…read more We live in the neighborhood where there are a few options for baby clothing/accessories/etc. For me, they fall into two categories: Regular shopping and "I guess it was good to check it out once so I know what they have". This place definitely falls into the regular shopping category for me. First off, I want to address the customer service comment I referred to. The woman who helped my wife and I pick out some clothing was super helpful, patient, and did not have a pressured salesy approach. Our stroller's bassinet hood was mostly closed because the baby was sleeping, and she did not even attempt to look into it. She asked, "Boy/Girl? Age?" and then went to pick out the appropriate items that might work for us. So what's the big hoopla about this? Well, we're losing count for the amount of times random people will come up to a mostly closed off bassinet hood and try to peek in, get close to, or even touch the baby. Since the baby is only a few months old we prefer to not have her being touched by strangers due to only having a handful of shots so far. Some people are excited by the prospect of meeting a baby but probably aren't aware parents have different tolerances for who gets near the baby. Anyway, this interaction, while subtle, made me think, "She gets it". After we picked out something we liked, she left us to browse at our convenience. The selection of clothing here is great - variety, sizes, etc. Also lots of books and toys that we'll be back to take a look at once we get through all the other stuff we currently have at home. Highly recommend stopping by to check out!

I can't believe I'm writing a review for a children's clothing store, much less the first review,…read morebut I had a really positive experience at Tallulah's Closet and wanted to share. I have no kids and am pretty dumb when it comes to shopping for them. But, I was going to visit a relative who just had a baby and wanted to come bearing gifts. I'd gone to a few boutiques in Park Slope, but I was NOT going to pay $34 friggin' dollars for a hipster baby t-shirt, like some of the stores were charging. Ridiculous! I won't even spend this much money on a t-shirt for myself! So, I figured my home neighborhood of Greenpoint would be priced more affordably. Went to one store a block away from where I live. WRONG! Even more expensive! With this review and all you Yelpers as my witnesses, I will never pay $70 for a baby sweater when I become a parent, even if it is made in Europe. As a last ditch effort, I went to Tallulah's Closet, a place i'd walked by a few times on my way to the gym. Immediately upon entering, I was greeted by the cheerful owner and, probably sensing the look of cluelessness on my face, she asked if I needed help. I did. Knowing I was looking for a gift, she helped me find a few new pieces with the tags still attached (since this is a consignment shop, most of the goods are used.) Everything was very helpfully grouped by the child's age and was priced really well. I noticed used Gap Baby sweaters in great condition for $4 etc. They also have books and toys. I ended up buying a brand, spankin' new Osh Kosh onesie and overall set for $15, tags still attached, that my cousin loved. Very cool experience and just another reason that I'm grateful to live in Greenpoint and not Park Slope!

Well today, on 2/26 I decided to cash in on my gift card. I picked a pair of sunnies ($20) and a makeup bag ($25). When I got to the register, I was told I needed to make a purchase of $150 in order to use the gift card. This was never disclosed during the initial purchase. Nowhere on the receipt or gift card does it state this term and condition! When I spoke to the "manager" of the day, she agreed that it wasn't stated in writing, but "that's the way it's set up". Really? How misleadingly convenient. That important detail was left out. What a crock! What a disappointment! Bait-and-switch is BAD BUSINESS. You're obligated to let your customers know these details of your promos and the way they are "set up" beforehand. I'm filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau next.
