    Jalada
    Michele R.

I just love this place. They are parked behind The Alcove bar in downtown Jeff. There is a back alley door to go through but I normally go through the front door. 1st time there I ordered the barbacoa tacos. Too much fat for me but the taste was good! The Jalada taco is the best! That is my go-to meal when I go there. Full of flavor. I crave this taco and mainlyon days they are closed. They do have later hours because of the night life in downtown Jeff but worth it. I ordered 6 of the Jaladas the other night. Have 2 to a friend so he could try them and he loved them too. The next morning I scramble up some eggs and put them on there for breakfast! So good. I would like to try more but I'm stuck on that Jalada taco.

We found this Food truck treasure while randomly visiting a bar. This Food truck was located in the back of The Alcove's courtyard. You can also access it from the back on a side road. The food was THE BOMB! We ordered the chorizo roti and the chorizo loaded fries and we loved them both! Best we've had while traveling for two weeks in Tennessee, Kentucky and Indiana. The food is very flavorful. If you like rich flavors, this is the place for you. We loved the food so much that we had to come back the next day. We had a chance to talk to the chef and his wife and learned about their techniques and good standards. The chef gave us a sample of a new vegan creation. I love meat but his tofu creation was amazing. This is a local treasure for people with cravings for rich flavors. Highly recommend you stop by. They don't open until 8pm but are open until late night.

We stumbled on this treasure for late night munchies It's by the walking bridge in Jeffersonville. It's hidden in The Alcove's courtyard. They have a full menu, including very tasty vegan options, such as bbq tofu tacos, and a incredible vegan Roti . Vegetarian options can be made vegan too! I wish I had pics of the food, but I ate it too fast ‍ Open 8-2am Thur-Sat.

A great food truck located at a great bar. The brisket is awesome as is everything else on the menu that I've tried.

They start you with these funky fried crisps. No salsa or pico-but on the bright side you don't fill up with chips. Good thing, because the portions are ginormous! It's rare I can't finish a meal, but my shredded beef with mole was more than enough for a takeout box. I ordered the platter, so my meal came with rice and refried beans. We had the leftovers for lunch the following day. My wife ordered two alacart items. Shrimp cerviche and a chicken taco. Both well prepared. And as a side bonus, the tortillas were outstanding. I'm not a fan of corn tortillas, but these home made gems had flavor and didn't fall apart like packaged ones. Same with the crispy corn shells for the tostada. Great crunch and real flavor. Beer was served cold along with a frosted mug and a slice of lime. Everything is made to order. One fella was the chief, cook & bottle washer. And waiter. He speaks English when he sees you struggling with the menu. He made us feel very welcome. This is a down to earth diner that hasn't seen any updating since day one, but the food is excellent, the restrooms are clean and the service was perfectomundo.

I was able to explore the menu but I knew I had walked in for a ceviche. Glad waitress clarified the typo on large shrimp ceviche's price, which immediately translated to honesty. Thei give you a complimentary savory broth with hints of seafood flavor and potatoes which is a welcoming opening. The flavor was excellent the tostadas are like home made non commercial, loved them. Their give you fresh lime or already squeezed natural lime juice. I had a campechano (mixed) taco and a pastor taco. Which they have for .99 on Tuesdays so I will be a regular on Tuesdays too. There is parking on the front and on one of the sides of the place. The team was quick with food, attentive to all needs and very professional and friendly. And the price value is amazing. There are many items I still have to try but it is in my top 3 list for Mexican food in Kentuckiana!

La Catrina is in a small building, about a block from the bridge. And we were able to get a table on the patio for our family plus the friends and their kids who were walking the bridge with us. Our server was quick and attentive. I got a margarita, which hit the spot. We enjoyed the chips and dips appetizer. For my meal, I got the Tex-I-Can burrito, made with brisket, black beans, herb lime rice, chihuahua cheese and salsa. It came highly recommended by our server, and I'm glad I listened to him. My kids got cheese quesadillas that they enjoyed. One other fun thing: Be sure to check out the ladies restroom if you go. There's pink neon hung on the wall that changes the color of the wallpaper depending on if you have the overhead lights on or not, which my daughter thought was the coolest thing. La Catrina has a great vibe that works well for adults or families -- a great stop if you're walking the bridge.

Our server quickly came and took our drink orders. I went with a large margarita. My wife, disappointed when told there were no beers on draft, asked for a bottled beer. She was brought a Miller Light in an aluminum "bottle". We finally got a Corona Light in a glass bottle. We ordered a shareable order of nachos. The nachos were actually pretty good. But since they were shareable, one would think the server would know to bring extra plates. Nope. Maybe even extra napkins? Nope. My wife decided she also wanted a small salad. The server suggested the Cobb salad. She was able to make it a small at half price. But, a Cobb "salad" requires lettuce. There were a few shreds buried amongst the cheese, chips & chicken. Essentially, another order of nachos, with ranch dressing. We asked for some salsa and our server made a point of telling us there was no charge. Typically, LaCatrina charges $3 for chips & salsa. The menu is quite limited. La Catrina doesn't try to be a full service restaurant. Tacos. Burritos. Quesadilla. Tamales. No enchiladas. No fajitas. So, fair service. Easily solved with better training. And decent food, but nothing to really set La Catrina apart from the pack. Except maybe the gummy worm that came with my margarita.

The service was attentive, however we did experience a language barrier that made it difficult for us to order. (100% okay, people need to accept that businesses aren't required to be English only!) Some lovely folks at the restaurant overheard our struggles and assisted us by translating our order into Spanish. So the friendly atmosphere brings the friendliest of people. The food is average Mexican food. Not pictured are churros we ordered that were super soggy and wet. The sauces they are dressed with made the hard shell texture completely unappealing. The chorizo rice and beans was good. I love my chorizo a little more spicy, so this one definitely lacked a little bit of flavor. Not a must have for Mexican food in Louisville, but you won't have a bad experience.

I had told my grandson about the mole I had on our first visit, and he wanted to try it. My wife and I ordered tamales and my grandson ordered the Mole Oaxaqueno. I ordered a Michalada ($10.00). Not long after ordering the manager returned to our table and informed us they were out of tamales. That being the case, my wife ordered the Lunch Chicken Fajita which we were told was on special today. It's normally ($10.99). I ordered Tlayuda, which is basically a Mexican Pizza ($17.00). My wife had asked for a side of the mole sauce. My grandson was served his meal AND an extra plate of Chicken Mole. We all looked at each other like why did he get extra chicken mole. My wife received her Fajita, but no side of the mole sauce. Do you see where this is going? My grandson loved the Chicken Mole. My wife said the Chicken Fajita was bland with no seasonings. She did not like the Fajita. My Tlayuda was huge. However the base was a huge flour tortilla and it was grilled to the point it was like a piece of leather. You couldn't cut it nor chew it. It was terrible. IMO the Tlayuda is not worth $17. I would not order it again. My Michalada was good. So I get my check. My wife's Fajita was not on special we were charged the regular $10.99. The extra plate of Chicken Mole, which was supposed to be a small side bowl of mole sauce was charged as another meal. I did not challenge their misunderstanding of what we wanted because my grandson ate all of it. All in all, we would not reorder most of our meal. This restaurant charges a 4% surcharge for using a credit card, so I took cash to avoid the 4%. When I got my change it was a $5 bill with 14 one dollar bills. The server apologized and said that's all they had. If they're going to charge for using credit cards, they should have cash on hand to make change. Our love affair with this restaurant is quickly waning.

I always determine if a Mexican restaurant is good by the taste of the rice and the rice blew me away. I want a gallon bucket of that rice! We ordered the chorizo taco and the Tlayuda which is the size of a medium pizza! Would be great for an appetizer for about 4-6 people. I ordered the chicken Verde enchilada meal and mom ordered the beef Verde enchilada meal. Also shared the chili relleno. You get 2 on the platter and even after it sat for a little while, the cheese still oozed out when I cut into it. Breading was excellent and once I got to the seeds inside, you got that little bit of heat. Mom is a chicken Mole fan so she got that and said it tasted like Grandma's. Drinks were strong. They do have a limited bar. Food is the best authentic Mexican around this area that I have had. This is our new go-to spot for authentic Mexican food. Our bill for everything was just at $100 and we left a nice tip. We will be back soon!
