Taco trio
Kyle E.

Some of the best Korean tacos I've ever had are found at The Traveling Kitchen food truck! This has been a long time favorite, but during Covid they stopped coming to 5th and Market. A few weeks ago they reappeared and are starting a more regular rotation again with Fridays at 5th and Market from 11-1:15. It's hard to describe how delicious these tacos are, but it's like a party in my mouth. My go to tacos are Korean Beef Bulgogi taco, Spicy Pork taco and Teriyaki chicken tacos. They are $4 each (after price increase), but if you purchase three it's $11. They also have a fish and tempura taco and dumplings. I always get the pan fried dumplings and they are amazing ($5). The sauce it comes with is slightly tangy and compliment the dumplings perfectly. Now back to the tacos - each have kimchi fried rice, meat, cilantro and sauce. I always add kimchi to each taco too, it's free but you have to ask. The Bulgogi is slightly sweet, the pork is not very spicy but has a great flavor and the chicken is so good. I would highly recommend trying them all. To order, you stand to the left of the line waiting for food. At some point you'll be asked for your order. Sometimes it takes a little longer but so worth the wait. Once you have ordered you can then join the food line. You don't pay until you get to the front of the line, and then your food is ready! They also offer some soft drinks and water for purchase. I LOVE this food truck and suggest you follow them online to see where they are going to be so you can become an addict like me!

Beef Bulgogi, and roast pork tacos with kimchi fried rice

I was a little hesitant at first to go to food truck as I've had bad experiences before. But after ordering and eating the tacos from this amazing place, I will absolutely come back again. The service was courteous and quick and it was a beautiful sunny day in downtown. If you have the opportunity to find this food truck by all means supported, it is fantastic.

Korean Beef Tacos with Kimchee. Can you spell Umami?

Oh how I missed this Food Truck. Prior to quarantine, The Traveling Kitchen was on 5th and Market by my office building on Wednesday's and Fridays every week. I would treat myself to their Korean Tacos a couple of times per month. Well Covid hit and I missed them so much! Well, my daughter sent me a text with their schedule this week, and we met them at 141 N Spring and all my dreams came true! We each got the three Korean Beef Bulgagi tacos with Kimchee full of flavorful steak topped with crunchy and mildly spicy Kimchee (optional) served on a flour tortilla. You can get one taco for $3, or three for $8. So why not save a dollar and have three? New this time we tried the pork dumplings. They were delicious pillows of pork and veggies with a scrumptious dipping sauce. Thank you Traveling Kitchen for providing us with your amazing food during Covid. Follow them on social media so you can become a groupy.

Best tacos in the city, and it's not even close. Well... I mean. They're Korean style. That needs to be noted. So if you're going expecting traditional Latino style tacos, this truck isn't for you, but I suggest you do not turn away. The beef taco is a bit sweet. I recommend getting it with kimchi to balance out the sweetness, but it's a solid option. The pork taco is spicy, and it's my favorite. Also get with kimchi to balance out that spice. The fish taco is my least favorite, but still excellent. Kimchi isn't needed here, unless you want to flare it up. The chicken taco is also really good, but my 3rd favorite after the pork and the beef. It's a serviceable taco. Three tacos for $9.00. And it's plenty of food. Order at the door, then get in line and wait for your food. You won't regret it.

Some of the best Asian inspired tacos out there! I recommend the Bulgogi beef and Teri chicken tacos with kim chi added. They both were very flavorful, with fresh ingredients and a nice amount of heat. I also tried their spicy pork and veggie taco which were also great and their dumplings. Well, now that I think about it I pretty much tried everything on their menu and everything was great. I'll have to try their fish taco the next time they come to 3rd turn in J-town. If you happen to come across this food truck definitely give them a try, you won't be disappointed.

Spicy Pork, Teriyaki Chicken, Bulgogi Beef. Deep Fried Dumplings

The tacos and dumplings are absolutely incredible. I always order a bulgogi beef, teriyaki chicken and spicy pork along with an order of dumplings. Everything is always delicious. Dare I say, LAST MEAL WORTHY! Without question my favorite food truck in Louisville.

Delicious every time. The people are also really nice. I recommend the spicy Korean pork and tempura fish though you have to come early because the pork runs out pretty early. It comes to UofL on Tuesdays only but is so worth the wait.

Let's make this simple. Victor and his team are worth fighting the worst weather to find. The absolute best tacos and dumplings this side of the Ohio. Make sure to get 3 Spicy pork. They will not disappoint.

They start you with these funky fried crisps. No salsa or pico-but on the bright side you don't fill up with chips. Good thing, because the portions are ginormous! It's rare I can't finish a meal, but my shredded beef with mole was more than enough for a takeout box. I ordered the platter, so my meal came with rice and refried beans. We had the leftovers for lunch the following day. My wife ordered two alacart items. Shrimp cerviche and a chicken taco. Both well prepared. And as a side bonus, the tortillas were outstanding. I'm not a fan of corn tortillas, but these home made gems had flavor and didn't fall apart like packaged ones. Same with the crispy corn shells for the tostada. Great crunch and real flavor. Beer was served cold along with a frosted mug and a slice of lime. Everything is made to order. One fella was the chief, cook & bottle washer. And waiter. He speaks English when he sees you struggling with the menu. He made us feel very welcome. This is a down to earth diner that hasn't seen any updating since day one, but the food is excellent, the restrooms are clean and the service was perfectomundo.

I was able to explore the menu but I knew I had walked in for a ceviche. Glad waitress clarified the typo on large shrimp ceviche's price, which immediately translated to honesty. Thei give you a complimentary savory broth with hints of seafood flavor and potatoes which is a welcoming opening. The flavor was excellent the tostadas are like home made non commercial, loved them. Their give you fresh lime or already squeezed natural lime juice. I had a campechano (mixed) taco and a pastor taco. Which they have for .99 on Tuesdays so I will be a regular on Tuesdays too. There is parking on the front and on one of the sides of the place. The team was quick with food, attentive to all needs and very professional and friendly. And the price value is amazing. There are many items I still have to try but it is in my top 3 list for Mexican food in Kentuckiana!

La Catrina is in a small building, about a block from the bridge. And we were able to get a table on the patio for our family plus the friends and their kids who were walking the bridge with us. Our server was quick and attentive. I got a margarita, which hit the spot. We enjoyed the chips and dips appetizer. For my meal, I got the Tex-I-Can burrito, made with brisket, black beans, herb lime rice, chihuahua cheese and salsa. It came highly recommended by our server, and I'm glad I listened to him. My kids got cheese quesadillas that they enjoyed. One other fun thing: Be sure to check out the ladies restroom if you go. There's pink neon hung on the wall that changes the color of the wallpaper depending on if you have the overhead lights on or not, which my daughter thought was the coolest thing. La Catrina has a great vibe that works well for adults or families -- a great stop if you're walking the bridge.

Our server quickly came and took our drink orders. I went with a large margarita. My wife, disappointed when told there were no beers on draft, asked for a bottled beer. She was brought a Miller Light in an aluminum "bottle". We finally got a Corona Light in a glass bottle. We ordered a shareable order of nachos. The nachos were actually pretty good. But since they were shareable, one would think the server would know to bring extra plates. Nope. Maybe even extra napkins? Nope. My wife decided she also wanted a small salad. The server suggested the Cobb salad. She was able to make it a small at half price. But, a Cobb "salad" requires lettuce. There were a few shreds buried amongst the cheese, chips & chicken. Essentially, another order of nachos, with ranch dressing. We asked for some salsa and our server made a point of telling us there was no charge. Typically, LaCatrina charges $3 for chips & salsa. The menu is quite limited. La Catrina doesn't try to be a full service restaurant. Tacos. Burritos. Quesadilla. Tamales. No enchiladas. No fajitas. So, fair service. Easily solved with better training. And decent food, but nothing to really set La Catrina apart from the pack. Except maybe the gummy worm that came with my margarita.

The service was attentive, however we did experience a language barrier that made it difficult for us to order. (100% okay, people need to accept that businesses aren't required to be English only!) Some lovely folks at the restaurant overheard our struggles and assisted us by translating our order into Spanish. So the friendly atmosphere brings the friendliest of people. The food is average Mexican food. Not pictured are churros we ordered that were super soggy and wet. The sauces they are dressed with made the hard shell texture completely unappealing. The chorizo rice and beans was good. I love my chorizo a little more spicy, so this one definitely lacked a little bit of flavor.
