Pappy's Market - Grocery Near Me - Oceanside, California

Walked in today with my kids and I got no greeting, absolute silence when checking out it was the most awkward thing. I'm the one who said hello and asked what the total was. I've cashiered before and that's the bare minimum to say. My kid even felt bad for me walking out it was not a good feeling. Also a bit overpriced which I don't even mind but customer service has me not wanting to return here. read more

Fron outside, Pappy's Market is a hoot! Old school sign, funky murals, hard not to spot it! I went in to get some water while on a weekend getaway. Inside, the place is your typical liquor store. Nothing fancy, or unusual, but well stocked with anything you need to grab. Good selection and prices, nice customer service. Solid market, indie store, that's why we picked it to shop at and go! read more

We love pappys. It's a tradition for our family to make the pilgrimage once or twice a year. Thanks for the winning $500 scratcher ticket this year. read more

Pricey, yes but with everything going on in the world, it often doesn't even matter (especially if I need toilet paper!). I love supporting small businesses, and this one is no exception. While there is surprisingly a fantastic amount of parking, I tend to walk over (and I'm here several times a week, picking up drinks or random items). This market has a huge selection of stuff- there's local brands as well as stuff from Smart n Final and Costco. Everyone is always super friendly, and this spot is open late (midnight!). If ever I opt to pay for convenience, this is my number one choice in the area. read more

I walked in to the liquor and the cashier was staring at me the whole time when I was walking around the liquor, I felt uncomfortable. I honestly wouldn't come here again. Also all the items were overprice. Better to just go to seven eleven 7/11. read more

As a warning, this is a pretty Russian River Brewing exclusive post. Quick backstory: as a resident of Arizona, I am in a constant state of yearning for Pliny the Elder--hi, Russian River, I'm ready for you to distribute to my state!! So every single time I'm anywhere in California, I make it a point to hunt down as much as I can and bring it home. A yelp search/cross-reference against Russian River's website (this isn't a joke, friends) led me straight to Pappy's Market, which was conveniently located exactly one mile from my hotel. Day 1 of vacation: I hit up Pappy's on my walk back from Oceanside Pier. They have THREE bottles of Pliny in stock. I am elated. I confirm with a very nice employee that there isn't a limit (that's right, NO limit!), and then purchase all of them plus a bonus Blind Pig. They also carried bottles of the STS Pils, but I'm personally not a huge fan of that one. After a conversation with my sister, a Russian River worshipper as well, she requests that I go back and "buy out all of their Blind Pig" and bring it back to her. I didn't end up doing that, but I did swing back in and buy 5 more piggies. When I came up to the counter to pay, the cashier (different one from my earlier purchases), noted what I was carrying and asked me if I was interested in Pliny; my answer was obviously a resounding yes. He told me that there was another case in the back and he could offer me two more. Hellz. Yeah. After confirming that I did in fact, still want to purchase all 5 Blind Pigs in conjunction with my two additional Plinys, I paid the very reasonable price ($6.50--pretty common from what I've found in Southern CA) and went merrily along on my way. Pappy's will absolutely be a mandatory stop in the future for beers, anytime I'm in the Oceanside or Carlsbad area. The service, the RRB, and the overall selection was awesome, and the place itself is clean and well organized. I can see why it's a stop for locals and travelers alike. read more

This is a pretty typical liquor store. They have a good selection and staff always seems friendly and helpful. This is the kind of place you hit up on your way to the beach for alcohol and snacks. You'll definitely see a lot of interesting people walk into this store. read more

Very convenient store located minutes from the beach. A lot of great candy, chips, soda, and alcohol options.

Friendly little convenience store in a great location. Just a block from our AirBNB stay...came in handy for our munchie and booze needs! Huge liquor, wine, and beer selection. We love this place! read more

Our go to place every time we get into town, from bait to something we forgot. Just a few blocks from where we stay.

After a long day of working from home, I was headed to this establishment in need of some cold coors light. Outside was a dirty looking homeless man who was begging for a pint of vodka. After walking in the store and abruptly pulling out his genitals, these store owners promptly proceeded to throw the guy out and kick him to the curb. They handled business the way all Californian liquor stores should. Would rate 11/10 if I could read more

Great little place for food, wine, but also bait and fishing gear. They had all you need to pier/surf fish including sand crabs, squid(frozen) , blood worms (live), hooks, sinkers, line, rods if you need them. Also a pretty wide selection of beef jerky as well read more

Love this place! We went in needing some water and we're so surprised to find such an amazing, abundant selection of anything you could need! Great store with bait that sticks onto your hooks. I tried the bait on the pier and it thins out and gals right off. They got everything you need for fishing, surfing, paddle boarding and more. Great store and great service read more

Close by the pier and has bail. Opens at 8 so if you're local buy bail the day before you go fishing then get out to the pier at day break

Well-stocked and helpful service. Prices were as expected for a California beach town. We will return next time we're in Oceanside.

Staff is friendly. Huge selection on alcohol. Prices are reasonable for liquor store.

Went in for a toothbrush. Clean, well lit, felt comfortable being there even after 11 pm. Great selection of alcohol. Happy to find a toothbrush and coffee & creamer too. read more

Nice clerk and the store has a good selection of essentials. What else can I say? .........

Was looking for Dramamine and was hoping that this local shop carried it, no luck although they did have a small pharmacy section filled with items like DayQuil and headache medicine. When I first walked in the store I thought it was unmanned because the cashier was sitting in a low chair behind the register! It's better to just wander around the store anyways and look for yourself at what's in stock because it seems like the guy didn't know what he had in stock as well, ha! Cool selection of beer they have, they actually have some decent brands from local microbreweries! read more

Gotta love a place called Pappy's, right? It's one of those old-school markets where everybody knows everybody. From the clerks behind the counter recognizing familiar neighborhood faces, to locals bumping into each other while stocking up on rubbers and cans of cheddar cheese Pringles... chances are, 60% of the time, you'll see someone you know every time. In addition to the usual staples you'd expect to find in a liquor store/market hybrid, they also have fishing bait because of their close proximity to the pier. If you're looking for some chum to help snag a delicious bass, Pappy's has yer back. read more

It may just look like your average liquor store on the outside, but...okay, it is. But there's something about Pappy's that brings me back every time. I'm not sure if I'm a regular, or if they just remember everyone. The guys that work there are beyond nice! Prices are a little more than necessary, but it's convenient to walk to for small things. And of course.....beer and liquor. read more

We love Dusty! Thanks for letting me bring my pup in when we're coming back from our walk! read more

Pappy's Market - Pappy's Market - corner N Cleveland St & Surfrider. Check it out some time. - Grocery Near Me - Oceanside, California

This was a little market up the street from the beach. We were having a little bbq hangout and ran out of booze and charcoal so I had to make a run up to here. This is a nice little market for some of your needs. A lot of alcohol which was good in my case. A few kids outside tried getting me to buy for them but i was semi-drunk already and realized that it was probably a bad idea haha. The guy at the register was nice and helpful. I think I was being unnecessarily loud in his store so I was surprised that he was as friendly as he was. There is also a public restroom for you people not wanting to use the dirty beach bathroom :) I'll be back next time I'm at the beach for sure. read more

Great market has something for everyone! Beach stuff, fishing stuff, great selection of wine! Staff is super friend! My favorite is Forrest, he's always friendly and helpful! The market is clean and organized! Recommend to all! read more

I'm not sure if it's just a market or just a liquor store. They don't have the real distinguishing features of each. I mean liquor stores don't carry bait and tackle, but they do. Market's don't carry liquor and clothing and most people that come here get the hootch versus chips and a soda. All the north county cycling community should know this place for post trail runs and refilling on water or the overplayed "payday". They even have a bike cam in lieu of racks. Owners are generally cordial to funny, but you gotta remember it's almost this little island of hood with a jacked up parking lot, but most of the surrounding houses are a step up. The surfrider 4 way stopsign can be a mess. I often find the people who hang around here are worse than the people by the bars. read more

Basically a liquor store like any other, but the staff is super friendly and nice to the local vagrants. They sell beach fun like soft top surf boards and sand toys for the little ones. This is one of those pay for the convenience type stores and quite honestly, its not ridiculous pricing but you definitely are paying for convenience. they have it all, especially if you are going to be using the fiercest or making smores...they have your covered!
