Just want to take the time compliment the wonderful staff, store and convenience. We love to support shopping local!! It's all about community and paying it forward. This lovely family owned and operated mini market/liquor store couldn't be more complete!
They carry freshly made guacamole and salsa in a cooler right as you walk in. Finely marinated carne asada and other brilliant meats from their obviously experienced and established butcher, Gelasio. Even on busy weekend nights at the liquor counter, just being in their family's presence makes waiting in line for their comparatively priced milk (2 gallons for $6.00!!!) or $0.59lb bananas makes me feel relieved to have such a wonderfully owned and operated convenience store, open late, just around the corner makes it worth it. Sure, the grocery stores are just a mile or so down the road in each direction but why waste the gas, walking time, carts, isle after isle just to be gone 30+ minutes when you can hop in and out in a matter of minutes?
It's easy to get to being at a relatively quieter intersection and great little strip mall where you can do your local shopping, get gas, pizza..etc... All-in-one stop. Sometimes just wanting some authentic candy or baked goods, a taste right out of Mexico itself, is all we desire.
The customer service is outstanding! Seeing Rachel and Nicole is always a favorite and welcoming experience. Those ladies really know how to make you feel welcome. Taking the time to show you where things are. Their knowledge and know how counter experience is swift and thorough. Service with smiles that never seem to leave their faces. Communicating with their butcher like it's a competition to see who can smile the longest in between accomplishing tasks and customer inquiries! They could probably get away with adding a fresh fish (tossing) market in there and actually grab an audience!
I've been meaning to say something for a while! They've been around a long time and deserve recognition! All my kids love to "get out" of the car and check out the $.25, $0.50 concession located out the front!
A selection of fresh LOCAL produce is always available and you KNOW it's organic because the majority of the well established local farms around here don't need to add pesticides etc... the length of time their trees and soil has been producing. Why add anything anyway? ...the chemtrails and San Diego County Vector Control Program will conduct aerial applications regardless.
So, if anyone has a complaint about aging bananas or a small bruise on an apple they should shop Genetically Modified at the majority corporate owned turnover-rate stores just a few miles in every other direction. 5-Star really does out beat for local convenience and customer service. A old-school corner stone and asset to our community here in the North Valley area!
Even if they don't carry your "brand", all you have to do is ask if they can order it... less than a week and you have it!
My suggestion is more micro-brewery beers (Lost Coast Brewery, Mad River Brewery) and Lambic Belgium brews:: (raspberry (framboise), peach (pêche), blackcurrant (cassis), grape (druif), or strawberry (aardbei), as either whole fruit or syrup. Other, rarer fruit lambic flavorings include apple (pomme), banana (banane), pineapple (ananas), apricot (abricotier), plum (prunier), cloudberry (plaquebière), lemon (citron), and blueberry (bleuet))!!
Thanks Nicole, Rachel & Gelasio for always making my 5-Star experiences just that, 5-STAR! read more
