The service at Papas bbq in Pasadena is the worst. Today I went to the drive through just to wait about 15 minutes without anybody asking me or telling me they will be back in half an hour. I had to ask through the mic if thy were going to take my order. No response. After 10 more minutes someone asked me for the order. I order a potato with brisket but what I got was a potato with all the fat drippings and no brisket For 14.56. That is an outrageous amount of money for what I got. Then when I approachEd the window the server Mariah J, almost break the window by closing it after she returned my credit card. Then, when she gave me the food, she did not even apologize for the wait, said nothing, and again she slammed the window again. That is just to tell me they did not like that I asked if they were going to serve. I thought she was the only one there, but no the whole staff what's there. my advise to management is to send her to clean the restrooms since there she doesn't need to interact with customers. Went to drive through on a Saturday night at 7pm. I know, peak hour and day of the week! I ordered 2 potatoes and one meat combo plate. Paid for meal and was asked to pull forward and told that my order would be brought out. 4! cars behind me paid for the order and drove away. I ended up waiting for 9 minutes for my seemingly simple order to be brought out. Got home and the meat combo plate had 2 very small slices of brisket and a decent amount of sausage. Not sure if their BBQ plates are supposed to come with onions and pickles, but this one did not and that was a bit disappointing to the person eating it. Their green beans need some MAJOR help as well. Salt and pepper go a long way in the kitchen! Baked potatoes had 3 green onion pieces (thankfully I had some in fridge), next to no butter or sour cream and some cheese. It was just okay. I was disappointed. The same with the other potatoe that had chopped brisket. Mostly meat and not nearly enough of the "all the way" stuff. This is not the first time I've had near the same experience with this location, just the first time I'm sharing and more as a reminder to myself for when I think of having BBQ again, I'll go elsewhere. So sad... extremely slow service, they are quick once you get close enough to grab a tray there is a person there to ask you what you would like. I said that I would like the House Special please... okay what sides would you like? I could not even see what the sides looked like.... but she was persistent. I ordered unsweetened tea.. the dispenser at the register was empty, but "ma am the dispenser over there is full" oh, okay.... find a table and go to the other dispenser to get tea.... nope... the only tea they have over there is sweetened, okay.... Diet Coke then it is.... nope only the carbonated water comes out... no syrup... pour ice and the water out and walk over to the register and explain the issue... to which I get the response... I am going to take care of that right now... okay... I get sauce and pickles and notice that the dispenser has been replaced... go over to fill my glass with unsweetened tea, as that is what the dispenser nozzle said... filled my glass and went back to the table.. took a sip and... well what a surprise, how sweet and in my opinion disgusting this unsweetened tea was. I should not have been surprised with the fact that the dispenser was mislabeled. The customer service at the location is horrific. The workers in front were inattentive and very distracted by their own personal conversations. Management was just as distracted as the rest of the employees. I ordered 2 additional meals after dining in. Sat on the bench by the register after ordering and I was completely ignored and it was on purpose because I am a big man with very distinctive features. After watching the employees have a very comical conversation amongst themselves for longer than i expected my food to be prepared I asked about my food. My order was complete and sitting in a bag in plain sight behind the counter. Too bad I had to interrupt the employees conversation to ask for my food. A manager came out asking me what was wrong and why was I speaking so loudly. I was furious. She asked me what had happened and offered me a drink. WHAT AN INSULT! I got bad service and you offer me a drink??? I paid for my food and if I wanted a drink I would have ordered one. I want good service. My family has eaten with Pappas since I was a kid. We will never dine with or use any pappas catering services of any establishment for any functions within my family ever again and that is a permanent promise. Good food doesn't make up for horrible service and a free drink isn't the solution for an upset customer. Even called to let them know we were outside and after 30 minutes I finally had to go inside to see why we still had not received out order. So now after ordering, arriving at the pickup time and still having to wait another half hour we were told they were still working on our order..only after speaking with a manager I was told "we have no brisket"...yes they had NO BRISKET at a BBQ place...so how were they working on my order that consisted of 90.00 of brisket??? I came here with my family to celebrate my husband's birthday. What a disappointment! First off, the line took forever to get through and there was maybe less than 10 people in front of us. I figured out why it probably took so long. Almost everything we asked the staff for, they said they were out of and then a couple items would take 20 minutes to make! This was 7pm. How are they running out of items at dinner time?! The items we waited 20 mins for were baby back ribs and mac n cheese. The mac n cheese was runny and didn't even taste good. Also, my mom (who ordered the ribs) asked if they were going to bring the ribs to the table once it was ready and the girl said they would. Did they? No! So halfway through our dinner I had to go see if it was ready. They forgot all about it. I ordered the 2 meat plate and got sliced beef and sausage. The sausage was good but the sliced beef was MOSTLY FAT! I know there needs to be some fat on brisket, for the taste, but I couldn't even eat most of it because it was mostly fat!! I should've been charged for a one meat plate! They need more staff. I'm not going back. I'd be surprised if this location stays open. You'll have better luck at their other locations. read more

Been coming h here for years. Anyways hey the same thing. Half of a chicken cut up and 2 sides. They recently changed the rules so if you get a side salad or counts as both sides. My problem is when I get to the register and get charged $16.95 for lunch. I told the cashier she rang it up wrong but she argued that since I got the salad it had to be rang up separately. SAY WHAT? Check your phone in order carefully, because it WILL be wrong!! I pick up about $80.00 of Pappas BBQ on the way home from work at least every other week. Historically, it was correct every time I picked it up, they and Chick-Fil-A were the two best at getting orders correct, not anymore. This applies to the Monroe @ 45 and Pasadena stores. Thursday, Jan 5th, I ordered from the Pasadena store, got the double bacon burger with Jalapeno/cheese bread with all veggies, mayo and mustard on the side, along with fries, 1 lb of brisket, half a chicken and a loaf of their Jap/cheese bread. The brisket wasn't even sliced, it was chunks of brisket. The burger was a meat pattie in the to-go box with all veggies and condiments ON THE BURGER, with no bun for the burger. When you question them, they try to blame it on you. Nope, my receipt showed exactly what I ordered. After another 15 minutes of waiting they remade the burger and it was correct. The brisket was edible, the fries were good and my wife said the chicken was good. The lady who took the order did a good job, but the preparers seem to be the problem. Never once did the manager come out and apologize or make a showing. I think they were hiding. I'm not one to post like this usually, I love Pappas BBQ, but am now going elsewhere due to incompetence preparing takeout orders. Okay! This is another Pappas bad review. SMH. I went the 2nd or 1st week they were open and Gloria (cashier) couldn't get that I wanted a burger basket. My burger was made with cheese and asked for no cheese so had to wait for my burger to be remade and get my burger basket. The party I was with was done eating by the time my food was done. I thought I would give them another try. Went today and Gloria, again, didn't give me a burger basket. I said a burger basket with no cheese. I then proceeded to tell her what I didn't want on the burger and she seemed like I was speaking a foreign language. My burger came out wrong, and I didn't receive a burger basket. I ordered chopped beef and got DICED beef. I always order chopped beef my husband cannot chew sliced beef most of the time this was worse than sliced beef. In the picture on the bottom half is what I cut after trying to cut is smaller. The top half is what I threw away. The Diced beef was larger than what you would get with beef tips! I'll try and be constructive in my criticism of this establishment. Very long line upon entry due to one cashier and a slow process in line. The flow of ordering through getting your food is some of the worst I have seen in years. A young girl asks your order in the opening of the counter where employees pass through. Once you order and the yell it out (they must not have heard mine) you go past the salad then cups of ice then a soda fountain (there is a complete drink set up in the dining area) where it is a mess. The whole time the staff is calling out meals that are ready and trying to find a way to hand it to the customer. There is an interesting condiment bar and a small selection of bbq sauces. Now to the food. I ordered a sliced brisket sandwich with fries. The fries are large but not quite steak fries. The are very under cooked and there is no ketchup anywhere that I could find. The sandwich was very good but could have been better with a better sauce. The brisket was tasty and very well made with great taste and texture, easy to chew. I truly hate to write a review on a restaurant that has such a good main dish but, fails so badly in its execution of customer service. A few small changes in the layout and order process would no doubt raise this rating to a 4-5 star in no time. read more

First, I have to say that I'm a huge fan of Pappas! The Pappas off of Monroe and I-45 South has to be the best ever! But, I just stopped at the Pappas in Pasadena on my way home in Pearland. It was the worst food ever - Pappas is famous for their potatoes being so huge - this one was the size of an orange! What the hay? If I had been told when I was ordering that the potatoes were small, I wouldn't have ordered it, especially since there was no discount given. Then I asked specifically for extra, extra lean meat for the potato. The container that it came in was full - but most of what was inside was extremely greasy fat! I threw up on the first bite, then I tried to pick thru the meat to get rid of the fat pieces, but regular meat kept hiding it. Three-fourths of the way thru this tiny potato, I got another disgusting piece of fat and the rest of the potato came up. What a waste of money! I was so excited to get Pappas and this experience has ruined it for me. Don't go to the Pasadena location - make the trek to Monroe and the Gulf Freeway and you'll see the difference. Second time here since it opened. The first time picked up a family package and added slab of ribs. I get all the way home, I had the ribs and sides but none of the other meats. Had to drive back for the other food. They made it right and even gave us some extra desserts for the mistake. Tonight (a Saturday night) came by after running errands all day. There were maybe 6 people in front of us. The service was extremely slow. While the taste of the meat was good at best, it was luke warm. The greens were bitter and near cold.
