'Have you been to Pavarotti?'
'Sorry-where?'
'Pavarotti - the new bakery on Warrigal Road. You have to go.'
I had my orders, only what I found on Warrigal road wasn't an Italian bakery called Pavarotti but a Malaysian bakery called Papparoti.
All the kids are lining up for one thing and one thing only at Papparoti - their steaming, salty-sweet coffee bun with its lightly burnt sugary crust. You can see the staff turning out the freshly baked buns to meet the high demands. Every hour, they're rolling out the dough, letting the dough rise, piping the sugary swirl on top and popping trays in and out of the over.
There's nothing better than their bun and coffee deal for less than $5 on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Of course, Papparoti also has a range of coffee and tea options but I've never been able to get past the coffee and bun.
It's a simple formula but it works. If Eight Mile Plains is too far south, don't fret. With their winning formula, I wouldn't be surprised to see Papparoti franchises popping up all over the city. read more
