We tried the carne asada & birria tacos, which were both very flavorful and well seasoned. The carne asada was grilled very well, and the birria was tender and juicy. I wanted to try the O.G. Papa but they were already sold out as we came on a Tuesday night. The service was okay, and the place was clean and organized. Would def come back to try their burrito and papa!

Must try: OG Plate & OG Burrito w/ Carne Asada! Why: My new fav Mexican food stop, and it's conveniently located at a gas station! Love their OG Plate and OG Burrito w/ Carne Asada that is easily shareable. The Plate comes with a taco, quesataco, mulita, quesadilla, and consome. The beef is mesquite grilled so has a nice smokey flavor and was tender and plentiful. I washed it all down with a refreshing Watermelon drink. We finished with Churros and Vanilla Ice Cream, which was also so good. Churros were fresh, hot, and had a nice exterior crunch with a good amount of cinnamon. Def coming back and bringing my peeps. Notes: Clean spacious restaurant connected to a gas station. Clean bathroom (code required). Many tables for small and large groups. Worker was helpful. I appreciate their simple menu. Delicious meal - highly recommend!

THE DELICIOUSNESS THAT THIS PLACE IS OMG!!!!! I can never stop myself from going here every time i am in the area. From their consumé, to their portion sizes, to the quick service they win my vote as the best birria place every single time. BONUS points for their in house made churros!!!!!!!

Was hoping their Birria would be some unforgettable bites but it was just ok Birria. Not the best I've had but not horrible. The churro was not good at all, it was very dry we only took one bite. Inside was clean tho and service was fast, wish their food was better.

Amazing food at amazing prices! I highly recommend this place! Service was so quick and the ambiance was lively. I will definitely going back here, the food portions were great, I didn't even get to try the churros I was too full. The horchata was very sweet but tasted great.

Regrettably, our recent dining experience at this establishment fell short of expectations. The inside of the restaurant was excessively warm, the parking situation sucks , and the overflowing trash bins were a stark reminder of the lack of cleanliness. Furthermore, the flavor of the meat was distinctly unusual, and we have no intention of returning to this location in the future.

This place has great food! I had an OG burrito with asada, very flavorful and fresh. I'd recommend and return for sure!

Go with the quesatacos, all 3 meats were very flavorful and seasoned well. The birria burrito was just a bit too greasy. This place is worth checking out. The employees are kind and the location is pretty casual as they have plenty of seating and parking up front.

I ordered the loaded baked potato OG and will return to try their queso taco! It was perfect for dinner. Their menu is al a carte.

Quite a good experience. Came to fix my car nearby and was super hungry. All the restaurants nearby didn't look appetizing at all not even remotely so I decided to try some Papi Tacos. Consome was served hot in a cup of - consome is basically a soup with some onions. It is mostly liquid with nothing in it so don't expect to get full with it. Quesadilla was the best part of the menu for me - plenty of meet, cheese and juice. A taco was quite small that in the beginning I thought that that wouldn't be enough for me to get full. Service was quite good - I was asked whether i need the food here or to go. And then they even asked my name. Small details but they matter. Place is clean and located at the gas station. Restrooms are available with the code that you have to ask the staff. Generally clean and pleasant. Thank you for having me

This is a standalone spot that's connected to a gas station. I had to take my car in for service nearby and thought getting some tacos would be a good idea, because tacos are always a good idea. I saw on the map that papi tacos was close and I remembered in the past that I came up with the name Papi Churro for a Churro spot. I think they should call it Papi Churros just to make it more catchy. Anyways, the burrito here was pretty good. It was fried and I've never had anything like that. It comes with a pretty large cup of consome which is like the juice and drippings from the beef. You have to eat with a fork. Quick service and the food was legit. Not much of a vibe here. Think gas station diner...mostly workers nearby getting lunch. I'm okay with that. I'd rather pay for the food rather than fancy decor.

Papi Tacos & Churros Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Papi Tacos & Churros

Is there a Halal certificate posted?

It's posted on their website. The physical space has a clean look so their certificates of the restaurant in general are not in the front windows like other places.

Do you do catering?

Yes

Hi is the meat here halal?

All the meat here is halal, as it is at their other locations.

Is the entire menu zabiha halal? If so, is the meat hand or machine slaughtered?

The entire menu is certified zabiha halal. I'm unsure about the hand vs. machine slaughtering but the certification is personally enough for me.

A Legendary Slurp - Gone But Never Forgotten It is a true…read moretragedy for the Orange County food scene that Hakata Ikkousha in Costa Mesa has closed its doors. This wasn't just a "ramen joint"--it was a masterclass in authentic Fukuoka-style soul food. The Broth: Liquid Gold The standout was always their Signature Tonkotsu broth. You could literally taste the 30+ hours of labor that went into it. It had that distinct "frothy" texture (the bubble of the bone marrow) that you only find in high-end Hakata shops. It was rich, creamy, and carried a deep umami funk without ever being overly greasy. The Hits * Black Tonkotsu: The roasted garlic oil (mayu) added a smoky, dark complexity that ruined all other garlic ramens for me. * God Fire: For those who like to sweat, this offered the perfect balance of heat without sacrificing the integrity of the pork flavor. * The Karaage: Genuinely some of the best fried chicken in the area. Massive, juicy thigh meat with a shattering, thin crust and that addictive spicy mayo on the side. * Customization: I loved that they let you pick your noodle firmness. "Hard" was the only way to go to ensure that perfect snap with every bite. The Atmosphere The Costa Mesa location always had a great energy--functional, clean, and unpretentious. The staff were always efficient, greeting everyone with a loud "Irasshaimase!" that made the experience feel truly authentic. It's heartbreaking to see such a high-caliber spot leave the neighborhood. If you were lucky enough to eat here, you know we lost a heavy hitter. To the team at Ikkousha: thank you for the memories and the best bowls in the city. You'll be sorely missed! Note: For those still craving that specific broth, their Torrance locations are still holding it down--definitely worth the drive to keep the dream alive. Come back to OC! !

As a heads-up, this place can fill up pretty quickly, especially for parties larger than three, but there's plenty of seating for parties of two! I always get the combo special, which includes any of their ramen bowls paired with one of the eligible sides or rolls. My go-to is the spicy tonkotsu ramen without bean sprouts or mushrooms. For the combo, I usually get the spicy tuna crispy rice along with my go-to ramen. What I love most about Ramen Mura is the quality of their broth and how they consistently nail the spice level. This is a great spot for spicy ramen if you want a noticeable kick without having the heat completely overpower the flavor. I used to come here pretty frequently last year, at one point even once a week, and one of the biggest reasons was the consistency of both the food and customer service. Unfortunately, today's experience with the service was quite disappointing. I'm not sure if it was just an off day, but it was a pretty bizarre experience. Shortly after we received our food, my sister and I realized we were still hungry and wanted to order an extra serving of noodles each. We were about halfway through our ramen bowls, so we put in the order, hoping the extra noodles would arrive around the time we finished our initial servings. About 10 minutes passed, and we had both finished our ramen, but our extra noodles were nowhere to be found. We started visibly looking around for assistance, and although the staff noticed us looking, no one acknowledged us. They seemed particularly attentive to other tables, which made the situation even more frustrating since we were clearly trying to get someone's attention. What made it even stranger was that when we initially ordered the extra noodles, our server relayed the order to the chef, who then started staring at us. It almost seemed like he was questioning why we wanted more noodles or thought we were ordering too much, but I can't say for sure what he was thinking. We eventually asked another waiter about our order, and he told us the noodles would be out in a few minutes. By that point, my broth was getting cold, so we told him we no longer wanted them. Suddenly, he responded, "Actually, it's coming out right now." Oh, really? Interesting timing. We requested canceling the order, but then felt pressured to taking the extra sides of noodles since "suddenly" it was ready even though our broth was cold at this point. Anyways, the food was tasty as always! Despite today's unusual and frustrating experience, I do want to give credit where it's due. When I visited more frequently, this place genuinely was top-notch in both food and service. The owner has always been incredibly kind and makes an effort to ensure everyone is enjoying their meal, which I really appreciate. I'd still recommend giving Ramen Mura a try, especially for the flavorful broth and well-balanced spicy ramen. While today's service experience was disappointing, it doesn't completely erase the many great experiences I've had here in the past. I've also noticed they get quite a few takeout orders, so that could be worth checking out, too!

It was pretty crowded inside, but our food came out pretty quickly. The ramen came out first, and then the chicken. My daughter and I shared the Tonkotsu Ramen ($19.40) and a crispy chicken ($1.90). The ramen was absolutely delicious. Deep flavorful and rich broth with lots of veggies and 2 huge slices of pork belly and expertly cooked jammy egg. You have the option of choosing thin noodles over the default, thick noodles. We went with a thick noodles and it was perfectly cooked. I'd highly recommend the Tonkatsu Ramen! They automatically tack on 17% service charge. Contactless payment at the table. It's super easy. The only negative thing about a space is that it's very loud. Would be nice if they modified the wall to somehow absorb some of the noise. Can't wait to come back here again!

We were sitting right there, waiting, while an entire party that arrived at the same time as us was served and finished their meal. Not once did anyone seem to notice or address the fact that we were still waiting. I wasted gas driving here and valuable time expecting the same experience we've come to enjoy from one of our favorite restaurants.
