Papi's shares the kitchen space with Gee's BBQ, so you get the same friendly service, quick turnaround, and fresh, quality food--but with a completely different flavor profile. And one of the things I really appreciated is that the Papi's side has indoor, air-conditioned seating, which is especially nice when you're visiting on a hot Southern California day. We ordered a pretty wide variety: birria tacos, rice and beans, a Jamaica agua fresca, an asada taco, a birria quesadilla, and two keto tacos--one chicken and one birria. The birria tacos were excellent. Tender, flavorful beef, plenty of cheesy goodness, and that rich consommé for dipping. Birria is clearly one of Papi's specialties, and it shows--the current menu describes the birria as slow-cooked for six hours and served with cheese, onion and cilantro. The birria quesadilla was another winner. Basically all the things that make birria tacos great, but in a big, cheesy, crispy quesadilla. Definitely something I'd order again. The carne asada taco was also really good--simple, flavorful and satisfying. And I have to give Papi's extra credit for the keto tacos. These aren't prominently featured on the in-store menu, but they can be found online, and they're a great option if you're looking for something lower-carb without having to settle for a boring meal. We tried both chicken and birria, and both were delicious. The rice and beans made for a great accompaniment, and the Jamaica agua fresca was exactly what I wanted alongside all that savory food--refreshing, lightly sweet and a great complement to the tacos. Quesa birria taco was flavorful with typical birria spices. The meat was well seasoned and not oily. The tortilla was the perfect blend of crispy and soft. The meat has a lot of juice which can result in a soggy tortilla. This was NOT the case, they have their tortilla texture down to a science. The carne asada taco was a thumbs up as well. Asada meat was well done with a few pieces of gristle which I found off putting but overall a terrific taco. The churros were great the first time that I had them (A coworker ordered them via Doordash last week). This planted the craving seed for tonight's taco and churro run. After we finished the tacos I was excited for the churros. I was sad to receive cold hard old churros. I could not even cut through it with the knife and fork. I asked for a replacement since these were NOT edible. They were promptly replaced. These were very good, warm crispy with a soft chewy center. The second set definitely turned things around. Our 2nd time here and we've enjoyed both visits. My nephew is a mulita fan so we look for places that over this. They have them along with tacos, quesotacos, quesadillas and you can pick the meats you want along with birria. Prices are reasonable. Quite a good experience. Came to fix my car nearby and was super hungry. All the restaurants nearby didn't look appetizing at all not even remotely so I decided to try some Papi Tacos. Consome was served hot in a cup of - consome is basically a soup with some onions. It is mostly liquid with nothing in it so don't expect to get full with it. Paid $2.75 each for a beef birria and polo asado. Tacos were so good, probably some of the best tacos I've ever had. The wait was a little long, but it was worth it.
