As the others have said, it's off the main road in Shawlands but it would take less than 2 minutes to walk there, so it's worth a diversion. It's a sweet gift shop with a focus on sewing stuff too - you can learn how to make your own cushion covers, for example. I was in looking for a little housewarming gift and card for a friend and loved having a nosey around while the woman working offered me helpful suggestions and showed me some of the new stuff they had in. They have a big range of stuff; from jams and fudge, to candles, prints, kids clothes/toys, lovely fabrics and cushions, bunting and some jewellery bits and bobs. I liked how it's all presented and easy to find something nice without too much bother - I ended up just grabbing a card (The Grey Earl batboy card) and a wee tote bag as a present which was under a tenner. There is a delightful range of decorated diaries which caught my eye, exquisite jewellery, elegant handbags, Arran Aromatics, soaps and lovely scented candles something in every price range. There's a large display of top quality Christmas decorations and ornaments too. The young man who was serving there today was friendly, chatty and helpful. Hmmm?! It was only when I was heading for a wee bite to eat I saw this lovely looking shop. It was like a ray of light hit me, and I knew as soon as I walked in I would be able to find "something special". The lady was absolutely lovely and a great help. I explained what it was for and she came up with a candle beautifully wrapped with a personalised tag with my friend's name and saying happy 50th. It was perfect! The shop was beautifully laid out with lots of varied gifts for all occasions you can think of. Upstairs I found out was a wee coffee shop, but it was shut the time I got there, it's only opened for a while from 9.30am - 4.30pm. The lady told me they have lots of homemade goodies and their coffee is sourced from Matthew Algie. I will definitely need to stop by for their coffee shop next time. My friend was absolutely delighted with her present, so much so, she asked me where I had got it as she wanted to get something similar for her friend's birthday. Result! I cannot wait to go back, guess who's gonna be trying out a mocha?!

Unfortunately, Herself had the inside track on this flyby, and before I could do anything I was unceremoniously yanked into the shop as she had been seduced by some trinket in the (admittedly very attractive) window display. Before five minutes had passed, she had grabbed several items from the clothes rail by the door and was heading rearwards to the changing room to try them on, while I mooched around like the long-suffering husband I am, trying not to look like a shoplifter as I browsed the goodies on display. Both the ladies on duty were very chatty and friendly, which makes all the difference in these small gift shops - although the sample dish of tablet on the counter also helped it must be said. They have a great selection of Scottish- and Glasgow-themed knick-knacks on display as well as more generic items, so you'll have no trouble in finding a gift for that special person in your life. However, although I was impressed with several items and earmarked them for future gift purchases (I particularly liked the hanging jam jar lights), on this occasion I managed to escape with my wallet intact. Not so my good lady, who came away feeling very pleased with herself and her purchases.

Lovely little shop. Lovely cards, gifts & merchandise but the older lady shop owner is one of the…read morerudest people I have encountered. I have seen her purposefully shut the shop grate on someone's head before, I think because the women was looking in the door as she was closing. I had to help the injured lady down the road. When you go in there is no customer service & no please or thank you at the till. Just a nasty scowl the entire transaction. However if you get any other staff member it's the complete opposite experience. You have the deals & merchandise explained to you & offered gift wrapping the works. The older lady with glasses really does let this place down. I peep in to see if she is there before shopping there. Real shame as I love to shop local but she doesn't seem grateful for the custom.

The store is much bigger than the Byres road branch, but doesn't have as much cook ware. This store is big and bright.. Along most of the walls is a great selection of cards for all kinds of occasions, always check the prices as some of the cards can be expensive. They also have a great selection of gifts and nice things to buy to treat yourself. I bought some birthday cards and the staff were lovely and helpful.

I hadn't been to the Silverburn one before and it's bigger than it looks as there's an extra area onto the back. I was looking for something in particular and while they had it, it still wasn't quite right so I didn't buy it (vague-Yelping). I would have loved to treat myself to a present while I was there but managed to restrain myself, but I will probably be back for the Drawing for Foodies book. I always like the range they have at Papyrus and feel like they stock good quality stuff that isn't too expensive. I can see I'll be buying many gifts here in the future.

Paper Plane is one of them, especially if you're looking for a gift (for yourself, or someone else). There's nice crafting kits, as well as lots of things for kids. A nice range of mugs, jewellery, wedding stationery, books, artwork, candles - typical gift shop supplies. There isn't much that falls into the realm of "tat" which is always a good sign. They had on display a Lisa Donati (formerly Psychopants) tea towel - "You will always find me in the kitchen at parties" which always makes me giggle, so obviously they're stocking local artists which is great to see. I'd recommend you spend a day of your weekend heading to check out some of the delights of Skirving Street and make sure that you leave plenty of time for a nosey around here! As Jennie H mentioned, it probably is on the pricier side but it's worth a look all the same.

A lot of it is a wee bit expensive for me I have bought a few unusual presents for people here. They also do a good range of cards and I use it a lot for that. They stock some nice local things - I have a Shawlands mug I bought here and one year they did Xmas cards by a local artist showing people shopping on Skirving Street in the snow. It's one of the shops that helps make Skirving Street such an interesting place to shop.

Sadly, they only had a Scots patter one, not the Weegie version, so my search continued. But it looks like a nice wee store if you're looking for a gift or greetings cards. With the additional 10% check in discount I felt positively virtuous and absolved of all the sinning I had just been committing in Waterstones. Where my restrained buying for other people plans had failed spectacularly. By the time I had reached the till I had already decided this was going to be a five star review but then the wonderful staff at the till tried to help me lug the buggy up the stairs. I say tried because I may have been using the handy basket at the bottom of the buggy to hide all the books bought in Waterstones, meaning that the buggy weighed more than a family hatchback and actually couldn't be lifted even by two people and Puff just had to suck up bumped up the stairs. A great wee shop that I'll probably be back in again before Christmas. If only because I need some of the amazing Christmas cards with huge Rudolph noses and really my tree isn't going to be finished until I have a rocket decoration hanging from it.
