A step up from the usual card / gift shop, Papyrus manages to sell lots of silly little trinkets, toys, cards and the like, without feeling the slightest bit naff. On a recent visit my favourite was a torch that looked like a bat, and their cuddly toys look very upmarket and well made. If you're after a greetings card, I'd make this place your first stop. They're a lot less tacky than the lame humour / cheesy verses you'll find in places like Clintons.

You have to love Papyrus really. It's the lovely-shop equivelant of a price comparison website that seems to seek out all the loveliest of last-minute gifts to save me the hassle of having to actually seek things out by myself. A cheeky combo of Papyrus and Fopp on Byres Road is a regular for me for birthdays and one I would recommend. Papyrus is full of loveliness, with cool cards and novelty books and quirky things for in the home. Love the place.

This beautiful branch of Papyrus occupies a lovely corner of Byres Road, filled with lots of lovely things that make gorgeous gifts for any occasion. My mum always taught me the importance of a nice card. Apparently it doesn't matter what kind of presents you buy, but it's vital to give a nice card and anyone who hadn't got this memo would be subject to some wifey whispering from my mother and would be frowned upon forevermore; How very dare they? SO, subconsciously or not, I always make the effort to purchase nice cards, and Papyrus makes this incredibly easy, offering up a gorgeous selection of unique and quirky cards that often cost less than their card shop competitors. There are tons of other great things to buy here, including sweet stationery, pretty purses and beautiful brollies, as well as the prettiest homeware and accessories. Everything is of the highest quality and would be a welcome addition to any home. As I said, the perfect place for gifts, even if they do happen to be for yourself...

If you're in a jam and need a quick gift, Papyrus is the place to go! Upstairs they have a ton of cute greeting cards and all kinds of fun little gifts for all ages-notebooks, candles, jewelry, home decor, and a just TON of other quirky stuff. Downstairs they have a wide variety of kitchen gadgets and supplies, a fun place to peruse for yourself or for others. Great find on Byres Road!

Nicer than the average card/gift place but they do tend to add the extra pricing to remind you of that fact.

Unfortunately, Herself had the inside track on this flyby, and before I could do anything I was unceremoniously yanked into the shop as she had been seduced by some trinket in the (admittedly very attractive) window display. Before five minutes had passed, she had grabbed several items from the clothes rail by the door and was heading rearwards to the changing room to try them on, while I mooched around like the long-suffering husband I am, trying not to look like a shoplifter as I browsed the goodies on display. Both the ladies on duty were very chatty and friendly, which makes all the difference in these small gift shops - although the sample dish of tablet on the counter also helped it must be said. They have a great selection of Scottish- and Glasgow-themed knick-knacks on display as well as more generic items, so you'll have no trouble in finding a gift for that special person in your life. However, although I was impressed with several items and earmarked them for future gift purchases (I particularly liked the hanging jam jar lights), on this occasion I managed to escape with my wallet intact. Not so my good lady, who came away feeling very pleased with herself and her purchases.

They had on display a Lisa Donati (formerly Psychopants) tea towel - "You will always find me in the kitchen at parties" which always makes me giggle, so obviously they're stocking local artists which is great to see. I'd recommend you spend a day of your weekend heading to check out some of the delights of Skirving Street and make sure that you leave plenty of time for a nosey around here! As Jennie H mentioned, it probably is on the pricier side but it's worth a look all the same.

They have a big range of stuff; from jams and fudge, to candles, prints, kids clothes/toys, lovely fabrics and cushions, bunting and some jewellery bits and bobs. I liked how it's all presented and easy to find something nice without too much bother - I ended up just grabbing a card (The Grey Earl batboy card) and a wee tote bag as a present which was under a tenner. I was in for stocking fillers for the girls and did not leave disappointed. Smudge is going to be utterly delighted with her scarf wearing panda necklace and Santa was pleasantly surprised at the less than terrifying price tag. With the additional 10% check in discount I felt positively virtuous and absolved of all the sinning I had just been committing in Waterstones. Where my restrained buying for other people plans had failed spectacularly. By the time I had reached the till I had already decided this was going to be a five star review but then the wonderful staff at the till tried to help me lug the buggy up the stairs. I say tried because I may have been using the handy basket at the bottom of the buggy to hide all the books bought in Waterstones, meaning that the buggy weighed more than a family hatchback and actually couldn't be lifted even by two people and Puff just had to suck up bumped up the stairs. A great wee shop that I'll probably be back in again before Christmas. If only because I need some of the amazing Christmas cards with huge Rudolph noses and really my tree isn't going to be finished until I have a rocket decoration hanging from it. I popped in here on Saturday afternoon and, as is normally the case, I had nothing in mind I just fancied a browse. After thumbing through some prints and objet d'art I spotted an awesome yellow and white laser-cut image. This now looks totally at home in my living room. Be prepared to rummage a little when you come in - not in a jumble sale kinda way, it's actually part of the charm of this shop. The owner is happy to let you browse, pick things up and wander around. You won't be rushed and the staff won't try to up-sell. If your purchase is a gift, they'll even wrap it for you. And a handy wee 20% Yelp discount when you check in makes it all the more affordable. I'm so glad I made that decision. The place is a veritable Aladdin's Cave of jewellery, bijoux, craft wares, designer knick-knacks and generally precious things (preeeeccccciouuusssss!). I soon found a lovely bracelet and necklace combo that my sister was delighted with, and would probably have ended up spending a lot more than I wanted to had not common sense kicked in. There's such a wide range of really unusual things in here, it is ideal if you're looking for that 'special gift' or just want a thing of beauty for yourself. I think my favourite items were the glass bowl sculptures with the natural wood stands - these large thick glass works appear to have been melted and poured onto driftwood or tree-branch tripods, so that they have flowed into the perfect shape for the support. I have no idea what I would use one for (and I couldn't afford one anyway), they were just lovely pieces of craftsmanship.
