Hmmm?! It was only when I was heading for a wee bite to eat I saw this lovely looking shop. It was like a ray of light hit me, and I knew as soon as I walked in I would be able to find "something special". The lady was absolutely lovely and a great help. I explained what it was for and she came up with a candle beautifully wrapped with a personalised tag with my friend's name and saying happy 50th. It was perfect! The shop was beautifully laid out with lots of varied gifts for all occasions you can think of. Upstairs I found out was a wee coffee shop, but it was shut the time I got there, it's only opened for a while from 9.30am - 4.30pm. The lady told me they have lots of homemade goodies and their coffee is sourced from Matthew Algie. I will definitely need to stop by for their coffee shop next time. My friend was absolutely delighted with her present, so much so, she asked me where I had got it as she wanted to get something similar for her friend's birthday. Result! I cannot wait to go back, guess who's gonna be trying out a mocha?!

As the others have said, it's off the main road in Shawlands but it would take less than 2 minutes to walk there, so it's worth a diversion. It's a sweet gift shop with a focus on sewing stuff too - you can learn how to make your own cushion covers, for example. I was in looking for a little housewarming gift and card for a friend and loved having a nosey around while the woman working offered me helpful suggestions and showed me some of the new stuff they had in. They have a big range of stuff; from jams and fudge, to candles, prints, kids clothes/toys, lovely fabrics and cushions, bunting and some jewellery bits and bobs. I liked how it's all presented and easy to find something nice without too much bother - I ended up just grabbing a card (The Grey Earl batboy card) and a wee tote bag as a present which was under a tenner. Definitely pay this shop a visit next time you're in the area!

That's for another review. It's a small shop but it's filled to max with many beautifully hand crafted gifts. They have cards, lots of motivational messages, pretty much gifts for any occasion. The lady will ask if you need any help but I like browse as there is so much to take in. She's very polite and leaves you along. On my second visit I took along my mum and she was very impressed and thought the same as me. After perusing we came across a lovely Christmas gift for her sister. The prices are very reasonable and the lady asked if it was for a gift. When we said yes she carefully wrapped up with a bow. It was beautifully done and I know my auntie will love this wee present. I'm giving nothing away incase she reads this review. Just know it's a lovely gift. The last time I had chatted with the lady I found out that she also runs sewing classes. She said to check out the website for details and she runs the classes in the back of the shop. I have unfortunately never got round to it as I've been so busy lately. I would love to get back into my sewing and I think her classes would be ideal and they're handy to get to. This is definitely a wee shop to pop into and browse as I'm sure you will find a lovely unique gift for that someone special.

Many of which are made by the very talented Ali herself. Items I've purchased include bespoke hoodies and tops personalised with names in my family tartan. Nothing is ever too creative and Ali always talks you through what can be done. Her rhino range makes me laugh and then there's Ali herself - a lovelier and more creative person you could not meet. This gift shop is so much more than meets the eye. Go to her Facebook page for updates on her classes and what she's creating. Her workshops are fun and incredibly well taught. I went from being unable to sew a button on to a being a proud owner of a sewing machine who can actually use it to make things! I've made a tote bag, learned how to put a zipper in, learned how to embroider and make paper lanterns. Her classes are reasonably priced and always come with a cup of tea/coffee and good banter. Whether you're looking for a unique gift that isn't on the high street or for something creative to do then I wholeheartedly recommend you take a look and pop in for a class.

I actually thought it was more art gallery than gift shop so was very pleased when I realised they've managed to combine the two perfectly. The shop looks great from the outside, and if that isn't enough then the window display will definitely lure you in. It's bright, it's colourful and it's all a celebration of our beautiful city (Glasgow, der) which means it gets a whopping 5 stars from me. Stephen O'Neil is a digital artist with images from across Scotland. There's cards, small prints and then framed work so no matter what your budget, you'd be able to find a great gift. In addition to his own stuff there's a great selection of designers on display - Bonny Bling in the jewellery cabinet and Grafika notebooks, for example. When he came to my bit he had fortunately changed his mind and said 'Howsabout EK instead?' Yay, you betcha! I love the East Kilbride Shopping Centre or it's more the Centre West bit that I like best nowadays. It's actually split into several shopping malls, Prince's Mall and The Plaza were the first then they linked up The Plaza to the Olympia with the ice rink and cinema. I loved that part when I was younger. Then they covered up Prince's Square to become a mall then recently added on to The Plaza, Centre West. If you enter from the bus station it is a bit grim but keep heading through and it does get better. I normally park at Centre West but my friend likes parking at the Olympia. We still don't know how you can park in the underneath car park. Hmm?!! Anyhoo it was lovely to grace this entrance, it was completely mobbed, lovely to see the ice rink still as busy as ever. *Flashback* First time I was ever on an ice rink with my mum. Did witness someone fall and have their hand slashed though. I remember the paramedics and blood on the ice. Fortunately it didn't put me too much off ice skating. We mostly window shopped as we didn't see much we fancied in the sales. We decided to stop for a wee coffee at Costa in The Plaza. There's plenty of food courts and coffee shops about in all the malls. I love the food court in Centre West best. The one at the ice rink not so much nowadays, if you saw it you would understand why. It's great to come here especially when it's raining as everything's all under one roof and it's call Toys R er maybe not. Did most of my Christmas shopping here as there's a great variety of shops. There's still empty lets in the various malls but there's still plenty of shops to make you drop.

Today, it's a bit pathetic and every second lot seems to be lying empty. There's everything here you'd expect in a shopping centre; Topshop, a huge Debenhams, Waterstones and a selection of others. There's also a couple of cafés, a McDonald's and a decent sized food court. There's also a huge ice rink and upstairs there's an Odeon cinema and a library. It has a lot in it, it's just a bit depressing to walk through and see most of the lots lying empty.

Quite frankly, anyone who shoplifts from here deserves our sympathy as opposed to disdain. But you know, I don't absolutely detest this place. OK, so I wouldn't thank anyone for a gift from here but every city has these places and quite frankly any visitor who takes the stereotypes seriously is not the sort of person I'm bothered about. After all, I'm prone to buying the odd fridge magnet when I visit a place, but it doesn't mean I think all French people eat baguettes or Belgians worship little boys peeing. The stuff in here is definitely at the lower end of tourist tat but there's nothing wrong with visitors to Central Station, situated beside here, picking up a daft wee souvenir to take home. I concur that the Braveheart nonsense is a bit grating but hey, it's one shop. At least Glasgow city centre is not peppered with them like another city I could mention.

I've popped in here on occasion, mostly because my boyfriend loves his poorly-made Saltire bottle opening keyring and I was trying to find a replacement for him. Another time my friend was looking for a cheesy Scotland t-shirt for his American flatmate as a gag gift. They have the usual touristy guff, Jimmy hats, emblem t-shirts, some cheap clothing, mugs and keyrings with Scottish clan names and definitions aplenty. It could be worse. I've been to lots of shops in, say, London and Paris that are way more overtly stereotypical and crude with their tourist paraphernalia. Overall, it's a decent tourist shop, nothing is terribly embarrassing or poorly made, and although there are shops that do Scottish merchandise better, this is a good place for tourists.

Worse still - imagine if you got them a pack of eight door stops for their birthday. That would show them. Regardless of this fact, as far as pound shops go - Gift World isn't bad. True, a lot of their stuff looks and feels like it cost a pound (which, of course, it did) but a lot of it actually looks like you might have spent a fiver on it. Which you would have done, if you'd gone anywhere else to get it. The main thing that pops into my mind after a trip round Gift World, actually, is the fact that it shows you just how much other shops are ripping you off. As Adele said in her review below, you never really know what to expect from Gift World.
