I lost 6 hours of my life driving back and forth and spending time at the store for nothing. Emma the manager is a criminal, trying to extort money out of people. No call about the increase in price. She just thought because everything was ready someone was just going to pay $160 more for the same thing her manager agreed to with me the previous day. Horrible place, ripping people off. Not happy with my experience today. Came in during a monsoon because I had to get some cards to include in gifts being assembled that day. Woman looked at my drowned rat appearance and I think feared for the sanctity of the paper products. I left the drenched umbrella at the door and told her exactly what I wanted and how many. Although I chose pure white, I let her pull the rest of the amount from the wall and went to the register. This was my mistake. When I got home and needed to assemble, I opened the bag to find one pure white and three eco-white - which, next to pure look dirty. So, when trying to make ten equal portions, one person now has a half dirty and half pure selection because there was simply no time to go back. Considering I was the only customer in the store, was it too much to ask you to confirm the label? I somehow think this would not have happened across the street at Fitzgerald's. Next time I will not sacrifice the quality of service for cheaper prices. read more

Paper Source has really expanded in recent years and I can count on this shop for specifically seasonal gifts- Mother's Day, graduation, Father's Day at the moment- as well as generally-themed, thoughtful gifts and stationary. The wrapping papers and cards are so unique. Nothing like you'd find at the grocery store greeting card aisle. You'll pay more- some cards run $6 - but they are one of a kind. Paper Source can go overboard on some 'trendy' things like llamas, unicorns and sparkles- leaving less room for things you'd buy for your mother or a teacher. But I can usually find a gift here. It was at this Paper Source that discovered that making paper crafts is an expensive and time-consuming endeavor. I set out to make a custom Christmas card for my sweetie but had to buy whole packs of supplies to do so. For example, I had to get a package of envelopes when I only needed one. I learned my lesson and now buy 10 already made, unique greeting cards for the price of the heartfelt one I made. My creative side sighs in resignation to my bank account. It's for those greeting cards that I love going to the Paper Source. I don't go there for anything else and the paper crafting supplies no longer tempt my narrowly focused gaze. The last time I went in, I was greeted by two associates. I asked if they had a honey badger birthday card. "Yes we do!" Was the prompt reply. I love making things either to give to other people or keep for myself and Paper Source is my one stop shopping center for all of my DIY crafts. I stopped here this afternoon while waiting for my boyfiend to pick me up after his meeting. I ended up buying some very nice writing papers and a "real" writers pen, since it was 50% off. The chatty woman at the counter said I had come in at just the right time to make such a purchase because after they sell out their stock, they will be discontinuing the sales of pens. I thought it was a shame, but at the same time I totally scored! As a friend of mine said every writer and writer in the making should have one really nice pen and today was my day to make that purchase. It is so hard to not spend every last dime to my name when I'm at Paper Source. So I take a deep breath and refuse to purchase items that involve being crafty, because surely it won't look nice or professional, and I'll be pissed that I spent so much money. For others though, this is a card-making paradise: cardstock, stamps, envelopes, etc. There's also a wide selection of unique, already made greeting cards. But I came here for office supplies. I recently got a promotion at work, which included my own office, so I opened my wallet to splurge on any and all items Kate Spade and gold polka dots. I left here with Kate Spade gold polka dot file folders, notepad, notebook, and a refillable pen. Grand total: you don't want to know. I still haven't gotten around to purchasing their customized notepads, but I fell in love with a set of notepads with multi-colored macarons printed on them. Paper Source is also a fun store if you're looking for a unique gifts. It's a somewhat pricey place, so expect to pay $20+ for substantial gifts. I didn't find that this Paper Source was any more unique or had more to offer than the Naperville or Oak Brook stores, but I like consistency and knowing that I can get the same quality items and service at stores closer to home. read more

This store is lovely. But fuck it's expensive. I've been wanting to get personal stationery, but I can't see spending a minimum of $300 for 100 cards/envelopes (the small ones) - I only want to show off a little, you know, give that impression that I'm on it. Organized. Writing thank you notes is just part of my daily routine. But no, for that price, I'd hesitate to thank anyone in writing. I'd save the really good paper for those thank-you emergencies - not healthy. I would recommed the store for stampers and scrapbookers. I'd even recommend it for people who want high-quality and creative business cards and stationery and can afford to shell out serious green for that sort of trifle. If I had any willpower whatsoever, I would be able to walk into this store without spending money. Moreover, I would be able to escape in less than a half an hour. But I don't. As such, I have a stockpile of thank you notes, blank cards, and birthday cards, as well as some random things, like Teaberry gum and a pencil that looks like a cigarette, at my desk at work. Adorable little shop, friendly staff, excellent quality paper and envelopes (it had better be, for the price you'll pay!), but what's really cool about this place is some of the unique finds - VERY funny, sometimes risque cofee table books, bind-your-own-book kits, Chinese-takeout-style boxes in various colors and sizes, kitschy wrapping paper, cartoon and superhero fold-and-mail stationery, rubber stamps, witty notepads (such as the Sh*t To Do list), and more. Some items are only marginally pricey. You can get a premade stationery set, a small plain journal, a stack of 25 blank cards and envelopes, greeting cards, or some of the novelty books for a fair price. Some other things, however - their wrapping papers, custom stationery - obnoxiously expensive. Obnoxiously. Did I mention it's expensive? Because it is. Still, I love to wander around in here, and think about how I want to buy almost each and every thing in the store. I for one, will always be a fan of sending notes--birthday cards, thank-you notes, etc. Email is nice, but there's something special about sending/receiving notes. Paper Source carries the best quality cardstock and paper craft material around. It's worth a splurge if there's a special project you're planning or really want to WOW someone with a gorgeous or unique card/gift. They have a huge selection of decorative paper for stationary, cards or covering boxes/books. I like that they have the material to make your own books/journals. I have yet to try to do that but it's on my never-ending craft list. I mainly shop here for material to design stationary or card sets-- cardstock and envelopes (because I hate making my own envelopes). If you're an avid stamper, they have some really cute stamps/stampsets that aren't always available at the bigger craft stores. Lots of cute gifts and albums. (They carry my favorite brand--KOLO) I feel the same as others have mentioned--I can spend quite a lot here--but again, if it's quality you want, this place is worth checking out. This is the cutest store on the planet. I could spend thousands of dollars and hours here. I ordered Christmas cards on their website. When I received them the cards did not fit in the envelope. I contacted them and they sent me the correct envelopes right away and included a note saying how sorry they were. They really care about their customers. read more

I had heard about this place when planning my wedding, they have a good variety of items for wedding invitations. They also have a nice selection of stationery, scrapbook paper, cards, ribbons, and other paper goods. I went specifically for an eraser that says Shit! (on their website). Bummer, they were out. I settled for an "oops" one instead. The staff was pretty helpful in offering to look in back and in their inventory for another one, but no luck. I was disappointed by their lack of office supplies, I expected more cutesy file folders, hanging folders, magazine files, etc. Borders has more than they did, but I guess that's not what they target. read more

Cute little store with nice, unconventional selection of cards and toys and baby books. Their greeting cards aren't your everyday Hallmark cards. Some are actually funny. Those I saw were printed either in the US or UK or Japan. Yes, Japan. They even carry those little Japanese dinosaur toys. What's up with that? I asked the storekeeper about that and she told me this store actually started out as specialty store selling items from foreign countries like Japan. Those dinosaur toys have serious markup - it says 395 yen (less than $4) on the box but it's priced at $13. Some expensive jet fuel. By the way, it's a Chicago chain headquartered in downtown. The staff is quick and courteous. I'll be back for cards and papers, or when I'm in the mood for little Japanese toys. read more

If there was ever time to give a place more than 5 stars this would most definitely be it! I love this store for a trillion reasons, but here just a few so you can come visit and fall in love with it too: 1) This is a big one! I got my wedding invitations here and they were AMAZING. Not just "oh those are darling invitations" amazing; I am talkin' my-phone-was-ringing-off-the-hook-with-compliments-AMAZING! Seriously, everyone loved them. One of my bridesmaids said (and I quote), "It was like opening a box from Tiffany's." What bigger compliment is there? Seriously...What? If you are looking for a unique invitation, wedding program, save the date, or what have you this is your one stop shop. Their stationary is so unique and Destiny (who I worked with) is the best. She sat down with my parents, my fiancee, and I for at least a couple hours and helped us create, organize, and line out all the details with our wedding invites. It also helped that she was pretty up to date on invitation and wedding etiquette in general. I am no Emily Post, and I definitely didn't need to be with Destiny's help. Having her there made the process not only easy but also super fun :) 2) Who ever buys for this store has impeccable taste. They have the cutest cards, stationary, gifts, and scrap booking accessories. I am pretty sure you can even go in there and use their scrap booking section to organize and beautify your memories. Although I have yet to use this service, I will keep ya updated... 3) As someone mentioned before, the people at this store are exceptionally nice. They are always friendly and helpful but never pushy or overly complimentary. It is so refreshing and makes shopping in this store THAT much more enjoyable. Needed envelopes for custom photo invites and found this place online. Brought my invites in and the clerk helped me pick out a color suitable to the occasion and age of honoree. She then helped with some ribbon choices to use on the place setting. Very, very friendly and helpful. I unfortunately zoomed in and out so fast that I did not have an opportunity to browse, however I did notice that there are a lot of cute items to use as gifts such as table books, calendars, etc. Will be back! This is one of my favorite stores in Oak Park :) I love seasonal products, all the colorful paper and friendly staff. Even though it is very important that the staff is always there for you, when you just want to look around and don't need help, they are kind enough to leave you alone. It's one of my first stops to get some gift ideas. I don't usually buy gifts from there because you can find some of their products for a better price online (sorry but it's a little pricey for me). It's great when there is a sale or when you just want a treat for yourself ;) Make sure you give your email when you purchase something, so that you will get a reminders for sales, workshops and new products. I have been buying decorations from Paper Source for years. I buy for my home and for the store I work for. We bought a few things online. We got notified that a certain item was not available in the Chicago area. We called customer service and talked to at least 3 different people and finally located this item at the Oak Park location. We then paid for it and asked if we could pick up directly (and save on shipping) they said sure. Fast forward and my husband is there to pick up and they can't seem to find anything and tell me they think I must be mistaken... (sales associate:"perhaps you should pick up in forest park?")he waits 45 mins and after me calling a few times we give up. After all that they call back 30mins later saying they found the item *magically in the back. Don't offer to ship to me but to another store.... the whole thing was a hot mess... talk about customer service. read more

I visited this store today to purchase African American holiday cards. After being asked by the saleswoman how she can assist me, I asked if they had African American holiday cards. She repeated African American holidays cards in a tone of less than pleasant. I said again African American holiday cards she said what is that, at that point a customer tried to explain I then said Black holiday cards. She said what! at that point I said if I have to explain you don't have them. This poor review is not because the store does not carry such cards, it is the response of the worker. Lots of creativity in this store. I bought DIY invitation and they were a nice alternative to the standard wedding invites everyone sends out. Unfortunately, it's VERY difficult to cut the invites on inkjet paper down to size! I tried three cutters and none worked. In the end I had to have the actual invite printed, but I assembled as per package and they still look original. Beautiful papers in store. read more
