Very good fish and chips. Although a bit extreme,we drove over an hour just to come to this restaurant. The fish and chips are extremely fresh, the batter light. Even the "mushy peas" are good! Whenever we are in Weston super mare the family insist on a visit to Papas fish restaurant,if the weathers good we get takeaway and eat on the beach or sit inside if its raining. They do the best food ever,the chips are freshly cooked and the fish is tasty with a crispy batter,the kids usually have sausage in batter or fish bites.Sometimes you have to wait awhile for your order but at least this way you know its fresh!!! When eating in the restaurant the service is great and whatever you order is cooked to perfection and presented at your table with bread and butter of your choice. i have not been to papa's fish and chips for a while now.. but all i can remember is that they provide lovely flaky fish with crisp batter. they usually have long que's to get in, but trust me is well worth the wait. Lovely fish and chips. The restaurant itself looks a bit old fashioned but in a nice way, with celebrity photos on the walls and dark wood decoration. The waiting staff are always polite and pleasant, despite the fact that it is always extremely busy in there. Great fish and chip restaurant and takeaway. I have never eaten in but the takeaway is great. The chips taste like proper chips that have been freshly cut and fried and the fish is lovely with a great crispy batter. My children always seem to enjoy the battered sausage and the portions are always good. Reasonable value for money costs about £17 for takeaway for 2 adults and 4 children (including a couple of drinks). I would have given it 5 out of 5 but they don't do a curry sauce!! read more

The resurant is a beautiful one, which has been there for many, many years. The owner of the resturant is renown for his friendly bantering, which still makes local residence laugh. The experience waiting is almost worth the while of the very long queues that form. The fish and chips are still the best i have ever had, and people travel from all over weston to this chip shop for that very pupose. Which is why it is so busy. The value is standard, maybe a little more expensive than else where. The sit in queue is always very long, but you can make reservations and telephone orders. read more

A friend and I had travelled down from London in pouring rain and promised ourselves a fish lunch once we had dealt with the reason for our visit. We spotted Papa's restaurant and went in to order two pieces of fish to take away and eat 'on the seafront' . The staff were a pleasure to deal with, the fish was cooked as we waited and it was the best pieces of fish we have eaten for years. This is no idle praise as my friend is a Chef in a star rated restaurant in London. Well done, can't wait to find a Papa's nearer to us to repeat the joy of eating decent fish and.... compared to London certainly not expensive. This place prides itself on on award winning fish and chips and great customer service despite this I failed to see either. The guy serving (I can only assume papa himself) was very polite and was great at chatting crap to people. As amusing as this was after 50 mins waiting for fish and chips I just wanted to ram the piece of fish down his throat but there was still no sign of it so I left without anything. If I wanted a potion of crap I would have left feeling full but instead I left feeling empty and went to Winstons a proper fish and chip shop that actually serve fish and chips that you can eat and not just smell. This is without doubt THE BEST FISH AND CHIP SHOP in Weston Super Mare. We have a caravan there and we go every school holiday - including the whole 6 weeks in the summer - and most weekends. We ALWAYS go to Papa's. Every saturday without fail. The food is cooked to order the portion sizes are generous and you have the choice of eating in or take out. Phone through your order if you wish as there may be a slight wait as they get so busy but it is well worth the wait. Inside the staff are friendly and helpful. As in any seaside resort there are loads of manky places in Weston to get fish and chips. Papa's is definitely not one of them though! From start to finish the whole ethos here is QUALITY. On my most recent visit in town to catch the Drifters on the pier! I opted for a takeaway of haddock and chips, the fish being freshly cooked while I waited and proving absolutely delicious (why do so many people go for cod when haddock is available? Like having a burger instead of steak). The boss gives you a warm welcome and runs a tight ship with everything moving like clockwork, and there are a million sporting and spot-the-celebrity-diner pictures on the walls to keep you amused while waiting. Spurs fans are in for a special treat in this respect. I know from previous experience that if you decide to eat in you'll be well looked-after by the ladies serving in the restaurant part of the establishment.
