Everything on the seawall closes around 9pm so we decided to try Papa's Pizza as it's open until 12am. This was a great choice! The service was great, all the staff were friendly and ready to help. The cashier let us know all the options we had and was very helpful with our order. The vibe of the restaurant was super cute, with lots of tv's to watch sports, lots of seating, and cleanly. Pizza is one of those foods -- usually a dime a dozen, and every shop claims to be "world's best." Having lived in the midwest, west coast, east coast and the northeast, really no one compares to the northeast; however, Papa's is a hidden little gem on Galveston Island that is pretty great. What makes this pizza standout is they do not cheat you, they do not skimp on ingredients. God bless anyone who orders extra cheese, you're going to need a knife and fork, and bib, evidently extra means all the cheese possible and then some. And that alone is just awesome. You will not leave this place feeling ripped off. The staff is laid back and cool, considering they get hit by every tourist, they keep a good disposition. And are super fast. The ambiance is lackluster strip mall, and just meh, but in this case the location, being directly on the beach compensates for the lack of inside appeal. They offer public restrooms, but I believe it may be for paying customers only. If you love "hearty" pizza, while not the world's best, and not authentic New York style by any stretch of the imagination, it's really really good. I would highly recommended this place to a pizza lover, and to be found in south Texas, I'm pleasantly surprised, before Papa's I thought the idea of a decent slice in the area was at best Little Caesars, Papa's single handedly changed my thought process. read more
