Simple order took two hours! On a Monday. Totally ridiculous. And when I called, the dude gave a lot of excuses then hung up on me

We spied Carmella's Cucina Italiana en route to Renault Winery back in December, and resolved to…read moretry it out as soon as possible. Three of us visited on a Saturday for an early dinner. (Open Table reservations are available!) The dining room is a tastefully decorated space, with great natural light. The menu is fulsome enough for everyone to find something they like, but not so big that it's overwhelming. Service was friendly, attentive, and professional. The chef's father was a delight to chat with, and checked on us a few times. All three of our entrees were excellent; we tried the pork chop, veal chop, and the branzino. Each chop was perfectly cooked, as was the fish. Don't forget to bring some wine, as Carmellas is BYOB. A must try!

The atmosphere is welcoming and cozy, with beautiful photos of the chef's grandmother greeting you at the entrance -- such a heartfelt way to highlight the family roots of this restaurant. When we were seated, there were flowers waiting at the table for the birthday girl -- such a thoughtful touch that set the tone for the evening. Our server, Brittney, greeted us right away with a warm smile and attentive service throughout the night. We started with appetizers: homemade butternut squash ravioli, Italian chopped salad, and clams. All three were fantastic, but the chopped salad was out of this world -- I could eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! For entrées, our group ordered a mix of veal chop, pork chop, meatballs, filet, NY strip, and chicken parmigiana. The chicken parm in particular was not your typical preparation -- the chef truly elevated it to the next level. Every dish was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. Carmella's is a true gem -- thoughtful details, incredible food, and genuine hospitality. I can't wait to go back!

I saw that they won an award for being "Best of the Shore" in 2022, however, I'm not sure why because I didn't like this place. We made a reservation at 7:30 which is the time we arrived. Parking wasn't an issue directly in front of the restaurant, but I bet this area gets crazy busy in the summer since it's next to the beach. The reception desk is located outside which I thought was interesting since it's winter & quite cold & windy. We waited for 10 minutes before anyone came to the desk. Once we got checked in, we were told to wait right inside the door & we waited for another 5 minutes before being seated upstairs. The main dining room is on the 2nd floor and had maybe 15 tables so it's not a very big place but they were all full. We waited another 5 to 10 minutes before our order was taken. I had the Insalata Mista for $12. The balsamic vinaigrette was quite plain compared to the balsamic dipping sauce that accompanied the bread & the mozzarella were cut into tiny cubes with only a few on the salad. Very basic. Next, I had the Pappardelle di Casa for $26 which had homemade pappardelle pasta, chicken, spinach & cream sauce. The chicken consisted of CARTILAGE & leftover pieces from a drumstick & was bland. Normal places put grilled chicken breast on top, so this was not what I expected on a pasta dish. The cream sauce was literally just hot cream & some lemon juice with no salt & some slivers of raw garlic. It was very unappetizing & I only had a few bites of the pasta which alone was fine. The server checked up on us once right after we took one bite & never came back to our table otherwise I would've gotten something else. After another long wait for our table to be cleared, we finally got to address the pasta dish since I refused a box for the 2/3 that I left & felt like the waiter made it our fault for not letting them know sooner. How can you address something when no one comes by? If you like absent servers, basic salads & bland pasta with chicken cartilage this is your spot lol. It's BYOB so maybe everything tastes a lot better after a bottle of your own wine.

I enjoyed our visit to Anthony's. There were some missteps and issues, but all in all it was a…read moregood meal. First, they get busy, so I highly recommend a reservation (they do have a bar but that seemed to fill up quickly). Inside, it's well laid out, plenty of space and tables. It looks great. The service was very good the entire time. We didn't wait on anything and our server always seemed to know when we did need something. They serve a good semolina bread with sesame seeds, the olive oil they bring out has seasoning in it. That's typically not my thing, let the olive oil speak (if it's good) but it worked. For apps, we ordered the fried green tomatoes with lump crab, the stuffed long hots, eggplant parmagiana, and the grande meatball. Meatballs are my favorite; these didn't disappoint. They are large, not tough, and well seasoned. The salad they came with made no sense, but it is what it is. The long hots were stuffed with sausage and had a kick, but that's the fun part about long hots. They were very good. The fried green tomatoes and eggplant were mediocre. Both dishes lacked flavor. For the entree, I ordered the veal chop, and while I'm not sure if there are many other served in SIC (they claim "the best in the city"), this was great. It's old school, but it was cooked perfectly and seasoned even better. I crushed it. There was a side of mixed vegetables and potatoes, which were not good. Undercooked, likely made ahead of time, held and scooped out when needed. A few strange things: they have multiple tomato sauces, and they served two different versions of the sauce on the same pasta at our table. One was chunkier and good, the other was runny and flavorless. Second, they upcharge for any changes...if you want a different pasta noodle with a dish, it was $8 more. While I would understand if they were serving high-end fresh pasta, they're not; it's simply a money grab. But even with those issues, it was good. I'll go back next time I'm there and stick to the veal chop...because that was really good.

I must say the chicken was good. The waitress was friendly not sure who was responsible for the bobble. We also know that having a restaurant open only on the weekend isn't the smoothest. Anthony's it's a nice place and I probably would give it another try.
