Nothing can be said other than the pizza is outstanding.no words can describe it you'll just have to try it for yourself. Im from Detroit so you know I know pizza and so does this place. Oh and by the way I ordered the specialty pizza!

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Riverside Tavern on Forest Hill Avenue…read more I ordered the grilled salmon with mashed potatoes and asparagus to go for $23.00. When I opened the container, I was shocked to find that the salmon portion was barely larger than my finger. It looked more like a sample than an entrée. I have attached photos because words alone don't adequately capture how small it was. What makes this even more frustrating is that I have ordered this exact meal before while dining in with my family, and the salmon portion I received then was easily three times larger. So this isn't a case of unrealistic expectations--I know what this dish normally looks like. I called the restaurant to express my concern, hoping they would make it right. Instead, the bartender responded with, "The portions are cut how they are cut," as if that somehow justified charging full price for such a tiny piece of fish. When I asked to speak with the owner, I was told, "You won't be talking to the owner. I'll just give him your information." There was no apology, no offer to replace the meal, no effort to address my concern--just complete indifference. If portions have been reduced, customers should be informed before paying premium prices. If this was simply an inconsistent serving, then quality control is seriously lacking. Either way, charging $23 for what amounts to a nugget of salmon is unacceptable. I used to enjoy Riverside Tavern and specifically ordered this meal because I had a good experience previously. Unfortunately, this visit--and especially the way my complaint was handled--has left me questioning whether I'll be back.

The parking lot is small, and there is a pothole in the alley near the parking lot entrance that will bottom out an SUV. Apparently, there is additional parking, but we didn't see it in the dark. The restaurant is cozy, Hawaiian-themed, and clean. We were seated within moments of entering the host's periphery, and received menus and ice water within minutes. I had the poke bowl last time, and I remember it being chilled and gently flavored. The avocado and spicy mayo did a lot of the heavy lifting. It was filling and very healthy. My partner enjoyed the Ipanema Sandwich last time we visited. This time around we snacked on the fried halloumi (fried cheese and mint yogurt dip) and Lumpia, taquito-type beef rolls, with sweet and sour dip. We absolutely demolished the coconut cream pie for dessert. The pie was so delicate and lovely that even my partner enjoyed it, a typical coconut detractor. I recommend Little Nickel to anyone looking to try something unique and ambitious that veers from the well-trodden culinary path. The staff here were courteous and helpful, the restaurant was clean, and the food was firing on all cylinders.

I love the ambiance, it made me feel like I stepped out of Richmond and into a tropical vacation. This cute neighborhood restaurant is serving up what they describe as "tropical dinner". They have dishes from all over. Super cute decor and overall 10/10 aesthetic. We ordered some drinks. I thought both drinks were pretty good and strong. The food was what I could describe as "okay" We ordered the Lumpia and I've never had lumpia before but it was okay. My partner ordered the nickel burger and he thought it was good. I ordered the poke and I was not a big fan. It was a lot of food but overall the flavors and everything mixed up just did not do it for me. Otherwise. I'd come back for the drinks, ambiance and maybe appetizers but not a fan of the actual entrees.

The atmosphere provides a modern bohemian vibe, with plenty of unique art lining the walls. We enjoyed talking about a few of the pieces near our table. I ordered the pork chop and grits, while my partner got the fried chicken sandwich. We both took home leftovers and enjoyed those the next night, too. The hush puppies were amazing, if you like that sort of thing. Our entrees came out warm and tasted delicious. The appetizer came out before the meal, which is always appreciated. I recommend Laura Lee's to anyone who appreciates a cozy, bohemian vibe. It's a great place to talk and get to know someone, or even to hang out with the girls, I'd imagine. Beautiful atmosphere and delicious food abound.

We had tried to make reservations for a group visiting from out state but were not allowed to by the reservation. Should have taken this as a sign that groups are clearly not wanted nor welcome when arriving. The staff tried everything they could to make it an unpleasant experience once they were assured of an automatic 20% gratuity. Petty things, such as forbidding the movement to another table out of the sun, when there were many other tables available. I left early after being chastised for loving a chair but the family decided to stay. They shared that the crappy service continues the entire time they stayed. Those that are reported that the food was fair at best. Not sure that this sorry excuse for service is a great business model. Perhaps it is saved especially for large groups. Either way it would appear that the just do not care. Stay away.
