Truly a new low. Worst pizza ever! Skimpy, Over done, greasy, skimpy toppings.. And really sloppy presentation.

One and done. Ordered takeout through the slice app. The order was wrong and was missing an item. They claimed it wasn't on my order and I would need to pay extra. Had to show them the slice app on my phone and how I was already charged. Then was asked if it was actually showing as charged on my credit card. I was left standing there fumbling with my phone as they took care of their keno customers. They eventually looked back at my order in the system and saw it was on there. No biggie but a simple "sorry about that" would have helped considering I also left a tip on the takeout order and now had to wait for the item to be cooked. I could easily brush that off but then the food was so gross. $16 Entree Taco salad was comical, literally comes in a side salad container. They even topped the taco salad with burnt (literally charred) pieces of taco shells. Only had a spoon full of unseasoned taco meat. The Pizza was so tough, not sure what they put in their dough but it's so heavy you can't take bites you have to rip it apart with your teeth. If anything it made for a funny dinner with the kids. The place is probably fine if you just want to sit for drinks and watch a game. Which it looked like everyone in there was doing. But I would not recommend their food or getting take out. I'll be going for Papa Gino's over Papa Jake's next time. read more

Jill's at the bar it's noon and she's rude I waited over 5 min at the bar for a drink then I Ordered a chicken bacon ranch sub with cheese and it's bun is soggy the chicken is burnt and it's all you can taste and they slapped it together I won't ever come back with Jill on and I won't order this ever again I mean I have pictures and it looks horrible for presentation too. The roast beef reviews convinced me to give Jake's a try. All the good things said about it were right. However, I failed to indulge myself in their potato chips. It was a roast beef + pizza night for the first visit. Good atmosphere, but this is the place you take the kids with when you are encouraging some grounds for divorce. Not a lot of seating outside of the bar, and not a big place for the kiddos to run around in either. I liked the toasted roll with the sandwich, a huge plus in the world of roast beef sandwiches. We found this spot by trying to find a place to watch Celtics vs Heat and boy did we luck out. If for no other reason make your way here for the homemade potato chips...WOW!! I know I am not the first and certainly will not be the last to sing the praises of these heavenly of frydom. After having some as a side with my roast beef sandwich I made sure the waitress put in a large order for our table. The roast beef was tender and piled high on a toasted bun with a great assortment of toppings to choose from. Usual pub fare was done quite well and the staff was attentive and friendly. I'm not always a huge fan of sports bars, mostly the kind where one team's fans are always there making noise and taking up all the space. Of course, this being Mass. there are always Sox fans around, but I was pleased that they were few in number and fairly quiet. The TVs around were easy to see but not over-loud, which is great because the sound is basically pointless anyway; I prefer to talk and eat and drink and watch, not listen to the TV announcers. I also liked the seating, at the bar and at tall tables, which lets different sized groups sit around and watch, etc. or singles do the same. The food is good, solid bar food, bt made fresh-to-order. I had possibly the hugest chicken wings I've ever had, seriously twice the size of average. A quite good steak-and-cheese sandwich as well. Watched the final four game here. The waitress/bartender was great! She helped us plan our trip to Martha's Vineyard and kept the beer coming for my husband. The food is great... The small pizza is large enough for 2-3 people and the roast beef sandwich is really good. I would highly recommend this restaurant for sporting events or just a night out. Papa Jakes is a great local place. Their Taco Pizza is amazing...a group of us went to eat at Papa Jakes about a week ago and one of the members in our party ordered chicken wings. Now, when it comes to chicken wings, I'm a bit of a snob. I'm originally from Western New York / Buffalo where people LIVE off of wings. For the most part, the wings in this area are complete crap. YET..Papa Jakes totally blew me away with their chicken wings. The garlic + buffalo wings were delicious, very meaty, they weren't tiny, they weren't covered in tabasco or dry like some people think they are supposed to be. We have been here quite a few times. Usually get the roast beef sandwich, but we tried a chicken parm and meatball sandwich. Both we felt were over cooked, as were the fries. So will stick with the roast beef next time which has never disappointed us. Now, seeing a past review that spoke Papa Jakes as a family place. I disagree. We arrived and there was a group of ignorant half drunk golfers next to us. Loud, throwing out the "f" bomb at will. Also, seating is very tight. A large group of 12 people including kids came in and it was very tight. You never know if your going to get a table here as there are few. So, for adults, yes I recommend, but for families get the food to go unless you want your kids to learn some new words. read more

Chicken cordon bleu bites are typical frozen appetizers, but nicely done. Fried clams (full belly) surprisingly excellent at a great market price. Kitchen staff cares. Beer, different story. Tried two types of IPA? Not fresh. Sent it back. Next, Pretty flat. Kinda stale. So, gotta go with bottled beer. Wait staff was very friendly, working hard, and knowledgeable. Great staff. I have been driving by this establishment for 2 years and looked at it and went "HO HUM". However, last Thursday I went in. I was mildly surprised. The establishment was spotless! No odors and extremely clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I ordered the regular roast beef with tomatos, onions, pickles and mayo. It wa served "warm" on a lightly toasted roll. Also I ordered a linguice pizza. The roast beef was to die for! Sliced paper thin and stacked tall. I am glad I di dnot get the large one! The pizza was good as in bar style with plenty of cheese and linguica. Very tasty. Prices were great and surprised me that 3 people could get lunch for UNDER $30.00!! It was so good, I came back on Saturday 1/26 with my bride. She is VERY picky. We both ordered the roast beef sandwich, her getting the "JR." and me the regular. Also was an order of poppers, french fires and the infamous linguica pizza. Nicole, the bar tender of the day was very friendly, never let our glasses run dry and accommodated our every need. No, we could not finish the portions, so some went home. Papa Jakes, to the regulars is a place where "everyone knows your name". Good food, great portions, reasonably priced and also the CLEANEST restrooms anywhere. If I did not know better, I would say they had little elves who snuck in after every patron and scrubbed them! You'd think it would be an easy problem to solve, what with the entire North Shore fancying itself a roast beef kingpin. And they're good, don't get me wrong. But there's something about roast beef south of the city that just tastes better. Put it within an easy drive of my parents' house, and I'm sold. Papa Jake's has a low-key atmosphere, some tasty butter-and-garlic wings, big TVs, and a small, friendly bar. I wish we had a better reception from the staff but everything after that went smoothly. When we 1st walked in, we sat ourselves since we didn't see anyone around. The place was pretty packed, mostly with older gentlemen watching the Red Sox game around the bar. (This was a Sunday afternoon). Our waitress came buy ask what we wanted to drink, brought our waters and walked away. It took a little while for her to come back for our orders. Once our orders were places, food came pretty quick. We opted for the taco pizza and open faced roast beef sandwich with fries. Both were so so yummy! The gravy was yum yum good, enough to dip my fries into as well. The taco pizza was also so good, with ground beef, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and pieces of a taco shell all over. Perfect. We'd like to go back, maybe we will try going back when there isn't a game on and hope for a better welcoming. We'd definitely like to try other things on the menu! read more

Really like the burgers & wings. Would love to give more stars but the place struggles with consistency for take out. The first time I had their burger....best burger ever. So I told my hubby all about it....our medium was practically raw. Haven't really had that big of an issue again but still not consistant. But I will continue to order. Jakes has the best homemade potato chips on the face of the earth! The owner should bag them and sell them, although part of what makes them the best is when you get them hot out of the kitchen. The roast beef sandwich is the best I have ever had. It comes in three sizes, each at a great price. The service is friendly and the place is neat and clean! They seem to do a great take out business. What more could you ask for you wonder - a better pizza recipe. I can't speak for any of the other items on the menu. I have been a regular Patron of Papa Jakes for as long as it has been there at sandwich rd.Three to four times a week.On a first name basis with most of the staff.Usually a good experience,food always decent.I realized on 1/19/14 how much the staff and the owner valued our relationship when I showed up two hours before the Pats playoff game to grab a decent seat and spend the day watching playoff football with friends and family coming from off cape.As soon as I sat down the owner came over told me the table I was sitting at was reserved?I asked since when do we reserve seats in a bar.I have been spending my money for ever here never needing reservations.He said they are his personal party.He proceeded to tell me that I could sit at the table directly next to that one.I did.Then one by one different waitresses approached our table inquiring how many people were coming.We had a projected 2 other people to arrive before the game started.When they did not I told the staff that anybody who wanted to sit with us was more than welcome.The owner proceeded to come over after removing me from one table that was reserved,to insinuate that after we ate we were going to be displaced.One person came and sat at our table and two people from the party next to us flowed over onto our table also.We never saw the owner again.He wont ever see me again either. read more
