I was craving a gyro after doing a search for restaurants in the area I was staying during a recent business trip. I was happy to see a number of customers entering and exiting the restaurant as I parked the rental and was equally happy to see there was no wait, the small entrance was filled with customers waiting for take out so I was seated immediately without a wait. The interior of the restaurant was very clean and the open kitchen showed the food preparation areas were clean and clutter free which is always encouraging. My hostess, server and menu advisor Kathryn was extremely friendly, professional and enthusiastic, she seemed to be the only server on duty but provided exceptional service to all the customer in the dining area. The extensive menu is somewhat confusing if you're not familiar with all the names of the classic Greek dishes, it's not the type of food I each regularly eat so I asked for recommendations although I knew I wanted lots of the typical gyro meat and I noticed the pitas were homemade so I definitely wanted that and the salad and dressing that comes stuffed inside as well, my selection included a second meat so I chose the chicken souvlaki thinking it would be skewered on the side but it's actually stuffed in the pita as well taking up the space that would be normally fill with the gyro meat which was disappointing. I liked a lot of things here, especially the fact that I didn't have an encounter with the manager mentioned often in the other reviews, I would of liked more of the delicious gyro meat but now I understand how to make that happen when I visit again - I enjoyed a Coca-Cola product but did notice they have alcohol which surprised me since the layout here reminds me of a fast food restaurant. More of a fast food look, but surprisingly had a nice menu with entrees that I didn't expect to find in the restaurant. I had the surf and turf souvlaki with grilled shrimp and a lamb kabob and house made tzatziki and Greek salad. It was very filling and I would probably order it again at dinner time and try their gyros at lunch time. It was a lot of food. Will return. read more

We order lunch for the office about once a week. I recommended this place based on my experience at the Canton location. But NOPE, they totally forgot half the order, and even though they refunded the stuff, now we have someone without lunch! How do you not go above and beyond when YOU totally messed up? Oh no I'm so sorry to report that after living within a 5 minute drive we tried Papa Gyros for the very first time. The parking lot is always full so one would expect outstanding food and service. Unfortunately that wasn't experience. I will start out by stating that our waiter was new and just being broken in. He approached the table very quickly and interestingly enough the place was empty. Probably because of a holiday. The interior decor of the establishment was pretty dated with carpet flooring. He started off stating, "we have a Pepsi products." I wasn't sure if that was a statement or question. We each ordered a variety of items to assure we were getting a good opinion of the food. My meal came with a Greek Salad starter. The salad was very bland and hardly dressed and had zero onion. That's the first time I've ever been served a Greek Salad without onion, but perhaps they were out. My lamb chops lacked flavor and seasoning. Besides forgetting to ask how I would like the lamb cooked by temperature he eventually came back; however what I received was well done and dry after asking for medium. I ordered 3 as I had no idea how big they were or if I was receiving the rib chops. Neither did I server. He actually didn't know what Moussaka was as I ordered that also. This isolated portion appeared to the last piece that was sitting in the refrigerator for a week and placed under the salamander. The Béchamel layer was so thin it wasn't noticed. Very little eggplant and had a hint of cinnamon. The Gyro had okay flavor, but lived my post experience in the bathroom after taking it home. Probably won't be returning but they have a strong community in attendance so we won't be missed. Oh I forgot to tell you. Most people leave comments of how fast the food is expedited to the table. Look at my picture. We had to wait for a little bit as the food the first time didn't make it to the table but to the floor. We felt so bad for him and his staff coworkers heard it and never helped him. He apologized at least 20 times. We tipped him well. The food quality was our issue of not returning not the server. My boyfriend is a big gyro fan, but to be honest, I am not. Last weekend he had Papa Gyros for lunch, and came home, raving about it and said the Gyros were really big. I can't give you my personal input on that, but, he did bring home with him some baklava. Apparently, they have quite a large selection of Greek desserts, and I can tell you that the baklava was to die for! Admittedly, I was quite reluctant to write a review for this establishment after a rather negative experience with the manager on duty; however, I refuse to allow such behavior to sway my opinion. Having decided to try a new place, I walked in and placed a takeout order at the counter. The young lady who greeted me was friendly and very helpful. There were many options from which to choose, but ultimately I decided on the shrimp gyro and a baklava square. This is where it gets interesting; as I was waiting near the counter for my food, I took several rather inappreciable pictures of the interior of the restaurant, which prompted a stern rebuke from the manager - a short mid 40s female - who exclaimed "what are you doing?". Taken aback, I politely advised her that I was a Yelp user and was taking pictures of the restaurant's interior to use as part of a review. This seemed to only further provoke her as she responded " I don't want you taking pictures of my restaurant!" At this point, I laughed and asked her what law I was violating, to which she had no response and walked back to the kitchen. The gyro was excellent as was the baklava, so needless to say, the only reason I omitted a star was due to the bizarre, and abhorrent behavior exhibited by the manager, which was absolutely unacceptable. I used to love the one in Canton. But I think since they've expanded locations the quality has decreased. My daughter got a chicken skewer combo platter that was like $22 and they were skimpy with the hummus. She went up to the counter and asked for more hummus and they said they'd have to charge her. She said "nevermind." My salad had cheap iceberg lettuce and some was a little brown. Tomatoes weren't healthy. And I had no feta on it (which was supposed to be on it). It was very blah. read more

First time ordering food from here! They were super friendly and helpful, and brought my food to my car! the amount of food we received for the price was amazing! I had to take out more than half of my lamb because it was so much, I am just going to save it for later because it's so good, I couldn't even take my first bite because it was so overstuffed! My daughter is 5 and got the chicken and rice and she LOVES it! She ate all the chicken and just kept saying "mmmmmm" the whole time I highly recommend. We got an appetizer (the size of a pizza!) the giant lamb gyro, regular fries and feta fries and the Italian gyro all for $40. And there are at least 2 more days of leftovers here. Got a takeout order last night, and I was pleasantly surprised at how good everything was. The side of Greek roasted potatoes, which came with 4 large wedge pieces, kind of reminded me of a jo-jo but wasn't fried. It had good flavor. I wouldn't necessarily need to get them again but it was a good side. The side of rice was really tasty. My wife really enjoyed it. The hummus was good, and the pitas that came with it were warm fluffy slices of heaven. So tasty. The Cajun gyro was insane. Absolutely loaded to the brim with meat. And that Cajun gyro meat had a really good kick to it. I felt it in my lips when I was done, but nothing over the top. I'd get this gyro every time I ever came back here. My wife got the Philly and loved it. I don't think it stacked up to the Cajun, but it was darned good. read more

This place has been decaying in quality, service as well as rudeness over the years. I am Greek and have brought priests from all three local Greek churches. The last time we were in was about a month ago. The woman manager was rude as hell as always. Wow that went downhill fast. My husband and I live a few streets over and have been eating here 2-3 times a month since they opened. After tonight's experience, I am truly hurt and offended with the way my family was treated by general manager, Lynn. I ordered steak souvlaki, it came out well done when I ordered it medium rare. I had taken pita bread from my husbands plate for my hummus (he doesn't eat pita). When the server came back, I told him about my steak. He took my entire plate including the pita I took from my husband. The server comes back and says to me, "She checked it and it was well done so she is making more." Thinking to myself hmmm... that was pretty condescending did they not believe me that it was over cooked? They bring it back without the extra pita I had on my husbands plate added. The check comes and they charged for extra pita bread. When I tried to ask them to take it off I was told, "well it was served so we can't take it off" Yeah it was served because you took my whole plate when you incorrectly cooked my meal! Anyway.. myself, my husband, and two children waited 20 minutes to get our change. We were treated as if we were criminals. I asked to speak to the manager about the experience. She came out and immediately had an attitude. I was never offered an apology for the over cooked meal or having to wait 20 minutes for my food while the rest of my family ate, I was never offered an apology for the condescending service, and I was never offered an apology for the issue with them overcharging me. Lynn was defensive and rude. Her excuse was that she she as the only one doing the kitchen and the front even though I counted at least 3 other employees working. I have honestly never in my life been treated so horribly by restaurant staff. I am so disgusted and honestly heartbroken that we have been loyal customers for months and months and this is what our business means to the general manager. Absolutely awful. there is no comparison with the Canton PapaGyros. I suspect, the personnel are not trained well, or they are just dumb or indifferent?..., I had ordered spaggeti which comes with salad. they served it without the option of parmesan, without any bread or pita, just two dishes. I asked an additional source for the spkggeti and they charged me for that. Also, I ordered a grilled pita, and the waitress was totally ignorant when I asked her to grill the pita enough so that it wouldn't be uncooked like a dough. They charged me extra for the pita, too. Previously, I had dinner at the same place with friends, and the manager, or acting manager was also not good in his job. We had ordered extra pitas and the pitas were just like dough. He was all talking bs, pretending he was an expert, but in fact, I don't think he knew what he was doing. read more

We came here last Monday as we heard they have a Monday $5 gyro special. It's a smaller place with a few TVs to watch, a pretty large menu and strangely has a rack of alcohol to give out shots to patrons. Husband and I both ordered gyros and the bruschetta pita to start. The bruschetta was ok, pita type pizza with tomatoes, onions, feta and olive oil....not very flavorful but decent. The gyros were HUGE like one could feed 2 or possibly 3 people. There was so much gyro meet that half of it fell onto my plate and was not even necessary to have. Other than the meat the gyro was very plain with only 3 pieces of tomato and the tzatki sauce tasted more like sour cream and was basically smothering the gyro bread. My gyro came with fries which were ok but kind of cold, Husband's came with onion rings which he said were inedible due to no actual flavor. I will say that the $5 deal is great, but maybe they need to work on their flavors and portions. Also, our waitress was nice, but there was another waitress who was standing in a corner and staring at our table the whole time we were there....very awkward. I don't think we'll be back. read more

We recently decided to sample Papa Gyros new location in Akron for lunch, and we were really glad we did. It was right around their grand opening, and the place was packed! This restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating, and beings that it was scorching out and we had an infant with us, we chose to sit inside. We decided on the Feta Bruschetta to share as a starter, my wife ordered a chicken sandwich with cheese and Cajun seasoning, and I ordered the Olympian, which is gyro meat, your choice of souvlaki(I chose chicken), Greek salad and pita. The Feta Bruschetta came out first. It was basically a Greek pizza! It was a baked pita topped with fresh chopped tomatoes, olive oil, herbs, and smothered in feta! I mean smothered! If you aren't sure how you feel about feta, you'll know when you finish this dish. We loved it! The rest of the food came out next. My wife's chicken sandwich looked good, nice piece of chicken, slightly darkened by the Cajun seasoning, with the provolone melted perfectly on top. She gave me a bite and the chicken was nice and moist. The seasoning wasn't very spicy, but had nice flavor! My platter was more or less a make your own gyro kit, with a chicken skewer thrown in for good measure. The gyro meat was delicious, some of the best I've had. The chicken souvlaki was grilled nicely, but just a touch dry. It still tasted good though! The geek salad was all fresh, the tomatoes ripe, the tzatziki was creamy, tangy, delicious! I think the best part, besides the food that is, is even though we had quite a bit of food for lunch, it felt light. With the heat outside, it was just a perfect feeling.
