Meh. Salad options are sad, and expensive! With a meal a side salad was ONLY $4.75 extra. No decent Italian Restaurant should use iceberg lettuce, or should refrain from listing it so proudly as a key ingredient. The house salad had some Romaine lettuce mixed in, but it was nearly colorless and not fresh or crisp. A few bits of chopped grainy tomatoes were on top. The quality of the fettuccine was grocery store grade, and the water from which it was served pooled beneath it. I had to ask for more meat sauce because it looked as if the sauce had been painted on top! The extra sauce helped a bit but there was absolutely nothing special about the sauce or the pasta that merited the $14.25 price. Salad cost extra, Meatballs cost extra and were rubbery and salty. Prices are WAY overrated in light of the low quality of the food. Our server was the only bright spot. Madison was attentive, helpful with questions about the menu, filling drinks, checking in about the meal with some frequency, and taking care of issues she could fix. It's way too loud and unnecessarily dark. Cleaning carts and supplies were visible from where we sat, but it wasn't the case all over the dining area. I'm sorely disappointed to have had such a bland experience. Not on my 'one more try' list as this WAS my second time here. No, thank you. read more

Dinner menu at lunch. Went for a late lunch (1:30 ish) ordered and Food it was excellent!! After being served we watched several people be seated and ask for a lunch menu after being given the menu we had. They ordered the same exact thing we had. We Knew there was a separate lunch menu but, and thought we had ordered off it. Feeling duped I asked if the lunch portions were smaller. Thinking well we just have extra to take home so no biggie. we were told yes lunch portions are smaller by the waitress. Felt better like I should have just asked. Paid and while finishing our drinks the other couple was served,the portions were the same size.. just $4 less each.. Make sure you ask for the lunch menu since they want to charge more $ for the same order by not offering it to you at lunch time. read more

We stopped here for dinner tonight. It was early-ish (about 5), but the restaurant side was crowded. The hostess asked if a tall top in the bar would be OK and we said it would be. The table was fine -- the problem was it was right beside the door to go out to the patio. Of course, there was no one sitting outside this evening (it's about 12 degrees outside!!), but people were coming and going through that door. Finally we complained, along with the other table sitting beside us, so they locked the door. OK -- couldn't come in that way anymore but people could still go out. Don't people have common sense anymore???? After complaining again, the manager agreed to move us to a regular table over on the restaurant side, so we picked up our salad, soup, wine, and bread and trouped across the restaurant. Our server was great. The food was good, but portions are not huge. It's still plenty of food, though, especially if you have soup or a salad first. We both had the house merlot and liked it very much. We will probably go back, but we definitely will not sit beside that side door in the winter! If they are going to allow patrons to use that door, then don't seat diners at those tables! read more

Terribly overpriced for average to below average food and drinks. The place is so loud at peak hours that you can barely have a conversation with someone across the table from you and there's very little intimacy available overall--though the patio area does look nice, it has very limited seating. The tables' large round metal base makes positioning your chair awkward. The wait staff was attentive if inexperienced. In fact, nearly all of the front-end staff appeared to be out-for-the-summer high school students. It seems likely that they're probably manning the kitchen, too, and are responsible for the bland food. There are better places for Italian food in Springfield. read more

We made a mistake and had dinner here. The place is way overpriced and the food was bland and had no taste. I have had better sauce from a jar, the meatballs were tasteless. They charge extra for salads when you order a dinner. We will never go there again and we will tell everyone we know to stay away. read more

Service was great food is awful. Everything appears to be from a can, or from frozen. The locals love this place, but I'm not a local. The lasagna is a basic baked noodle concoction swimming in a basic tomato sauce. The minestrone has angel hair pasta (wtf) red beans, cabbage, and cauliflower, dominated by a tomato broth which is probably thinned out tomato juice. The simplest Italian restaurant in town is much better than this, and the one 2 blocks away is a 3 star Michelin restaurant in comparison. read more

Don't eat at Papa Frank's in Springfield. Lowest possible quality sauce, meat, and pasta; dumped unseasoned together and topped with the greasiest, blandest cheese imaginable. And then you pay $14 for it. Seriously, Olive Garden blows them out of the water. They also have the audacity to charge 3.75 for a "side salad" of iceberg lettuce and a few tiny tomato chunks drowned in restaurant-tub Italian vinaigrette. To call this place Italian is an insult to anyone of Italian descent anywhere in the world. To be fair - I was the only person in the restaurant that appeared to have any Italian heritage at all. It's like children that are extremely picky eaters opened an "Italian" restaurant. I had baked mostaccioli with meatballs. The dish was served with the meatballs on top and center of the dish cold. My husband ordered the chicken parm and it looked like reformed chicken, breaded and fried, with the same nasty cheap marinara dumped on it that I had. The best Italian in Springfield hands down. We go often and have never been dissatisfied. Baked mostaccioli is my favorite.

Enjoyed a nice meal with my family and in laws here will in town. We did not get crazy; just the Italian basics. Lasagna, Meatballs, Pizza. They were all very good. I stopped in today for lunch. The ambiance was lovely -- beautiful decor, crisp air conditioning, and a soothing music selection playing in the background. On this very hot day, I ordered a cold pasta salad and an iced tea. The salad was enormous, featuring tri-colored rotini, green and black olives, tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and a delicious italian dressing. The iced tea was perfectly strong and refreshing. I honestly wish I could give them higher than a five-star rating. After a horrible experience at a different restaurant this evening, we wound up at Papa Frank's. Although we are regular patrons of this establishment, they shined even brighter tonight. We sat at the bar and were immediately greeted with a smile and our drink order was taken. We ordered the baked lasagna and baked ravioli, a beer and a soft drink. The food is fantastic (as always), but tonight I asked to speak with the owner. I told him that we have NEVER had a bad experience here. The food is consistently great, we've never had bad service, and the restaurant is always clean and neat. If you get a to-go order, it's nicely boxed up and labeled. I think the owner was glad to hear that someone actually called them over to compliment rather than complain and he even bought us a drink! Don't waste your time. I ordered the baked lasagne. It was burnt and watered down tomato sauce with small noodles floating in it, topped with cheese. If I had run it through a sieve, there might have been one tablespoon of browned meat in the whole dish. This awful concoction should have been advertised as a soup and served with a spoon. Better yet, any authentic Italian restaurant would not put this awful entree on their menu. Totally overpriced at $12.95. Save yourself $10 and buy a jar of spaghetti sauce with meat and noodles at Aldi's and eat at home. It will taste far better than the slop served at Papa Frank's. Been to Papa Franks twice. Service was great, as was the food. Yes the wait can be longer than some restaurants in town but it just recently opened, so that is to be expected. I will add the second time we were there, we were seated and served much faster than the first. It has a great outdoor seating area and plenty of space around the bar. Our table of 8 had a great experience tonight. I had the halibut and it was delicious. The Papa Frank's salad was also very good with the house made Italian dressing. If I were to order the salad again, I would get the dressing on the side. It was over dressed for my taste. Our server, Erica, was awesome. We were celebrating my birthday, and she made it extra special. I got the chocolate cake with candles in it. Other dishes included the filet, the filet parmigiana, baked spaghetti, Alfredo with shrimp and broccoli. Everyone was pleased with their dishes. Lots of choices on the menu--I ordered the papa franks salad--very tasty and much better than the plain iceberg lettuce salad my husband got! I have gone to this restaurant since they opened. Always enjoyed the food and the service was passable, especially considering the low level of service in most Springfield restaurants. However, recently the service has become horrible. Wrong drink orders, wrong food orders, meals brought before the dinner salads were served, side dishes left off of orders. After reading some reviews we were a little hesitant to try but so glad we did! The pizza was excellent, some of the best we have had in Springfield in a long time! Nice thin crispy crust, perfect amount of cheese! Didn't notice it was any louder than any other "pub" style restaurants on a Saturday night but that was just us maybe. I'm from Springfield but have lived in Dallas for 30 years. Was thrilled to hear that the Saputo's owners have a new restaurant on the west side of town near my mom's house. The food was FABULOUS! Portions were HUGE! (and they were happy to box up the leftovers) Patio was so inviting and comfortable! And the staff - Katie - was attentive, yet patient, as we talked (and talked and talked) and just enjoyed ourselves.
