So, they packed up the car and off they headed. Luckily, for them, they ordered ahead, because as they said," The place was full of hungry customers!" As luck would have it, they bought fresh, hot, and tasty crabs and spiced shrimp. We came home and devoured our seafood feast. It was great! The price was beyond compare, they had a special going, three dozen crabs and spiced shrimp for $110 dollars. I called places around me and they wanted $90 a dozen, so this was a fabulous price. This is the third time, we have eaten at Papa Dents and the quality is always good. It is a little bit of an extra drive, but we'll worth it. So, thanks Papa Dents, now I am full and satisfied! So I used to go to papa dents growing up and recently moved back to the area and wanted to get some local crabs without driving to the wharf or captain whites. Papa dents came through for a quality and reasonably priced quick craving fix. They still have the same local family feel and I loved the fact that I didn't have to wait long for the crabs to be steamed. These crabbers are great, as are their prices. Cooked while you wait, deliver to the car when steamed to perfection, never had a mushy crab. I am a crab fanatic. I buy in the fall when the crabs are full and fat and preparing to dive into the mud for the winter, then freeze crab cakes and crab imperial for the mid-winter cravings. Friendly, will spend a moment chatting. This year I was out of town and missed their last day, had to go to a much pricier crab place for my final "freeze" stash. So sad. Bad business. I was a customer for years and never disappointed until about 2 months ago. I purchased 6 dozens of crabs and they were empty!! I left a review on Facebook and Papa Dents removed and blocked me. My review was only stating that I was disappointed in the crabs received as they were all empty and told they were heavy. read more

My mother called TWICE and asked if they were still serving crabs and if we could pre-pay for two dozen (that's $60+), because we were an hour away. He told us to come on down. We went and got money out of the atm, got gas, and CALLED him 30 minutes before we arrived. He answered and told us the exact location and address and didn't mention he was almost out of crabs. We arrive and we see that he has packed up his entire trailer and left. I look on FB and it says he sold out 18 minutes before we arrived... which is 13 minutes AFTER we called him, the SECOND time! I'm sorry but that is really trash and bad customer service. We wasted time, money, and energy trying to support this business and we got no crabs. I had friends over for a bbq and treated us all to crabs and steamed shrimp. The crabs were not big but good price for #2 males and were sweet and tasty. Seasoning was just right and not too much like some other places we have had crabs from. Very convenient not having to go to DC wharf. I will definitely come back for more crabs! The crab is so sweet and delicious. I've stopped by a few times and it never lets me down. Sizes depend on what they catch, and shrimp depends on what they have, but the prices are fair and they quickly get what you are looking for! Spice level was perfect. I give papa dent's crabs three stars just because you have to have a different kind of expectations and perspectives! Crabs from papa dents are fantastic, cheap, and delicious. But, you should know some things before you go. 1. Find the truck (usually in the gas station nearby the Leesylvania State park 2. No place to sit there - FYI 3. They are pretty generous with crabs! 4. Crabs may be missing legs - but when you get like a full bushel or half bushel - who has time or energy to eat the legs??.. :) 5. No cracking tools are sold there (so, bring your gear or prepare your gear at home) 6. You can find a spot in the state park and eat them by the water, or take them home and eat them This is a fantastic and low-key way to do crabs! I purchased a dozen last week and mentioned they were light although they were supposed to be medium, the young man said they were meaty but they were not. Too bad I had to go all the way home before finding out the crabs were horribly light, almost no meat. Very dissappointing. read more

I have been buying crabs from Papa Dent (and his sons) for over 25 years (he recognizes me by the straw hat I always wear in the summer but not by name.) He is the best place to buy nice hot Blue Crabs from in this and maybe surrounding counties. He often has a food truck next to his cooker trailer and they have the best fried shrimps you can imagine. They were conveniently parked next to the wawa gas station on Jefferson Davis. I got a dozen seasoned crabs for $20. You can choose from both male and female. The people running the business were really nice & I'll definitely be back when I have a craving for crabs. read more

They were delicious and not to expensive they have there male and female crabs for the same price One dozen is $20 I dont know if its just right now or always but they also had a special 2 dozens for $30 which is an awesome deal. Update: Decided to give them another try and this go around was a complete opposite experience. Purchased a half bush and received 47 crabs and a ton of legs. Of the 47 crabs 40 where large and the rest medium.. Crabs tasted great and 70$ for half bushels was a great deal this go around Purchased a half bushel last Sunday for 70$ for what I thought were large crabs, only to get home and find nothing but small crabs.. when I arrived one of the guys working showed me some nice sized crabs and told me 70$ for half bushel. Figured it was a great deal since the crabs where heavy and mixed size.. as soon as I got home a dumped the crabs out I realized they topped the half bushel off when nice crabs but the rest were tiny. Well under 4 inches.. Will not buy crabs from them again, very dishonest read more

I LIVE for this truck every summer!! It's parked right near my house in a parking lot next to a Wawa on weekends. The family is incredibly friendly, prices are reasonable, and the food is always fresh. I usually stick with steamed crabs but I got the steamed shrimp as well last time, and was not disappointed. I've had the seafood platter before and it was very good. But my experience this past Sunday has caused me to rethink Papa Dents. Got there around 4:30 and stood around waiting for about 15 minutes before being rudely told by the young lady in the truck that the guy in front of me was the last customer. There were no posted hours of operation and absolutely no courtesy in the way I was turned away. The young lady inside the truck barked out "We are not serving nobody after him!" Got 4 dozen "medium and large" mixed this morning for 25 a dozen - not bad price at all. The crabs tasted great but they were all small. MAYBE a medium or 2 but not even a single large. They cooked the crabs well and for that I will give them stars, but there is something to be said for honesty when selling and IF I ever go back, I will examine the size more closely.
