Bought the combo number 1 with whiting and crab cake and fried shrimp. Shrimp was 7 dollars extra. Was aiming for a Cameron's style combo . It was all horrible. Crab cake being the works. A flat skinny patty with a fishy taste and zero taste of crab. Worthless. One bite and out the window. The fish had a cod oil taste to it. One bite and both pieces out the window. The fried shrimp had more flour than shrimp, good portion. Ate them all, so at minimum they are eatable. But not worth 7 dollars. The last part was the fries. They are crinkle cut which is a plus. Huge portion. But tasteless. Ketchup barely helped the poor things. It's like the grease used to fry all this was not hot enough. None were crispy. A touch undercooked. Cost was 26 dollars. Doggone Crab Cravings gotta stop!! While visiting with my people's in NOVA/DC, I was craving my usual to go protein snack, crabs/seafood. My sister raved about the fish platter at Dale's, they had crabs, so it was on and popping! The place was empty and we were the only customers they had. The prices were pretty steep ( I wasn't buying dungeoness crabs or lobster) for blue crabs. I asked to see the sizes of the crabs before I placed my order ( you should also make sure they are alive before they cook them). Apparently, the cashier was bothered by my questions and gave me a screw face. After I finally saw what I thought was worth my purchase, ( the size had to be decent) I placed an order for 1 dozen female crabs (I find they taste better). The size was ok for the area I was in ( closer to DC/Baltimore), you would think they'd be better than ours. Although, they were not busy they took a very long time. I finally got my order and went to the house to eat ( not an eatery). The crabs were decent enough. They were prepared well and tasted good, nothing over the top. The customer service was pretty bad, but in the end I satisfied my cravings. I won't say I won't be returning (these damned crab cravings must end!), but it will be as the last resort! They gave me a lot of food and big piece of cat fish but it lacked seasoning. How can you make seafood with no Old Bay anywhere? The meat was juicy but breading was so lack luster. The crab cake was lacking crab and it was flat as anything. Also lacking seasoning. The fries could have been crispier and as soon as I opened the box I could see that there was no salt or pepper. Always friendly service and fresh seafood when I've been. Read a few reviews on here and had mixed feelings but everytime I go, the owner is always at the front greeting me with a smile with great recommendations depending on the season. Primarily known for their fried cat fish, I did read the review here where he felt swindled because it was a type of cat fish and yes that is true, however I don't believe they try to deliberately deceive as I asked the owner flat out and she did tell me what it was so it may depend on who is up front to greet you. Some of the workers don't seem to completely understand English so it could just be a language barrier but anyway, the fried catfish and shrimp platter I would highly recommend and if you want to have a party, grab a half or full Bushel of crab! I made the mistake of ordering the crab cake sandwich platter. It's a crime for them to call that a crab cake more like a filler cake with almost no crab in it at all. Very disappointing! She had the nerve to over charge me and when I brought it to her attention to refund me she got an attitude with me and argued she was right. Hard to find...coming south on Minnieville Road , it's in the strip mall on the right side BEFORE you hit Dale Blvd...the ReMax realtor building is at the end of this strip mall, so if you see it, you need to look to your right and pull into the parking lot. All that said, I'm not sure where the 5-stars are coming from. I found this place on Yelp, scoped the reviews, and called. The daughter who guided me in on the phone couldn't have been nicer. And she introduced me to her mom when she came in - really good people. But the food...I dunno.. The whiting and the trout were OK at best, but I'm not about to forget how to get to the Wharf in DC. And as for the oysters, all I can say is don't try them. When I got my order home, I thought that maybe they forgot my oysters; all I saw in my box was my fish and some hush puppies. Then my wife looked and said Those ARE your oysters! They had breaded each oyster with so much cornmeal mixture that the result was gamey and unappetizing. I tried to give it a chance - maybe this was a different way to prepare them - but, no. Won't be doing that again. So go with the fish (my wife said her shrimps were okay too) and have some pleasant conversation while you're waiting, but don't go there expecting too much. Came on a Thursday afternoon for the first time. Ordered at counter, although most people seem to call in from observing. Received my order in less than 10 minutes hot and fresh to take home. I got the flounder platter which was really good and generous. 3 large pieces of fish (great, seasoned well), fries (good, no salt, typical frozen fries), coleslaw (great, sweet mayo base not vinegar), and hush puppies (great). For $4.99, your whiting sandwich will come with 2 large fillets, 2 pieces of soft white bread, and a side--I chose the coleslaw, which was good. The prices are extremely reasonable for what you get, and they have lots of different kinds of fish: flounder, catfish, trout, etc. The owners are Korean, so you can also get bulgogi by the pound. How fantastic is that??? I also got the fried jumbo shrimp to try, and they were very nicely reverse-butterflied and panko battered to perfection. Even after the drive home, they were still crispy and delicious. The location isn't all that hard to find; it has many entrances, so if you miss one, just keep going. Coming down Minnieville, you'll see the Taco Bell--turn in there. If you're coming down Dale Blvd, turn in as if you're going to the bowling alley or CVS and drive around to the other end of the plaza on Minnieville. The strangest thing I saw was a man in PJ pants asking to buy just one crab... as long as the staff showed him how to eat it. Those of us waiting for our takeout glanced around nervously, wondering if he was drunk, hung over, or just kind of crazy. The food is delicious and the prices are reasonable. This restaurant does not look like much from the outside. I have passed by this place for years and have never gone in. I am so glad I was in the mood to try something new one day and thought of this place. My favorite is the Catfish platter. This was partially my fault because soft shell is not in season, but it was extremely small on two pieces of white bread and so much cartilage although it did have a decent taste. The coleslaw that came with it was good. I also got a lunch platter that came with 3 fried shrimp, 3 fried scallops, and a piece of fried whiting with fries. The shrimp are weird and shaped like o's. The scallops were decently good, better than I expected. The whiting, which I thought was supposed to be a light non fishy flaky fish is inedible. I was visiting Virginia from the UK (the land of fish and chips), and was recommended by a friend to try this place out They have a large selection of fish (catfish, flounder, etc). I opted for the catfish, which was very fresh. Fresh steamed crab are also on the menu. A little finicky to eat, but great flavour. But if I had to pick, the fried shrimp were by far my favourite! I could also tell (and taste) that they change their oil regularly, which is a must for me when I'm eating deep fried food. Will stop by this place again next time I'm in Virginia!!! read more

I ordered catfish to go and when I arrived at home I realized that it was swai fish and not catfish! I understand that swai is a version of catfish however, that is not what I paid for. Decided to check them out for lunch today. It is tucked away in a shopping plaza on a busy intersection. Once you go in its not an elegant atmosphere by no means. This is a small place with seating for about 18 people and no outdoor seating.I waited about 15 mins for my order which was not too bad. But when i received my food it smelled amazing and couldn't wait to eat it. Just as i suspected it was amazing not greasy or overcooked at all.
