I literally wrote 4 paragraphs and Yelp glitched and deleted my draft. Please make sure to ask them to charge you in Euros because we didn't get the option by the owner and he charged us in USD which costs us more. He's been in business for 44 years so obviously he knows but still charged us in USD which is kinda shady IMO. We decided to dine here due to all the reviews and photos posted. When we approached the restaurant, the owner immediately said "Ni Hao" which I thought was kinda racist. What if I wasn't Chinese? Mink felt offended but we committed to dining there so we did. He asked if we wanted to dine inside or outside. Since it was chilly for Mink, we opted to dine inside where it was 90% full due to a Chinese tour group. They all had the same dish so we figured preset menu for them. I wasn't sure what I was going to get but since they all ate the Ossobuco con risotto alla Milanese in Crosta, I decided to order that as it was one of the dishes I was considering. Mink ordered their Spaghetti ai frutti di mare. I'm not sure why but the owner exclusively took care of us. He also made it a point to bring a photo over of Jay Chow saying he's dined there 4-5 times in the last few years. Maybe that's why the Chinese tour group eats there? He was arrogant enough to brag about how much money he's made because of Jay Chow. There were lots of celebrities that dined there from what gathered looking at his wall of fame. I bet he didn't charge any of them in USD *smh* The Ossobuco con risotto alla Milanese in Crosta was really good and probably the best we had in Milan. They must be able to make this dish with their eyes closed at this point with the daily Chinese tour groups dining there. Their Spaghetti ai frutti di mare was decent but didn't have as much seafood in the dish as other restaurants and the flavor was about average. The bread and EVOO offered was legit though! I loved it and I normally hardly ever eat the complimentary bread. Food is good overall and customer service felt extra. If we didn't get charged USD, wasn't getting bragged to about how much money he made off Jay Chow and wasn't greeted with a "Ni Hao" then the place is 4 stars. Our first night in Milan and my husband brought me here based on reviews. The wine, La viarte pinot grigio, tasted terrible and the Caprese salad had ice cold tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella cheese and a tiny 2 leaf sprig of basil with a little bit of olive oil. I couldn't eat it. I asked for olive oil for the bread that was brought to the table and was given some rancid bottle that was probably only intended for cooking. Not sure if Italian olive oil says EVOO, but this one did not. I could have cried. The clams and spaghetti dish was just okay. My husband got three big ravioli and only ate two. I'd been looking forward to dining in Milan for almost a year and this was maybe the absolute worst Italian meal I have ever had. Do yourself a favor and choose somewhere else for dinner. read more

We didn't have a great food experience in Milan until we tried this place. When we were here, people were dressed a bit more formal but that might just be Milan in general. We were seated quite quickly, but weren't attended until 15-20 minutes after. Coming from America, it feels like a while. We ordered the goose ravioli, macaroni made in a parm wheel, and seafood spaghetti. The goose ravioli was great, and would definitely eat it over and over again! We arrived about 30 minutes before they opened and were initially told that we could just have a drink while waiting for the restaurant to open, but they then served us lunch prior to opening to the public. Papa Francesco is a hidden gem. My husband and I loved it so much that we went twice in a row for dinner. The restaurant is located right outside the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele opposite of the duomo entrance. The food and the service was great. I think this was the first restaurant where we were served so quickly in Milan. You will see Papa Francesco and his wife working along side everyone else, helping serve food,etc. The waitress were wonderful as well. My husband ordered the cheese wheel pasta that papa Francesco cooks in front of you. The experience was awesome and the pasta delicious! I ordered spaghetti with seafood and eggplant parmigiana the second night. Both were delicious but my favorite was the cheese wheel pasta. Considering we were in a pasta capital, I had high expectations for this restaurant and its food. We made sure to look up reviews and look at the menu - it seemed like a good option. We were there on a late Friday morning and there was decent food traffic. We ordered pasta which was made in a cheese wheel, salad with chicken, and risotto. The risotto and pasta came out cold, despite the fact that the pasta was made fresh in the cheese wheel, and the only dish of the three that was actually tasty was the risotto. The pasta seemingly had no flavor, and the salad was not worth the $16.00. But, to be fair, salad is never mind-blowing at restaurants. I ordered a cappuccino which was my favorite thing that we ordered. It had great flavor and was a nice way to start the experience. For the viral pasta, I learned why it was viral. This macaroni plate was delicious!! Finishing the pasta in the cheese wheel along with the presentation really made the night special. The service is good, but the food wasn't as good as we hoped for. The only dish we loved was the potato gnocchi. We ordered 6 different dishes. My pasta was too salty and the other dishes didn't have the taste we were looking for. I noticed there wasn't a line of people out the door. Instead, they seated everyone outside to make it look as if people go there. We chose this place using yelp. We were very disappointed. We will use the crowds outside the door in the future to guide us to the quality of the food. They also charge $5 for takeout out box but they didn't really have such charge. What they did was added a second water which was $5. I don't rank the stars low bc I want people to read my reviews. The next table ordered a cheese wheel. They used a no name alcohol to create a flame. But a real place doesn't need to have liquid flame. It's all about the melting of the parmesan cheese on to the pasta. However, they dumped already sauced pasta into the wheel. It's as if all was just a presentation and not about real delicious food. The cheese wheel is deep, so it could be just the rind left. So really can't get much melted parmesan. Real places have nearly full wheel of parmesan. I highly recommend going to a place where you have to wait in line. The panini and gelato place we went were super crowded but the food was delicious! They also charged foreign transaction fee. However, our credit card does that for free. So i really question the integrity of this restaurant. So to all travelers, this place is not adding up to be worthy. read more

Food was about what I would expect from a tourist area. The service was intermittent. We saw a woman get robbed on the patio by pickpockets, which put a damper on the mood. They do a table side preparation to loud music that is fun, but I bet it gets old after awhile. We ate here because it was close to our hotel and easy to get to after a long day of travel. The owners and employees were very nice, and that added a lot to our positive experience. I don't think they can help the robbery. read more

UH OH SPAGHETTI-O When we were looking for restaurants near our hotel that had gluten free options, Papa Francesco was at the top of this list. A place that has been around for a long time that features a fun old Italian man putting on a show as he whips up pasta dishes in a wheel of parmigiano reggiano that had gluten free options...we were sold! Or more accurately, we were duped. Our meal started with a €15 Caprese salad that was not at all worth the price. One not so special tomato with one basil leaf, accompanied by the only good thing we ate, some mozzarella di bufala. That was followed by two of the worst pasta dishes we have have ever had. Mine was supposed to be a dish from Sardinia, that featured malloreddus pasta and what they called sausage with a tomato based sauce and a pecorino cheese. What I got was something that looked and tasted like spaghetti-o's with sliced Vienna sausages. My wife said not to compare her carbonara dish to Kraft macaroni and cheese because it would not be fair to Kraft. It looked and tasted nothing like carbonara. All it did was leave her with the taste of fake mouth in her mouth for the remainder of the evening. She also wanted me to add that she appreciated their gluten free bread but did not appreciate that the Aperol spritz you can get anywhere else for €4 is €12 here with €5 water. Our bill with only the above mentioned was €72. Papa Francesco is not worth it even a little. Avoid the food at all costs! read more

The pizza was incredibly disappointing. It wasn't like anything that I've eaten before, and not in the good way. The meat inside of the ravioli looked like it was raw. Out of all three types of Ravioli, the Pumpkin one was the best. THE PUMPKIN! The Caprese had incredible hard tomatoes. On top of this, we were charged for three bottles of Pellegrino, when we only received two. This because of us asking for a second one, and the order was put in but never brought to our table.
