Most of these open to a central hall/hallway with lots of seating. Each of these have their own yelp page so there's no point reviewing them here but it's a great collection. The building has a couple large private parking lots. Today it's raining out and in the 30/40s. I had to be out of my house for a few hours with my dog. It turns out while there are a lot of businesses in Charlottesville that have outdoor patios that are dog friendly, very few let you bring them inside. Main Street Market is the one exception I could find. Dogs are allowed in their seating area since all food prep is done in the shops. Our pup has enjoyed all of the attention he's received from passersby and I've enjoyed not having to be outside for four hours. The one downside is that there doesn't seem to be a public WiFi option. Several of the businesses have WiFi but it's all password protected.

I came here mainly drawn to their shoe store - I was drawn by the sale sign…read more Upon entering, I realized they're dedicated to comfortable shoes, many made with sustainable or recycled materials. I bought a pair of Simple brand shoes, made form bamboo and silk, among other things. To be honest, many of the styles were a little too granola for me, but not to the point that I couldn't find something comfortable and cute for me to wear. What I liked, I really liked. Even my boyfriend found a pair of casual sneakers (Tevas) that he liked, and I got a pair of white Campers on sale. It's connected in the middle to a clothing store that has a lot of eco-cotton-modal fabric. It can be chic looking if worn right, but it's damn comfortable regardless. If I was preggers, I'd definitely hit this store up, but even in my non-pregnant state I could appreciate many items. Flowy cotton summer dresses that breathe sound really good about now, anyway.

One lady was at the counter doing the books when I walked in, barely lifted her head to speak, and after I said hello she forced out a "hi". Hopefully, it was not a case of prejudging or assumption causing this lack of enthusiasm. Actually, if were just a mere lack of enthusiasm I would be ok with that. Everyone is not particularly excited to go to work EVERY day. However, it seemed that she did not care to help me as well. I am new to the area so, I purchased despite my discomfort in the store. I will find my See Kai Run Shoes on Zappos.com moving forward. They do have VERY comfortable shoes for women as well. But, oh well. They have my favorite brand of children's shoes but, I will never purchase from them again.

Tuel Jewelers in downtown Charlottesville was established in 1945 as a watch repair shop. However,…read moretoday it's a thriving full service store. During their early days Tuel's took in mostly Railroad watch repair and certification. As the years passed they expanded into a full-service jewelry operation offering a variety of watches, jewelry, and silver repair. Along with retail sales they offered machine engraving, bead restringing, and battery replacement. It was battery replacement that brought me in as they continue this. Service was friendly and they replaced the battery in minutes. They even polished the watch up. Today, Tuel Jewelers continues to offer a full-service family friendly jewelry business carrying fine jewelry in diamonds, pearls, platinum, gold, and silver; rings, pendants, and bracelets; Its hard to find a store that offers both Jefferson, Virginia, and Mint Julep cups. Bride and groom gifts can also be found. Although on the pricy side these days with cheaper products, mall stores, mail order and big boxes it's the top notch service and quality Tuel Jewelers delivers on.

I won't shop for suits anywhere else as long as I'm in Charlottesville, and here's why:…read more I went in to get a suit for some upcoming job interviews. Mike sized me up and was immediately on the phone to order my suit from his supplier, with expedited shipping at no extra charge. The price was a bit more than I'd pay at Men's Warehouse, but not a whole lot more, and the garments are of noticeably higher quality, and each suit comes with lifetime free alterations. He called me the minute it came in, and I went down to try it on. It fit great, and looked great, but I immediately noticed it was a charcoal grey, rather than the lighter grey I wanted, and which I heard Mike order on the phone. In short, I knew it was the supplier's mistake, not the Shop's. But Mike didn't pass the buck, didn't explain it away. He took accountability for his supplier's mistake, and had the charcoal suit altered for me to use in my interview, and ordered the correct grey one for me when I get back. I was expecting to give back the charcoal one, but when I returned to try on the altered suit, he insisted I keep both for the trouble. I was blown away. Mike's words were "I do business the right way, the way it used to be done". Indeed. I can't recommend this place highly enough.
