Super cute pit stop along the pedestrian mall in downtown Charlottesville. Our motley crew rolled into town for a wedding without wedding cards for the bride and groom (I imagine we're not the only ones who do this for almost every wedding we attend -ya know, arrive in said wedding town, scramble to find funny and artistic card that shows we care and shove cash into it). Luckily, Rock Paper Scissors saved the day. All three of us were able to find a card that showed off our personalities all while supporting a fun local business. There were hundreds upon hundreds of clever and artsy cards to choose from on the wall (not hundreds specifically about weddings but still...a lot). After selecting the cards from the huge wall of offerings, we moseyed around to enjoy their selection of printed papers, stationary, clearance items, calendars and more. You'll find a fun collection of Virginia specific items in here as well. read more

Saleswomen was helpful and looked in the back for some C'Ville postcards. I especially the amount of products made in the USA. I randomly walked into this store and absolutely loved it! There are so many interesting/fun trinkets, greeting cards, and stationery that you can buy, and the staff were all friendly. I fell in love with one of the flat note cards sets. If you see something you like, although they do not have an online store yet, you can describe it and they will work out purchasing/shipping it to you! They answered my emails promptly. I LOVE RPS. Great shop for gifts for everyone. They have an entire wall of greeting cards and sections of themed gifts throughout the store, making shopping for birthdays and events a one-stop shop. RPS is the kind of store I look for when visiting any new city; it has the perfect blend of local work and work curated from various small brands. I really love this store and could spend a whole lot of time in here. I love paper, I love writing, I love pens, so it is perfect for me. I've bought some cards and a brush pen here before, and the service was helpful and quick. There aren't too many people around the store to bug you much either, and the store usually isn't overcrowded, so it really is a pleasant shopping experience. You can find great, unique cards and stationery here, and I know they do fantastic invitations as well. I believe they have calligraphy workshops as well, though I haven't attended them (but might have to in the future!) Boutique stationary and gift shop on the downtown mall. It carries a fair amount of letterpress styled cards which range from sentimental to tongue in cheek. This is a great place to find a hilarious card for that friend with a wry sense of humor or simply for invitations to events. In addition to the cards RPS also carries gift wrap, stationary, light quirky desk supplies, moleskin notebooks, and miscellaneous decorative items such as Cardboard Safari animals. The displays are sparsely placed throughout the store which allows for comfortable browsing. It would be nice if they expanded the card selection a bit further, but the current collection is lovely. The store itself is mid-sized with a homey atmosphere which makes the place feel inviting. However, the times I've been in here I've had lackluster interactions with the sales associates. Rarely do I see them come out from behind the counter or greet people walking into the store. The only time I've really spoken to them is during payment. As a result, this tends to be a brief stint and not a destination for my friends and I. read more

My fiance and I went to Rock Paper Scissors to order invitations and custom stationery for our wedding. We met with Heather and she spent a lot of time discussing our options with us, showing us samples, explaining how we could achieve the look we were going for within our budget, and working out a timeline that would keep us on schedule (we started the invitation planning process much later than we should have). Unfortunately, we ultimately decided that we couldn't go through with our order, but we're so grateful for the time and personal consideration they put into helping us. We'll definitely be ordering some custom stationery from RPS as soon as we're able to. read more

I have a paper obsession, so naturally, I thought I would love Rock Paper Scissors, which is the only store that solely carries paper products. I love the cards selection that is offered, and the other stationary/gift products that are cared. Their price points are the same as other big city paper stores at about $5-6 per card. They also have bins full of discounted cards that are usually varied in occasion and are around $2-3. I have purchased birthday, new home, graduation, new baby, and wedding cards there. The one qualm that I have is that the staff at Rock Paper Scissors is very unfriendly and cold. I have paid for items with other any words, and on another occasion when I was informed the discounted card was final sale, I tried to make conversation and said I've never returned a card that was met with a snippy look and no response. This store is unique, but there are other places in Charlottesville that offer similar cards and have much friendly staffs. read more

Going into planning my wedding I felt very adamant about all my wedding papers being cohesive from the save the date to the thank you cards. We will just say it was my bridezilla moment! My wedding planner Amanda Gray of Ashley Baber Weddings strongly recommended RPS for all my wedding papers and they absolutely delivered! I worked mainly with Heather and she was amazing. She was incredibly responsive and flexible throughout the entire process. She went WAY above and beyond to make me happy and every last detail was perfect. I should mention that I live in Atlanta and my wedding was in Blacksburg. Still, Heather worked amazingly efficiently with me to get me online proofs quickly and it was never a problem working with them from out of town. I would absolutely recommend RPS and I can't wait to create something beautiful with them again! read more

But the attitude and the business practices.... Be forewarned. Other than picking up a quick greeting card or a notepad, you can do better on price, talent, and service. Purchased five letter press cards for $6+tax each. When I got home, I pulled them out of the packaging and noticed that the envelopes had been bleached white from sun exposure on the edge. I used my own envelops for the cards since I did not want to send out sub-par envelopes with the nice cards. A week after my purchase, I stopped in at the store with the envelops, in the original packaging, and the receipt, and explained that the envelopes were discolored and that I hadn't noticed until at home. I asked for a refund on the envelops. I was told that the envelops cost 35cents each, and I would only be offered a total refund of 50cents. I was frustrated to pay so much for a single card and not even receive the courtesy of a full refund for each envelop, especially considering that I had the original envelops, packaging, and a dated receipt. The woman with whom I was talking was short and spoke in a patronizing tone. I would not recommend this store because of the poor customer service. It really says something about the ethics of the store if they're not willing to apologize and rectify a problem of a faulty product on their end. read more
