Benson Hill Cooperative Preschool

Update: We're still loving the teachers and community at Benson Hill Cooperative School with our 2…read moreyear old in Ms. Kellys class! My family started at BHCP with our 2 year old kiddo in 2019. She was our first kid so it was a relief to be in class with her learning from the teachers, other parents working in the classroom and the Bates Technical College parent educator. My daughter learned to be more independent and play with kids her age. We now attended BHCP for three years and love the play based learning. Ms. Kristie keeps the kids engaged and laughing during opening circle. She encourages them to improvise in songs and guess what's going to happen in the story. The kids take turns bringing a class pet home (stuffed animal) and telling the other kids about their adventures. Art is a sensory messy creative play experience. Kids are encouraged to explore materials and come up with their own ideas about how to use them. Ms. Kristie supports them as they create and explore. We have class field trips like going to the pumpkin patch; seeing plays at Carco theater and visits from the firefighters with their trucks. BHCP has a large outdoor play space with swings, sand and plays to climb. Parents work in the classroom once a week which I've come to love. I get to see how my kid interacts at school and learn from other parents and the teacher. There isn't a focus on letters or counting however BHCP and Bates Technical college just held a kindergarten readiness panel and apparently it's more important that kids go to the bathroom independently and know how to use scissors. My 4 year old child participated in the 5 day program this year. So in additional to 3 days in the 4 year old class she also spent 2 days a week in the class for 3 year olds, which I was doubtful about at first but see how she gets to be a leader in class. She'll help open snack packets or demonstrate how to use a tool. Also since it's a play based school she does more projects on her own those days or with the help of a parent volunteer. Such as threading beads or dictating poems for her grandparents. Parents can choose to either serve on the board or have a parent job like laundry or playdough making. It's another way to build friendships with other parents. There are a lot of "thank goodness, your kid does that too?!" The preschool is in a church but is not religious. There is a Noah's Art Mural on one wall that the church as asked not be removed. But Christmas and even St. Patrick's day isn't topic of books or art projects. We actually had Purple Day on 3/17. They have trial classes. Worth checking out.

Two times a week we go to school together and play and learn for two hours and thirty minutes each day. My family tends to be more introverts and this easy separation transitional time and experience really works for us. Ms. Kristie is super attentive and caring. She is so dedicated to this school and her students. I cannot ask for a better teacher, environment and wonderful group of parents!

I love this licensed home daycare! The owner Karen is beyond great with kids! We've had our…read moredaughter here since she was an infant (now almost 4) and our 6 month old son just started there as well. Karen is nurturing and loving with babies and she supports and encourages learning with the older kids while still letting them be kids. She schedules one on one time with each kid each day for sit down learning time. No sterile, cookie-cutter "center" here, it's a loving home setting with fun activities, daily walks to the grade school (my preschooler loves playing on the playground at the big kid's school), a great backyard and location. I also like that it's located on quiet cul-de-sac where the older kids can ride bikes and scooters in nice weather. She provides transportation and after school care for Soos Creek Elementary, Emerald Park Elementary and Little Charger Preschool at Kentridge High so we plan to have our kids with Karen for a good long time. She's great!

She started caring for our son when he was only 3 months old and has helped him grow into a wonderful little boy! She cares so much about each of the kids and gives them an environment to learn and grow while teaching them so many things also. Karen has always worked with us on any challenges we have faced and always made us feel very comfortable with talking to her. We would recommend Karen hands down!!

I love the unique setup with the 1/2 walls and open floor plan. the children often play in a Montessori type style. My children, ages 10 months and 4 years, absolutely thrive at KinderCare. My 4 year old is constantly coming home with new things she has learned, thanks to the caring and attentive teachers. Even my little one, who was initially hesitant to drink his bottle, has been showered with love and attention by the infant staff - and he's now much more comfortable meeting new people. What truly warms my heart is how understanding and accommodating the staff is of our family's beliefs and dietary restrictions. The kitchen staff went above and beyond to ensure that our children are well-fed and cared for, and that means the world to us. I am so grateful for the care and love that KinderCare East Hill has provided for my children. It's a safe and nurturing environment, and I couldn't recommend it more to any parent looking for a wonderful place for their little ones to grow and learn.

Hello, I've been apart of the kindercare family for over 12…read moreyears. I absolutely love kindercare !! That being said I've experienced south kindercare (which we loved from their care to their staff was phenomenal). Normandy Park - also great staff. Auburn kindercare which was also great. They have such a great curriculum. Which played such a huge role in me returning my children to Kindercare's. However, I must express my disappointment. We have been attending just over a month and between billing and a few other mishaps I must say my experiences have changed. I want to start with the biggest issue I've had (BILLING) , and I don't like putting my business out in public but I feel this needs to be recognized- I get help with childcare , and I have my portion in which I gladly pay because as of now holding a job with one income is hard enough. Most places bill monthly and drop one bill - this location has dropped 3 bills on me insisting I pay more than what I'm required to pay -and then it reflects negatively on my children in what they are getting in their programs. I am very frustrated with this because people get help for many reasons and to allow it to project in the classes singling children out is so horrible (and reflects negatively on the staff and how they lack the children's well-being -mentally). No other kindercare has done this in the past and now I'm starting to feel insecure about the staff chosen at this location and how they address their billing. I have never felt discriminated due to my billing assistance until now. Since when is registration billed separately and it's required to be paid separately from my assistance? And since when is the summer program an additional $80 / kid ? And again not dropped with the main bill ?? I have 2 children in daycare - being on assistance $120 + $160 additional fees on top of my regular copay on a single income is extremely hard. This has truly stressed me out and I have to say I feel since I've started we have been targeted. Not to mention the forms that I was harassed to get my doctors to fill out when it say's recommended not required by doctor and I was told "this is not correct" because the way it was dispensed is different from the way it's dispensed for another child. It's very frustrating that this is happened and now I'm just incredibly uncomfortable at this location. Other than that everything is great. My kids are enjoying it as usual. But I myself am just disappointed.

We brought our son there at 1yr of age and it has been one of our best parenting decisions yet. The staff has been caring, communicative and extremely helpful. The nap training alone has been worth it! I could write more and more, but mostly importantly, our child is happy, constantly learning and hasn't lost an ounce of his bright personality. The first drop offs are the hardest, but the 50th start feeling pretty freeing. A feeling you only gain with trust your child's in good hands. Thank You Kent Campus. It's been a good year!

From the infant room all the way up to the elementary school age kids, my 4 kids ABSOLUTELY enjoy their time here every day. I have 1 kid in the infant room, toddler room and lastly elementary. I have used this center as well as the previous Learning Land center on 256th street for a grand total of 5 years and counting. All workers here are diverse, friendly, informative, safe, empathetic, supportive, nurturing, patient, experienced and licensed. I would HIGHLY recommend this childcare center to all parents needing childcare over anybody and any other center. -Raya S-
