Stopped in for lunch on a Friday. We were surprised to find an empty parking lot and wondered if…read morethe place was even open. We walked in to find a mostly empty restaurant (2 other tables seated). The atmosphere felt more like it was suited for a nice dinner date than a casual lunch but whatever - they're open for lunch. When I asked a friend about it later, he said he and his wife go there for dinner but had never been at lunch time. My buddy ordered the Grinder (essentially an Italian) and I ordered the Beef Sando (essentially their take on a French Dip). My buddy, who self-admittedly doesn't like focaccia, said the bread was awesome and sando in general really good. We both really enjoyed the fries, that were well seasoned in a savory and slightly sweet dusting. The abundance of fries was well appreciated as well. The beef sando was tasty and also a good portion. My only complaint was the thinly shaved beef was laid flat in layers instead of mounded on the sandwich (see pic). I hesitate to even say this, but it felt like I was eating Steak-umm. In general, the meal was good and filling. The service was good and value for price felt good.

We wanted to eat an early dinner and were trying to find a place that offered happy hour. It was not busy, full of empty tables, at 4:30pm and we quickly ordered before happy hour ended at 5pm. Food was $1 off though my cocktail did not get discounted $1 even though it said so on the website. We got albacore ceviche, cheddar bay fritters, beef carpaccio, 2 pork belly sliders, and zeppole. I tried the tea in the high desert cocktail which was fairly herbal with hints of tea, which was okay. Albacore ceviche - good portions with a good amount of chips. The albacore was fairly fresh and it was very flavorful and a bit tangy. This dish itself was fairly filling. Cheddar bay fritters - a bit dry and heavy for my liking Beef carpaccio - love the usage of chili oil which enhanced a typical dish into another level Pork belly sliders - delicious and great value at $3 each. It was so good I got an extra one for myself and even though it was 5:04pm, they still honored happy hour pricing! Zeppole - decent, also a bit dry, but the sweet strawberry sauce somewhat compensated for it. I love that the food came out quickly and service was speedy. This was what we needed while we jam packed our itinerary to try to see as many places as possible.

The atmosphere is awesome, service stellar, food delicious and amazing margaritas. I had the seafood chili rellano, (see pic) and the tamarind mezcalito. All of it was amazing. Will 100% be back!

Couldn't taste the tequila. Cucumber too mild. Guacamole appetizer used unripe and flavorless avocados and was too salty. Pollo con crema poblano had some very chewy chicken strips, others were perfectly done, but was too salty. Tacos gobernador was too salty. Rice was flavorless and too salty. Refried beans were runny and too salty. Both entrees were just warm, not hot. Someone in the kitchen does not know how to use spices and overcompensated with salt. On everything. Which is a shame bc the spices were there except for the cook who doesn't know what she is doing with salt. Salt is what you use to compensate for your lack of understanding how to use other spices and herbs. Which is a shame bc the recipes already had other spices and herbs, and did not need the overabundance of salt. The waiter didn't give us plates with our appetizer and gave us our check without asking if we wanted desert. We had to ask for water refills. The prices were high enough to expect well prepared food and excellent service. They are close but the Chingona didn't deliver. Which is a shame bc the recipes themselves seemed quite good. Ultimately, it falls on management to correct these failings. Ladies, you are so close!

Always on the lookout for great N/A I ordered the house-made ginger beer. SO GOOD! Anyway, appetizers - We had: Patatas Bravas - yummy fingerling potatos Mushroom Tartine - this is PHENOMENAL, their amazing sourdough bread topped with mushrooms, goat cheese and herbs. Now mind you, it comes with 3 servings, and with four of us, well it was hard to split up. I wish we wouldve asked if they could do 4 pieces for incremental charge. I loved it so much if I come back this might even be my entree. Roasted Eggplant - omg, with spiced yogurt and pomegranate seeds, what an amazing taste combination! Braised Cabbage, in a curry broth, this was inhaled as well. While the others ordered the various pizzas, I had the Flame and Field Steak Salad, 6oz sirloin on radicchio salad with an amazing blue cheese dressing and lots of other stuff. My steak was PERFECTLY cooked to med rare and seasoned. And i'll mention, they dont put any salt/pepper on the table here, and they dont need to :) Service was on the ball, kind respectful and informative. The ambiance is very, well, TERRA. Lol. Look up on the wall, terracotta pots, lol. For excellent gourmet food, much of it vegan and glutenfree, prices were super reasonable. I'll come back here pronto next time I'm in town.

I took it back and told the bartender what I had ordered. She quickly prepared the correct drink. It was good. Not long after that the wind came up. We were all getting cold and agreed that we were not enjoying the experience. We left. Strike Two! The third time we came prepared for the cold and found a table that we thought was protected from the wind. We ordered drinks and food, from the food trucks, and settled in for a pleasant evening with friends. Soon the wind started blowing dust and dirt around us. We tossed nearly half of the food in the trash because it was too dirty to eat. Strike Three! Sorry Food Truck People, what we were able to eat was good; but, we will not be returning to Blacksmith Public House.
